With the rise of 4K, your PS4 and Xbox One are already obsolete

There are two things gamers keep talking about all the time: framerate and screen resolution. Apparently, if your game does not run at 60 FPS on the Xbox One and the PS4 today, your company deserves to burn in flames. And 4K gaming is all the rage... for PC owners.

How about 4K support on the Xbox One and the PS4?

the_dark_one3269d ago

ya right!!! like resolution is everything to a game. last time i checked the some of the best games are exclusives to consoles, from halo, gears, forza, uncharted, blooborne, last of us, mario, zelda, and so on..... what makes gaming great is the games and not just higher resolution, or are you telling me, people will enjoy the witcher 3 more on pc at 4k then someone playing on a xbox one at 900p?

Naga3269d ago (Edited 3269d ago )

You dare to question the wisdom of the great PC master race? Why, with their perfectly wind-swept locks of golden, shimmering hair, they will smite you like mighty Zeus from atop Mount Olympus. They gaze down upon us with pity from their thrones of technological superiority.

This author, I'm sure, is but a harbinger of our imminent demise. Alas, if only we could see past our own ignorance as console gamers to understand that frame-rate and resolution are the most important aspects of gaming... then, we might be set free. /s

FarEastOrient3269d ago

4K monitors and tvs are a small percent of sales. This is such a click bait article when the needle isn't expected to move for the next few years.

XBLSkull3269d ago

With almost every one of the best games available on consoles or exclusively on consoles, your 4k gaming rig is obsolete lol...

but seriously, the money needed to do 4k gaming is still just too high to justify the price tag. Are there any 4k monitors in the $200-300 range yet? Only a fool would pay more than that for a monitor... I spent like $450 on a benq monitor and I feel like an idiot, the thing sucks.

mikeslemonade3269d ago

Comparing a $2000 setup to a $300 console. Haha sure better yet go 360 degrees on your TV if you want..

Madock3269d ago (Edited 3269d ago )

double the resolution, double the pixels, double the clarity Magnify that with ultra textures and sadly yes...they are obsolete

It's a fact you can't ignore esp that the graphics is what's driving these console sales, not console special features
TVs are affordable now, I can't imagine these consoles surviving for 4 more years!

cynicismate3269d ago

I'm a PC gamer and I think 4k is pointless. I play on PC because no matter how much time passes, I never have to worry about backwards compatibility.

Naga, the peasants are obviously disgruntled with your derision of them. Meh, be deign to apologize and let them remonstrate and vociferate... Their benighted perniciousness will soon have the rivers run sanguine with their own.

It's double in two dimensions, so it's actually quadruple.

bouzebbal3269d ago

i'm still playing megadrive games today. i take s Streets of Rage in SD over 4K games anytime.

jv19913268d ago

Frame rate and resolution are not the most inportant its gameplay. Was fr and reso inportant with ps1/ps2? I dont think so its gameplay all the way

Death3268d ago

If a game is superior on the PS4 because it is native 1080p and not upscaled 1080p, wouldn't logic dictate a game at 4K is even better?

As for 4k monitors being such a small percentage of current sales, the same thing was said at the start of last gen when not many people owned an HDTV.

thekhurg3268d ago

The funny thing is, 4k hasn't risen. It's still not widely adopted in living rooms. Consoles have yet to fall behind.

styferion3268d ago

I've spent on average 7hrs/day on Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, graphic looks like it was ported straight from PS2, still the best game I've played this year.

saber000053268d ago

Meh. I'm mainly a PC gamer, but I really don't care too much what the resolution is, as long as it fits the game. For example.. If it's like a war game or GTA5 (Shots fired guys here we go) and I play it on an Xbox 360, yeah.. I think it's going to suck.. Because it's holding back the awesomeness. However, if I were to play games like bandjo kazooie, for Nintendo 64, I think it's fine because the game style / cartoony graphics, doesn't require to have top of the line graphics.

SilentNegotiator3268d ago

As if more than 0.5% of PC gamers are playing in 4K on a regular basis.

mabreu3268d ago

PC gamer: "hey, my PC setup can do 4k, 60fps, no loading...."

Console gamer: "yeah, but can it play (insert any exclusive console game here)?"

PC gamer: "...shut up about your exclusives! At least I have backwards compatibility!!!"

Wealthy gamer: "I have both so I'm a better gamer than both of you. blah blah blah...."

PC has more and better exclusives.

More definitely. That's 100% fact.

Better is opinion of course.

