The Witcher 3: PS4 vs XB1 video

Gamersyde: Many people have asked us for a comparison video of both the PS4 and Xbox One versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. I can't say I like these videos, so I'll do this one only showing the Griffon sequence. And since the lighting seems slightly different in both versions, this video really should only be used for framerate comparison, and even then... Like I told you, these videos aren't really my thing :)

I'm a PS4 gamer through and through, can see the difference between 1080p and 900p, but I can't see a difference here. I wear glasses when playing and seldom don a microscope. Both camps should be happy with this game.

They both look good. But the PS4 is less blurry and has a better frame rate. The Xbox One seems to have a problem with stuttering, maybe it can be fixed with a patch.

Yes it is defo a frame pacing issue causing the stuttering on both the x1 and Ps4 versions but to a lesser degree on the latter.
If u google nxgamer on youtube he has a frame rate analysis off the x1 version which clearly shows the witcher wild hunt is running at 35fps on average fully vsync.
But the frame timing fluctuates causing the feeling of a low frame rate and stuttering!

Hopefully cd projekt can further fix this on both consoles, nxgamer shows footage post and pre patch.
It seems the day one patch has downgraded anisotropic filtering during cutscenes to boost frame rate! but during normal game play the day 1 patches hardly changes performance.
It seems the game runs an unlocked frame rate, cd projekt should of locked it to 30fps to stop it fluctuating between 39fps to 28fps!

Either the game look stunning on x1 and would fool most into thinking its native 1080p.
I would highly recommend NXGamer on youtube, hes very honest, reliable and does great technical break downs of games.
His technical know how would defo suggest hes a developer of games or a graphics programmer.
Either way check him out i promise you will end subctibing! he is lightyears better then clickbaiters like gaming bolt and unlike then he knows allot about gaming! Sorry for typos, wrote this on my x1 with the pad lol.

Both consoles (medium level PCs rebranded as consoles) brought down the quality for the PC. The Witcher 2 and 3 are both 20GB in size. So The Witcher 3 with all its open worldness and next gen assets is as big as the witcher 2. GTA 4 was 16 GB, GTA 5 is 60GB.

Yeah I saw this few days ago. Damn shame. They should have made it as best as they could on PC, and then scaled it down to the consoles. I'm not saying the console versions look bad, far from it. But the PC version could have looked a lot closer to what we saw in the reveal trailer had they not thrown in the towel, and his statement confirms that. It shouldn't matter if it's 1% of PC gamers that can run that (which is a bs figure IMO, you can't track that) or not. Each platform should be pushed to it's fullest. Plus a lot of PC gamers upgrade after a few years, and one of my favorite things to do after an upgrade is go back and play stuff I couldn't max out, but on full settings. I'm actually pretty disappointed with CDPR for going that route with this, seems like they along with a lot of other devs over the years, forgot who put them on that pedestal to begin with.

Course this will probably get mad disagrees and marked as trolling or something, but it's really no different than when PS4 gamers yell PARITY with XB1 version of games.

It depends on what are you watching the comparison video.

If you are looking on a tablet, smart phone or a 720p laptop monitor, for sure they will look the same.

But seeing the comparison video on a proper display, the difference will pop out immediately (which one is more crispier and with less jaggies).

80% of the people commenting here are looking on a tablet or a phone. So I don't know how much relevant are their comments.

I agree gfk, On my PC at 1080p the PS4 looks sharper. I would point out the package at the 15-16 sec mark.

That being said the X1 version still looks good. For me I'm going with the PS4 version (mainly due to trophies), even though my PC can handle it (FX8350 and EVGA 970 SSC) on at the very least very high settings. I will be picking it up on pc at a later date most likely when the price drops.

Witcher is further proof the power of the PS4 has been overestimated.

Last gen differences were more acute, the PS3 was behind the 36O we could see it.

The thing that people like you seem to not understand is that a 50% power advantage (even though I don't think it is actually %50, more like 40%) doesn't mean the PS4 version is going to be '50%' better. As resolutions get higher a %50 increase in performance is going to make less and less of a gap. For instance - 900p to 1080p is around a %40 pixel increase, yet the difference in IQ isn't going to be as large as 720p to 900p. As things get further away from zero, they require larger amount of power for smaller and smaller returns.

But yeah...keep fighting the good fight! Maybe one day you'll actually be happy with your X1 and won't feel the need to spew your denial-ridden BS in every article that proves the PS4 version of a game to be superior.

I watched the full thing several times, along with other FPS tests for the X1...the lowest the X1 EVER dipped was 28...it was for a split second and it happened once. I think why most people are convincing themselves they ONLY see FPS issues on the right sight is because of the split down the middle...if you cover the left (or right) side, you don't see any issues.

@fauxfire I ignored nothing. In fact I'm basing my observations on several sources not just one.... PS4 has clearly and noticeably had more FPS issues in all these observations....although even then it's very rare. People are making a big deal out of nothing here. Like usual.

It is impossible for 900p to "look identical" to 1080p, there is a difference. You are lying about and downplaying the difference.

