Did Ubisoft Switch Marketing Deal Again From Xbox One to PS4 with Assassin's Creed Syndicate?

Promotional marketing deals with this or that side have become rather prevalent in the past few years, especially with the new generation, in which the competition between PS4 and Xbox One has become fiercer, with both Sony and Microsoft scrambling to associate this or that prominent AAA third party game with their main consoles.

At times that kind of deal results in console bundles, in other cases you see exclusive platform-specific content, and most of the time it ends up having the marketing of a game plastered with blue or green.

This time around it seems that Ubisoft switched camp again, moving to the PlayStation one with Assassin's Creed Syndicate.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Sony owns half the market with the PS4.

And the other half is WiiU and Xone combined.

Transistor3267d ago (Edited 3267d ago )

This trend will continue.

It's hard to outbid consumers money and PS4 has 2x as many.

Rookie_Monster3267d ago (Edited 3267d ago )

Ms probably have too many of their own exclusives to market in the 4th quarter like Halo 5, Forza 6, Tomb Raider, Gears Ultimate Edition as well as 3 of the best known franchises in Madden, COD, and probably Fallout 4 and some sacrifice of other marketing deal were needed. Probably 1/2 their marketing budget will be used on Halo 5 as opposed to Sony having extra marketing funds and use it on third party games due to delays of Uncharted 4 and Ratchet and such. SONY needed a FPS and Action/Adventure game to compete with Halo and Tomb Raider this Holiday so they probably put up a bit more money to secure deals for those 2 games as they don't have any exclusives of there own this year to compete on the exclusive front.

Don't kid yourself with "outbid consumers money" part as publishers will happily market their games to the highest bidder and MS can easily choose to Market every game they want with the amount of money they got but their effort this year is on their Fall exclusives and the cash cow known as Halo.

Simple logic. In the end all third party games will be on both platforms regardless od which logo appears at the end of the commercial but it is the AAA exclusives that will be important during the all important holiday season and MS is winning that battle. FACT

@Rookie

Reasons I didnt get Xbox One... Sick of Halo and Forza, over and over and over and over, its like COD and Madden.

Hopefully Gears Ultimate Edition works out better than MCC and Ill "probably" get to play Tomb Raider on PC.

2015 or 16. Ill get it without spending $350 on Xone for just that reason. Played Gears and wouldnt be surprised if the new one comes to PC as well, I hope it stays exclusive.

Transistor3267d ago

" 3 of the best known franchises in Madden, COD, and probably Fallout 4"

Madden, yes.

I wouldn't be so sure about the other 2.

Rookie_Monster3267d ago

Khajiit86

Did you missed the memo? Tomb Raider on PC won't be release in 2015 as the exclusive is only for xbox this a fall and the fate of the PC version is still unknown.

The denial is strong here. I too get most of games on PC like Batman Arkham Knight and MGSV but since Tomb Raider is only on Xbox this year, I'll get it on XB1 instead of waiting and hoping it will come.

PlayableGamez3267d ago (Edited 3267d ago )

@Khajiit86
Halo is not a yearly franchise like COD and Madden. The last major Halo to release (not including MCC since it's just a compilation of old Halo games brought to the Xbox One) was Halo 4 and that was back in 2012. It's 2015 and were getting Halo 5.

As for Forza and Forza Horizon they are two different games. And they come out every two years. And even so, Forza as a franchise just barely started being a yearly franchise. And we don't even know if their is going to be a Forza Horizon 3 or what not.

Thats why games sells the most on PC....

Oh Wait!

Cuzzo633267d ago

I would reply but you only had 2 bubbles.

LuckyChamCham3267d ago

Come on...no need to bring pc into this geez -_-

JasonKCK3267d ago

PC tends to be left out of the discussion when console is involved, even though it does outnumber all the consoles.

Khajiit863267d ago (Edited 3267d ago )

How many of those can run Witcher 3?

Dont kid yourself, I have a 970 but to think every PC purchased is a gaming PC is silly. Anyone can join Steam, I did last year on a PC that couldnt run WOW on low.

curtis923267d ago

@Jason, yeah PCs outnumber consoles by a landslide. So that should say a LOT that games continue to sell more on consoles by a landslide.

BG115793267d ago (Edited 3267d ago )

Look at Ubisoft's last financial report. You will see that 32% of revenues for 2014/15 come from PS4 software sales. It's 12% for PC. PC did manage to equalize the PS4 on the last fourth quarter, but globally consoles bring more money to Ubi...