And wake up console owners. Hardware dictates what an engine can do, which dictates what game you can create.

Graphics are 100% linked to gameplay.

AngryTypingGuy3268d ago

Consoles dictate the trends in gaming. PC games didn't get the truly next gen graphics (for the most part) until the PS4 and Xbox One came along. Likewise, 4K won't truly catch on until consoles are heavily advertised to support it. Other factors will play a part to, such as the technology becoming more affordable, but my main point is that trends in gaming, in terms of graphics, follow the schedules of the console, not PC.

Fireseed3269d ago

Idk some people try and convince us that playing at 1080p on the PS4 is somehow more enjoyable than playing at 900p on the Xbox One, so using that same logic we would naturally assume 4k or even 2k would be even MORE enjoyable.

But oddly enough the question changes to make sure the answer always comes out to whatever you want it to be. Hmmmmmm

DarXyde3269d ago

You'd get the definitive version of multiplatform titles, but if exclusives on consoles are better, I'd hardly call that "obsolete". Purely subjective, but The Last of Us definitely isn't a PC game, that's for sure. The author doesn't seem to get what that word means. PS4 and XBOX One are still being produced and are current-generation consoles.

OB1Biker3269d ago

It s certainly better to have higher res but new gen consoles at a higher price wouldn't sell IMO it would kill console gaming as it would make more sense to go for a PC

badz1493269d ago

@Fireseed

1080p vs 900p on similarly priced consoles

AND

1080p vs 4k on a $400 console vs high end pc costing at least doubled.

your argument is very GOOD! /s

while we're at it, let's us all whine to Toyota on why their Camrys are not going as fast as the Ferrari, shall we?

OrangePowerz3268d ago

Sure higher resokution is always better, but neither of the consoles are designed to run games in 4k and they would have been a lot more expensive if they would have been designed.

4k isn't wide spread and it will still take several years until a decent amount of consumers have 4k hardware. On PC it's a small fraction of people and people with 4k TVs is even smaller. What's the point in making a device that runs games in 4k when only a tiny amoubt of your customers can actually use it while making the device a lot more expensive for everybody?

turdburgler10803268d ago

I'll give a shit about 4k when the infrastructure is there which its not. Hell most HD channels are displayed in 720p still Cause they can't handle 1080p signals for every channel. 4k is a waste of money right now. You can probably count the number of movies on your hand that are available in 4k. It's just a ploy to boost tv sales nothing more.

BeefCurtains3268d ago (Edited 3268d ago )

PS4 @1080 vs X1 @ 900 = 95% of N4G articles and the relentless slamming of X1 to date. And the X1 version being called "fuzzy" or "garbage"

PC gamers are gaming at 1440, 2k, 4k = suddenly resolution doesn't matter.

PS4 hit 55fps and X1 hit 50fps = pages of trash talk. PC games easily hit 120fps or the limit of the monitor, that's irrelevant.

Bragging rights are bragging rights whether it cost $400 or $2000.

When you put resolution and FPS in to perspective like that, suddenly the differences between X1 and PS4 become irrelevant. Enjoy your games and exclusives.

I dont think 4k will be common standard until like 2019 which by then new consoles should be released already.

_-EDMIX-_3269d ago

Not really, Steam statistics show that only 34% actually even use that resolution. There is this HUGE assumption that most PC gamer's just have these beast rigs and play in 1080p all the time....

Nope. As someone that games on PC, most times I'm in 1080p, other times I might lower the res to trade off quality if I feel its most important on the title I'm playing.

Like I always say, a super computer in Japan can be 100000% times stronger then the most elite gaming PC, does it make that gaming PC obsolete? Sure..in some regard, does it matter? What games are coming for this super computer? Better yet...what games are coming to PC gaming that even are 100% exclusive and take FULL advantage of high end GPU's and REQUIRE a high end GPU to play?

4K is nice and all, but a PS4 or XONE not having 4K is not a big deal, I assure you.......providing games to the one of the largest gaming communities is likely a better focus. At the end of the day, playing on PC also nets you very little exclusives that even dare to max out the most elite GPUs on the market.

I still plan to upgrade, but I'm still keep console gaming, sorry but GTAV in 4K isn't God Of War V, it isn't Halo 5 and it isn't Uncharted 4. 4K doesn't just go over exclusives lol, exclusive > 4K.