Most early impressions including Gamersyde and Nxgamer are saying the X1 is noticeably lower res and with frame pacing issues. At launch the PS4 will have both higher res and framerate if nxgamer and gamersyde are right.

Reviewers mentioned the pre-patched PS4 version having framerate issues, but the PS4 version was the only one given to them. They did not have the Xbox version to make a comparison.

You are deliberately spreading FUD about the PS4 version's framerate. The PS4 version's framerate is above Xbox according to early impressions, not below.

It is sad that you are deliberately lying about and downplaying PS4's stronger hardware and better multiplatform game performance.

Here's a thought, how about we wait till the day one patch for both versions of the game and then compare them. Even then I am under no dilusion that the edge won't go to the PS4, but it seems premature cough cough immature to compare the two until then especially since the day one patch includes dynamic 1080p for the X1 and probably a bit more since the patch is actually larger on the Xbox version.

That's basically what I said, I am not trying to imply in anyway that the X1 will get some special upgrade because the patch for the X1 is larger. But to assume that the patches are the same for both platforms to bring them up to CDPR standards for the release is a bit much. Up to this point it is more than evident that devs have had to go the extra mile to get some kinda parity and to try and make up for the lack of resolution, so I think it's pretty safe to say that in addition to the dynamic scaling being added to the X1 version that there maybe some tweaks in there that aren't needed on both platforms since the PS4 doesn't suffer from the same hardware limitations.

As of patch 1.01 PS4 has higher resolution and framerate according to Gamersyde and others with hands on impressions. X1 suffers from frame pacing and runs at 900p most of the time according to NXGamer.

It is dynamic to 1080p...

It is like the hatchback that says it can go 200 MPH... It can drive that fast, but people rarely take it to that speed because they know that they risking their lives at that speed. Hyper Cars on the other hand have no problem getting to 200 MPH and beyond.

I love my X1. But, currently, it does 900p most of the time in my opinion and I am fine with that. The difference between 900p and 1080p is negligible in my opinion. I have 20/20 vision and at 12 feet away on a 65" screen I don't see any significant difference between games on the PS4 and X1. If you took 90% of the people that say 1080p vs 900p matters, put them in front of a new game at 900p on a 65" TV at 12 feet then the same game in the next room at 1080p on a 65" TV at 12 feet they probably wouldn't know which one was which.

Really not a lot in it. PS4 looks sharper at longer draw distance. Close to middle distance, no discernible changes. No one will be unhappy with either version.

Unless one system has a consistent difference in the fps it won't matter that much. If you have a few dips to 28 fps on one system it won't matter as much compared to overall better graphics.

It is generally only possible to notice the difference when sitting 1-2 foot away from a 23-27" monitor or 2-4 feet away from a 40-60" TV, plus someone would need a side by side comparison to be certain that they see the difference.

People claiming they notice a significant difference are generally sitting MUCH closer to their monitors than the same proportionate distance from their TVs.

For a similar perspective to what people see on TVs from their couches, people need to view from 2-3 times the distance from their monitor and then compare.

All that I think really matters are issues with significant frame-rate drops, judder, and screen tearing. As far as I'm concerned, that PS4 has slightly less of those issues is the ONLY advantage to the PS4... I think XO is better in most every other way, and I'm still hopeful the performance issues won't be a problem as DX12 becomes the standard.

Unless people pull up chairs to their 40-60" TVs, the difference in detail between 900P and 1080P isn't really noticeable (at 8+ feet). I think everyone harping about the resolution difference needs to be sitting 2-4 feet from their TVs when they play or quit being hypocrites by pretending the difference is that important while they're sitting too far away when they play to actually notice the difference they claim is important.

Personally, I think the XO exclusives this holiday almost makes PS4 look like an Android console... in the sense that I could care less about the games being released for it, since I have zero interest in most Asian games, especially ones that don't show any impressive rendering technology (most upcoming PS4 exclusives this holiday look as if they're last-gen in higher resolution, and I'm not seeing anything that I'd want to play that appeals to my western tastes).

I don't regret not having a PS4, and that's especially true this holiday. Games such as Witcher 3 look good enough on XO now, though of course I'd love it if the rumors of optimizing Witcher 3 for DX12 in the future are true.

Now you have websites in business purely to count frame rates because im sure we all have 2 tvs and play xbox one and ps4 side by side. I guarantee you these articles will be less frequent when the xbox one gets its update and runs games how it was intended.

LOW VS ULTRA.

When the Ultra is selected over high, there's basically no difference.

I think the update/Patch that releases on the 19th to enable people to play will also unlock true ultra settings. Something doesn't seem right.

He shows Pre-Patch & Post-Patch video. IDK if there is another patch? But, some peeps are saying there is another patch for the XB1 that will not release until the 19th?

His post-patch analysis shows an average frame-rate on the XB1 around 33-34fps. He also has a frame-pacing indicator that shows a slight post-patch frame-pacing issue, which is due to the "unlocked" frame-rate. In regards to screen-tearing, he says there is zero screen-tearing.

In regards to overall graphics he said, "The game looks absolutely superb on the XB1".
