Oh come on! Why is it that so many people want to see the damn thing dead? If they want to call it a legacy device, then so be it, as it stands right now the Vita has the potential to become the Sega Dreamcast of portable devices. That means we can expect another decade of support from localizers, indies, and eventually hobbyist!

gangsta_red3255d ago (Edited 3255d ago )

"Vita has the potential to become the Sega Dreamcast of portable devices."

That's a good thing?

I mean I know the Vita has remote play but I would think as powerful as handheld this device is you want Sony and other big name devs to really give you the games to take advantage of the Vita.

Nonscpo3255d ago

"I mean I know the Vita has remote play but I would think as powerful as handheld this device is you want Sony and other big name devs to really give you the games to take advantage of the Vita"...That's the problem this system has suffered from since day one! It's that expectation for a constant stream of AAA titles. The Vita already has a great catalog of games, instead of waiting for the next copy and paste AAA franchise, people should have tried out the new franchises and genres that came to the system. The Vita has been a fantastic system to me, and has given me a chance to re-explore old and new genres.

XBLSkull3255d ago

"Did Sony just kill the PS Vita?"

Truth is the PS Vita was never really alive. Portables really just don't have much of a place anymore.

Mustang300C20123255d ago

The funny thing is the Vita was dead on arrival so not sure what it matters that Sony is saying today it never took off.

Spotie3255d ago

Odd. Cuz my Vita has worked since day 1, and still works even now.

It's also odd for people to say it's never had any support, given the number of games it had in that first year.

And given the high number of games on it even now, I find it also odd that people say it's got no games.

gangsta_red3254d ago

"It's also odd for people to say it's never had any support, given the number of games it had in that first year."

Odd how every year after the first the support seem to dwindle more and more and more until what we have here today. Odd how you don't seem to notice this.

"And given the high number of games on it even now, I find it also odd that people say it's got no games.'

No games that a majority of people want to play. You do realize what people mean when they are saying this right Spotie? Or are you going to be extremely literal every time an argument against Sony is brought up?

Nobody "wants to see the damn thing dead", I personally thought the Vita was an amazing piece of hardware and was going to pick one up, then I realized it only came with a 1GB memory card and the ones with decent memory were sold separately for insane prices, so I figured I'd wait until Sony realized that and cut the price down to a reasonable offer, unfortunately they never did, on top of that it was completely abandoned by Western developers after a year and it became a niche handheld console for jrpg's, indie games and some home console ports, Sony never took enough risks with it like paying Rockstar to developer a GTA game for it which would've been a system seller and made the Vita an instant hit, after Sony stopped taking the Vita seriously so did the public, it's a shame really and I honestly mean that.

DarkZane3255d ago

I just hope that if they ever make a successor to the vita, that they ditch the overpriced proprietary memory cards this time and go for SD/miniSD/microSD.

90$ for a 32GB (at launch, now that's what 64GB cost) was way too expensive especially when you could get SD cards to less than 1/3 of that price. The vita card also offered nothing over the SD cards. Same speed, same size and the vita filesystem could have been on a SD card. The only thing that was different was the actual physical shape, but this probably take 5 minutes for someone to come up with a USB reader for them.

DragoonsScaleLegends3255d ago

Honestly the memory card prices are the reason I was waiting to get one but I just said forget it after a year or two of overpriced shit. Now there just isn't a reason to get a Vita and the prices are still insane on the memory cards too lol. I've played some games on the Vita and the performance for most of these ports is horrible like Minecraft and COD. There's just no reason to upgrade from my PSP.

OldDude3255d ago

The PSP is my favorite handheld period. Vita can't compare.

magiciandude3255d ago (Edited 3255d ago )

Let's keep it real here, the Vita was entirely on life support from indies and niche developers for the past two years. If Sony is virtually no longer supporting the system then it's good as dead. Can't argue with fact because it is what it is. This doesn't make Sony look any better. That's for sure.

Kribwalker3255d ago

Exactly. The problem with a lot of the indie games on the vita are that u can purchase them on your mobile device for dirt cheap without needing an extra $200 device. Without the triple a games there's nothing differentiating it

OB1Biker3255d ago (Edited 3255d ago )

I agree
lol people have been saying 'the Vita is dead' at any opportunity for how long now???

Give it a rest and let us (Vita users) enjoy it

Protagonist3255d ago

They can´t give it a rest, As soon they see a headline this, they flock...LOL

Concertoine3255d ago

Its picked up steam in Japan but in all the other territories retail releases are practically done.

Azzanation3255d ago

DO you really want Sony to waste there resources and focus on the Vita instead of the PS4? I am sorry Sony are not Nintendo, they cant manage both. Sony needs all there focus on there best product *PS4* not wasting half there development teams making games for those who want to play PS3 games in there hands.

BenRage33255d ago (Edited 3255d ago )

@Nonspco

I really appreciate your post + bubble. It's puzzling to me too. Ever since I bought the Vita I have been playing it daily! Terraria, Muramasa, Dead Nation, Borderlands 2, Rayman Legends (best version side by side with the Wii U), Dragon's Crown, the telltale games (gives us a chance to re platinum Walking Dead and Wolf Among Us, the PS1 library and it goes on and on.