Str8Chaos743269d ago (Edited 3269d ago )

You guys act like every console exclusive is the best thing ever. So far this gen it's the multi-platform games that have been great. With the exception of Bloodborne (which is probably my favorite game so far this gen then Titanfall) the console exclusives have not really been that great in my opinion. And anyone that thinks 4k is not a big deal has A) never played a game at the resolution, or B) is an idiot. But on this site what the PC can do is irrelevant, but when the PS4 has higher resolution than the Xbox one it's a HUGE deal. I'll get disagrees from the fanboys but it is true. Sorry for the rant... Just wish people would enjoy games and not argue over all the BS.

remixx1163269d ago (Edited 3269d ago )

@st8chaos

Yes 4k I'm sure is just wonderful but real life is far more beautiful..... So with that as a fact should I just scrap my 4k monitor???? No.

Console usually edge it out where it counts and that is exclusive games, if you feel like bloodborne is the only big thing then cool cool, but persona 5, uncharted 4, halo 5, quantum break, ratchet and clank, legend of Zelda, starfox, gears 4, god of war 4, xenoblade, deep down, rime, dragon quest, SMTxfire emblem, horizon, scalebound........etc etc are all peeking over the horizon and then I'll here some new excuse from the glorious master race how our consoles don't matter as you bathe in your superior multiplats...

Listen dude I'm half blind anyway, so all that crap that you guys spit is nill to me. All I need is a damn good game and some cheddar popcorn, keep trying to justify your purchases fellas.......I'll be gaming.

_-EDMIX-_3269d ago

@Str8- "You guys act like every console exclusive is the best thing ever"

Who is "you guys"? Bud we all game, we are all gamers, I currently own a gaming PC and many consoles......

I'm not a handheld gamer, a cell phone gamer, PC gamer, console gamers etc.

I play all of them....I'm just a gamer. The reality is, they are games that many times never end up on PC.

Consoles don't have Company Of Heros or Warhammer....

PC is the place where I would prefer to play that, PC doesn't have most Sony exclusives or Nintendo exclusives and I would say most major MS exclusives...

Soooooo why would I just miss out on 3 major publisher's titles? Not saying they are the best ever, but at the end of the day, I'm a gamer and they are games....

Owning just one system will always limit you, regardless of system, you will always be limited.

"A) never played a game at the resolution, or B) is an idiot"....you mean MOST PC gamers? I've played a few games at 4K...its pretty sweet, but what I'm saying isn't disregarding 4k, its merely stating that the hardware needed for that based on the modification style on PC is ironically why you don't see major PC exclusives that max out high end GPUs. 4K is again nice, but its actually at the cost of most major developers ever making exclusive content for it.

Mind you, I've played 4K on Dirt 4 and BF4 on a friends PC, its indeed impressive! Thats not really the case lol, it really has nothing to do with how cool 4k is, merely that again, the irony of it is that not many have the same hardware set up, thus the adaption rate is low or worse unknown.....thus doesn't get exclusively supported.

4K does't put exclusive high end games on PC.....it merely games put on PC based on having a PS4 or XONE version.

EDMIX on PSN, Edmix_The_Shogun on Steam...no fanboy here, your getting disagrees based on the idea that "you guys" are just grouped up into one ideal. What I'm saying isn't based on only owning console or only owning PC etc, its merely my take on the industry and how the PC markets customizability actually is why you don't see exclusive content for high end.

I'm sorry but I rather the industry focus on set systems they can actually build from, that can't be done on PC like it can on console. We factually know how many PS4's and XONE exist, its not really known how many have those 4K set ups, even the steam numbers show its really, really low.

Mind you, I'm still planning on building a new rig later next year for Star Citizen and what ever PC titles release next fall. Again...I game on many systems and limiting my gaming isn't an option.

KeplerNoMore3269d ago

Actualy steam hardware says that 4k is present in 0.06% of the user base, the most common resolution is 1366x768.

LonDonE3269d ago

@str8Chaos
Compairing 2 consoles which crucialy cost about the same makes sense.
To then want to buy the one which consistently performs better and gives you more bang for your buck is understandable.

But only an idiot would then try to bring a gaming pc capable of 4k at 60fps costing thousands into the argument with consoles which cost a couple of hundred!!

I keep reading the same stupid ish above.
Get me a pc at the same price point of a x1/ps4 with similar features and which can run modern games at 4k 60fps LOOOL!! No way so its moot! even getting a pc with a blue ray/dvd player, a proper sound card, blue tooth, wifi, network adapter etc i am saying a pc with all the same things the consoles have, and remember the o.s lol anyhow u just cannot build a pc with comparable performance to the consoles for that price point!