So Ubi is just following to money.

An inconvenient truth it seems :)

But Xbox outsold ps4 in the U.S. Last month! We all know that means Xbox has "officially" turned things around and they are gaining ground. At least that's what major publications are saying. And I always believe them!

uptownsoul3267d ago (Edited 3267d ago )

Yeah but the difference between Xbox One and PS4 for April 2015 NPD is like < 15k …PS4 makes that difference up in 1 week from the Japanese gap

kraenk123267d ago (Edited 3267d ago )

So it doesn't matter PS4 sold more than twice as much worldwide...I understand.

Sonyslave33267d ago (Edited 3267d ago )

Sony always had exclusive advertise rights for assassin creed going back 2 ps3 era.

The last Assassin it was showing PS4 logo -___-

MasterCornholio3267d ago

Didn't Ubisoft make a marketing deal with Microsoft for Unity?

I do remember them showing the game off first on XB1 however Black Flag was marketed for the PS4.

KarmaV123267d ago

Are you talking about Unity? Microsoft had a marketing deal for that. They showed it at E3 during the conference as well...

PS: Nice name

GreetingsfromCanada3267d ago

It's likely Sony offered pay at least somewhere around the Microsoft amount and the shear amount of systems sold did the rest.

OC_MurphysLaw3267d ago

honestly... I don't think I really care who foots the bill for advertising this game or that. Just make it a good game Ubisoft.

Captain_Wormy3267d ago (Edited 3267d ago )

I see no point in buying the advertisement rights since the game is still going to sell more on PS4 even if MS had the rights. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Underrated that's debatable.

chicken_in_the_corn149d ago

One of the most overrated imo. A big step backwards from Unity.

Relientk77148d ago

I loved Syndicate! I played this game mostly as Evie because of her stealth abilities and loved using a cane sword.

Is Assassin's Creed Syndicate worth playing in 2023?

GF365: "Is Assassin's Creed Syndicate worth playing in 2023? Many veteran fans consider this game the last “real” Assassin's Creed game. Did that opinion age well? How does Syndicate compare against the previous game, Unity?"

I would say more maybe when you burned through your backlog.

cbuc1125419d ago

I thought it was great back in the day. Evie was a master at stealth, while Jacob was the fighter. Good 💩!

glennhkboy418d ago

I didn't find them that different in terms of stealth vs power.

cbuc1125417d ago

Well they were. She could go full invisible and blend into the environment at the highest level. Jacob could shoot a gun mid punch while fighting. You needed to build out the skill tree.

Chocoburger418d ago (Edited 418d ago )

It was the last in the series I actually liked, before they went full-blown grindfest. This game had grindy features too, but at least it had some limits.

My biggest issue was that it didn't move the modern story forward which was a let down. Still a fun game, though.

robtion418d ago

Definitely, it is a great game with a really detailed setting.

Unfortunately, you can't play it on PS5 though as it has a major flickering glitch with the lighting/shadows which makes it unplayable.

robtion418d ago

Really? Great, thanks for letting me know. It must have been relatively recent because when I downloaded it to play again on PS5 sometime in the last 12 months it was still really bad.

Good news though, now I can give it another play through. Never did the Jack the Ripper quests previously so want to give them a try.

P_Bomb418d ago

Yeah the patch was most appreciated. That graphic breakup/flicker was awful.

MadLad418d ago

Still consider it the best since Brotherhood.

DarXyde418d ago

Brotherhood was the last one I liked, but in fairness, I checked out after Revelations (which I really struggled to maintain interest in long enough to finish it. I eventually did but I couldn't tell you a thing about it though because I really did it out of necessity to finish something I started).

By that time, fatigue really set in and I simply don't care about it anymore.

I just wish they'd patch Black Flag on consoles to enable 60 fps. Of all the earlier AC titles that was my favourite.

426d ago
Relientk77426d ago

That's really cool that Ubisoft is finally patching this even though its too late for me. I never thought they were going to patch it, so I beat AC Syndicate on PS4 end of last year. That's one game off my backlog.

anast426d ago

Sweet. This is one of my favorite ACs. I'll fire it up when I get the chance.

Pedrof426d ago

It's cool. It's just a bummer they didn't take the opportunity to also unlock the framerate.

chicken_in_the_corn426d ago

Awesome news. This is the main reason for pushing back my replay.