It reminds me of the Wii U in the sense that there are several great titles that just didn't sell. I think the perception of the Vita is what hurt it the most. But for those of us lucky enough to hold it in our hands--there's so much to appreciate. It's a great system. I wish Sony and others (especially western RPG makers) would support it more.

miyamoto3255d ago

You should know better not to react to these stupid flame bait articles leading to empty debates based on speculations and sensationalism. Misinterpreting words.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song
J Stars Victory Vs Plus
Gravity Rush 2
Dragon Quest Heroes 2
Resident Evil Revelation 2
Mighty No.9
Lego Jurassic World
Ray Gigant

These games say that the PS Vita is pretty much alive

killerluffy1233255d ago

Sigh such pathetic , still won't admits that its dead , what do you want ? A real coffin made by Sony for Vita ?

Kal-V33254d ago

Here's a question? Why do you care if it's dead or not? You obviously don't like the system. Why even bother coming to these articles and bashing it for no reason.

People like the system. It's a great system with great games. You not liking them doesn't mean the system or games are bad. It just means you don't like it and you don't speak for everyone.

I think the articles are getting it wrong, it isn't that the Vita is dead but more that it being legacy hints towards that Sony will no longer be producing handhelds in future.

Should pull this article and write that instead as it would lead to a much more interesting discussion... IMO

mrbojingles3255d ago

That is exactly what the article says lol. It asks how "legacy" should be interpreted?

Also, how is "no longer producing" it not, like dead? I mean the DC got games for years from the homebrew and indie community for years, still does. I'd say not shipping anymore units is as close to dead as you can get.

Masterchief_thegoat3255d ago

Sony gave the vita a nasty bus driver uppercut lol

_LarZen_3255d ago

It's been on life support for ages now. Just let it die with some dignity.

Masterchief_thegoat3255d ago

Facts! we didnt get more first party from them & more western rpg games. Im using vita for music & Internet that it..

GrubsterBeater3255d ago

I use mine everyday. When I get out of work (around midnight), I turn my Vita off standby, and joyously consider whether or not to explore and grind out on Suikoden II, casually finish some missions in Front Mission 3, or delve back into Wild Arms. That's just a tenth of my PSOne games. Maybe I'll relive my childhood awesomeness by jumping into some Grim Fandango while I relax on the couch. What I'm trying to say here is that you should try playing some good games instead of using it only for internet and music. I love my Vita, even though right now there isn't much support.

scark923255d ago

I hope it they continue to support it!

Original Final Fantasy 7 - Is it Worth Playing in 2024?

Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?

ravens5215d ago

Got to Zacks part in 7 Rebirth. Said f it. Finishing my game in 7 og. Just got to part 2 yesterday. I also got Crisis Core... So it'll be a while before I'm back to Rebirth. I just keep thinking about it too smh, want to get back to playing it. Not till I know Zacks story though. I beat 7 og sooooooo long ago, it's crazy going through it again and remembering things.

MrNinosan15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

Got to Zacks part in Rebirth?
You mean you started the game and turned it off?
The game starts with Zack...

ravens5215d ago

... Really 🤓 lol. His second part, I've played for 80hrs lmao. <---- PS5 Run time, probably not all game time. You guys know how it goes.

VIK212115d ago (Edited 15d ago )

Did you not ever play the OG FF7? After you recruit Vincent, later in the game, disc 3, return to that basement and look at the pod, there's a whole Zack story that'll trigger as a memory.... it's well hidden in the game and a lot of things regarding Zack are cleared up. FF7 Crisis Core is basically an extend feature of that hidden flashback... It took me years to discover it back then lol

MrNinosan15d ago

@ravens52
80 hours in Rebirth by doing everything, and you should've reached Zacks story about 5 times 🤣

ravens5214d ago

Ye I kno that's y I said not all gameplay time. But also I am very anal when it comes to exploring.

ravens5214d ago

Not to mention fighting Titan at his full strength. Hours spent trying still haven't succeeded. Found all 3 ruins but I'ma masochist when it comes to games.

Barlos15d ago

Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.

Barlos15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

It always takes me back to Christmas 1997, I got it as a gift and I was blown away when I played it. I couldn't believe games could look that good. The combination of pre rendered backgrounds and FMV really made it stand out. It definitely still has a certain charm that modern games can't replicate.

I can't imagine people will still be talking about Remake and Rebirth in 27 years.

Tapani15d ago

Fully agreed. To me the atmosphere, pacing, gameplay and music are all better than in the remake.

Rebel_Scum15d ago

Yes, play this, skip remake, start rebirth for new players.

I_am_Batman15d ago

Skip Remake? That's terrible advice.

leahcim15d ago

Remake is so amazing, pure FFVII Love, play it on PS5 please! aww the graphics the battles, the music... a dream come true.

Rebel_Scum15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

I disagree Batman