I saw some garbage fake videos or articles but they always leave things out or cut corners, like skipping windows lol and leaving vsync off in game performance comparisons to boost the frame rate of the pc which results in constant tearing of frames, so they are not complete frames lol while the same game is not tearing on the consoles.

Bottom line is both consoles and pc are awesome! Both have pros and cons.
But please compairing 2 consoles which cost around the same is normal, but bringing a £1000 plus 4k 60fps pc into the argument IS STUPID!!!

jv19913268d ago

I dont think new consoles come in 2019. Ps4 is then just 5 years old. I hope ps5 will come around 2022

esemce3268d ago

I think you are correct, the GPU power needed for decent framerates at 4k is just not viable.

GTA 5 with a Titan X and getting around 40fps.

Crysis 3 with SLi 980 getting around 20fps.

someOnecalled3268d ago (Edited 3268d ago )

4k will be obtainable on one reasonable priced GPU card by next yr. Stacked memory is coming out this yr. Console fanboys(mainly PS fanboys) font really care about games or technology if it put PS in perspective

I find it funny when talking about tech people throw in price n games because they can't handle that technology is advancing and these consoles was dated since launch. PC has exclusive so big deal and I could build a rig a 100 more than ps4 to significantly outperform it.

So I guess its time to stick you fingers in your ears and talk about we don't have you few overrated exclusives that come out a year. What come out last on PS infamous? Bragging about exclusive but on 2 OK ones came out the whole year. Go ahead add other platform, when clear none of y'all fanboys gave credit before when compared to the godly ps4

All three console are a cheap and convenient way to play games and the games and infrastructure is what bring gamers to them. But somehow only one group ignore that and say its about power and gfx. But change their tune once PC gamers put them in their place.

But xbone and ps4 are console and the cost about the same. We don't care about gfx and power we paid way less its about the convenience n the games. Funny PS fanboys always bring this up. So why do y'all constantly bash xb and wiiU fans. Funny how PS fanboys change up

wegetsignalx3260d ago (Edited 3260d ago )

@someOnecalled

Consoles and PCs are in different markets. Some people are interested in the best performing console version and don't care about building a PC.

PS4 has many highly rated exclusives right now and upcoming, it's easy to check listwar to verify this.

Insulting people who prefer the more powerful console is meaningless and immature.

That's funny as many console exclusives struggle to hit 1080p.

GamingTruth3269d ago

DevilOgreFish3269d ago

resolution and graphics do matter, that's why everyone moved on to the current gen. so in the same sense higher graphics quality and resolutions would apply to the same equation.

NeoGamer2323269d ago

People who think the way a game looks is more important than how it plays are pretty naïve.

I think most moved on this generation because the last generation had over stayed its welcome.

To me, so far, the games haven't been that much better this generation than last generation. Games definitely run smoother and better on the newer consoles, but there still hasn't been a game that set the standard like Gears of War and Uncharted did last generation. They were fresh, with new game mechanics, and showed the true capabilities of last generation.

Bloodborne is the closest thing so far, but I would hardly call it innovative and fresh compared to Dark Souls or Demon Souls.

IVanSpinal3269d ago (Edited 3269d ago )

I moved because the New Gen can do more things, like BF4 with 64 players, better graphics & WAY better Framerate (love my X1) Not because of the "resolution". 720 to 1080 is good

Khajiit863268d ago

@Ivan

Most of the games you play on X1 are not 1080p if you dont believe me just type in google search of what resolution all the games are that you play and you will see. And if you play BF Hardline then you are at about 720p lol.

"The resolution settings for Battlefield 4 were 900p on PlayStation 4 and 720p on Xbox One"

@Devil

I agree, Resolution and frame rate matter a lot, its what decides how smooth everything on screen is. I switch between a 900p monitor and 1080p tv and theres a world of difference on the 1080p screen, also when I set my settings too high on newer games and it dips to 30fps you can clearly see right before your eyes of how much better 60fps looks. Doesnt determine the gameplay, but if games like Witcher 3 and Arkhma Knight played the way the do but had PS2 graphics would everyone still be saying graphics dont matter? People need to get real, going to 1080p and beyond means that the evolution of gaming is continued.

Resolution isn't everything....it is just the ONLY thing when comparisons are made between PS4 and XB1.

When it comes to PC vs consoles, then there is a different tune in the air.

That is why I am getting Witcher 3, Arkham Knight and all third party games that are made available on consoles and PC on the superior platform..ie PC.

iistuii3269d ago

Yeah it does make me laugh. When the Xbox only hits 900p the flags come out, when the PC Hits 4k, all of a sudden it doesn't matter.

badz1493269d ago (Edited 3269d ago )

so...your 4k capable pc cost $400 too? where can I buy it?

seriously though, 4k is great and all but it can't be achieved at the price the consoles are being offered. simple as that. it's the question about value and with that in mind, a $400 pc is sure to struggle to match the performance of the PS4 too. that is the better and fairer comparison to make.

but with years to come, surely there will be a $400 pc that can outperform the PS4 of today but the PS4 will only get cheaper and so the value advantage continues.

if only the 4k pc vs PS4 comparison matters, why can't we organize a boxing match between Mayweather and Chris Brown for example. the former is a fully trained boxer while the later is just an abusive singer but why not, right? they are both men and can throw punches! seems fair. /s

poor_cus_of_games3268d ago

I'm loving the look of games like Bioshock, DMC, Arkham City and Mortal Kombat X on my 4k rig. But considering the price I paid for the rig and the monitor it will be a while till it goes mainstream.
And yeah, I still enjoy games like Bloodborne on my ps4, my favourite game this gen, So resolution by no means a yardstick for measuring how much you can enjoy a game

badz1493269d ago

exactly! 4k is nice and all but it's achieved for a premium at the moment. it won't be mainstream just yet but when the next gen of consoles come in a few more years, the market will be ready for a mass adoption of 4k gaming.

but the sad truth is, when that happens, elitist pc master race will start bragging about 8k instead. you know, since being at the same level with peasants will kinda give them cancer and all.

Psychotica3268d ago

Yes people who play it on a higher resolution will get just that little bit more of enjoyment. If not true why would anyone bother with it, why would people buy HD and Ultra HD tv's?

d0x3603268d ago

Is it everything? Hell no but sometimes visual issues caused by resolution can pull you out of a game. For example alien isolation on console or pc at 1080p has some nasty jaggies and pixel crawl and even on pc with super levels of AA they can't be removed because they aren't polygonally they are caused by shaders and post lighting effects.

So the only solution is higher resolution. I generally render alien isolation at 4k 60fps and have my tv down sample the image to 1080p. Jaggies go away, overall age quality gets a huge boost as well and the game is better for it.

The issue with 4k is adoption in displays. Not many people have a 4k display and because of that simple singular fact this entire article devolves into clickbait nonsense. In 2 years that might change but until at least half of pc gamers can both run and display 4k content it doesn't matter and I can tell you with absolute certainty that 50% of pc gamers dont have nvidia 980's or better or AMD 290x's or better and of those who do (like myself) most of those people don't have 4k displays.

Nerdmaster3268d ago

When Nintendo released the original Wii with SD graphics people laughed saying that Nintendo wasn't prepared for the future, that HD and Full HD TVs would become more and more popular. These days, though, that's not much of a thing.

PC gaming is as simple as installing, getting the updates and playing, though you do have to quickly check requirements unless you've got a higher-end rig.

Consoles have become a tad more awkward due to now having mandatory install, plus updates etc.

I'd honestly say neither one is easier than the other these days.

nX3269d ago

Where consoles are lacking basic things PC is lacking content sometimes, so having both is the best you can do. Consoles are much cheaper than a proper gaming PC (that can run proper 4k) and their exclusives are a solid reason to own one.

slinky1234563269d ago

PC has installs and Updates just as much if not more than Consoles do. Devs push out updates more because they're easier to get out on PC. PC just has a lot more optimization.

He has a point. Consoles used to be much simpler. Put the game in and play. PC used to be more complicated. Now when you download a game on steam it downloads the game with the updates pre applied and there is no install time as it installs while it downloads. As a NVidia user I have not come across major driver issues.

As far as buggy games go, that seems to be the standard for everyone nowadays. Only on PC you have a better chance of being able to fix the issue yourself where on console you are more likely to need to wait for a patch.

Nerdmaster3268d ago

@2pacalypsenow
"You just said pc is as simple as INSTALLING getting updates and playing

But on a console installing updating and playing is a hassle?"

Yes. I have 283 games in my Steam library, and do you know how many times I had to redownload a game because the install file was corrupted? Only once.

Now, do you know how many times I had to redownload a game on PS3 and Wii U? More times than I can count. Search for "Error 80029564"and you'll see that tons of people have problems with downloading and installing games on PS3.

I also have to mention the terribly slow download speed on consoles. I always leave them downloading overnight.

Shineon3268d ago (Edited 3268d ago )

Consoles were hassle free in 6th gen but 7th and 8th they are becoming more like a PC that's limited (non upgradeable )just software updates and stability fixes meh

I plugged my PC into my TV just as easily as console, and I have wireless controls. Don't see what the hassle is if it's just as easy as your setup.

theXtReMe13269d ago (Edited 3269d ago )

What they don't tell you is that only 1% of PC owners are actually playing games in 4K. And those that are, spent a thousand dollars plus building their systems to do so. The difference? Visuals. The game we are playing on the consoles is the exact same game they're playing on their 4K PC, with better visuals. That's it.

In the end, it comes down to who's willing to spend the most money to play the exact same game.. In 4K.

Zero1093269d ago

Well don't forget fps. Almost every PC version of a game has a more stable/higher fps. They'd probably the only other reason, not just 4K.

crazychris41243269d ago

4k is still in its infancy for both the PC and TV markets. Its been out years and I finally saw one installed in a house that I was working in. By the end of this cycle (at least 5 years away) 4k will be mainstream and we should hopefully see the next gen consoles support up to 4k60fps gaming.

Spider-Man3269d ago

4K i don't think it will be mainstream... 8K is coming out this year and no more 3D glasses needed so i guess once people see what 8K brings 4K will be left or replace 1080p... and we will see high end 8K and 4K low end and 1080 slowly discontinued...

2pacalypsenow3269d ago (Edited 3269d ago )

People can barely use 4k and you think 8k will be mainstream this year lol .

1 there is no media available to consumers in 8k
2 only about 00.1% (exaggerating) of gamers could run a game at 8k at 60fps
3 any games other than project cars even support 8k?

8k is years away from being the go to resolution

Bladesfist3269d ago

@2pacalypesnow Most PC games pull the resolution list from the graphics card which receives this information from the monitor. So most games will support 8K.

Qrphe3269d ago (Edited 3269d ago )

I feel the 9th generation of consoles will be a repeat of the 7th one in a way. A new TV format starts becoming standard (1080p then in 2005, 4k in 2019) and while the new consoles do run some games in said format, most games will target and run at a lower resolution (720p back then, 1440p in the next one).

Edit: lol at Spider-Man's comment, 4k isn't even mainstream today, much less 8k.

badz1493269d ago

1440p will NEVER be a 'thing' in the living room tv market. we've witnessed that the TV industry just straight away going from 1080p to 4k right now. so the next mainstream res for TVs will be 4k.

DevilOgreFish3269d ago (Edited 3269d ago )

4k isn't exactly rare. TVs, Some TV channels, Movies, Youtube, PC games, some tablets and even Porn supports 4k. Both XB1 and PS4 supports the resolution just not for games.

Spider-Man3269d ago

you did not get my point if we are talking about support i have not seen and TV channels that support 1080p... i was saying that the BIG names who make TV's will focus more on 8K TVs and never said it will be mainstream this year said it will come out this year on the market and said i see 8K being more popular than 4K with its new features like no 3D glasses needed for 3D watching... 8K will be compatible with 1080p games 4K stuff and when 8K stuff are ready... but time will tell...

Not until 4K becomes the norm in the living room or wherever the console is located. That won't happen anytime soon.

Sea of Thieves Welcomes 40 Million Players

Joe 'Three Sheets' Neate (Executive Producer): "As I’m sure you can imagine, when it comes to Sea of Thieves my days are full of numbers. Development costs, active servers, days until the next update… Sometimes, though, a truly extraordinary number stands out – a number like 40 million, which I’m incredibly pleased to say is the number of pirates who’ve now set sail in Sea of Thieves!"

I pre-order the premium edition for my PS5 today

Crows9046m ago(Edited 45m ago)

40 million have set sail...that's great. How many are sailing now? Monthly active users....when it actually matters. How many people purchased the game is another important number.

Gamingsince198138m ago

You don't get numbers like that from MS mouth pieces, they just like to say stuff like "this game was looked at 129 million time, the biggest amount of people browsing a game of this genre on xbox gamepass ever in the last 3 weeks compared to before gamepass was out (small print only 2 million bothered playing longer than 20 seconds and only 100 people are playing it concurrently)

It's all smoke and mirrors

nibblo21m ago

There are usually around 10,000 concurrent users on Steam not counting Xbox or PS but really it doesn't matter as long as there are enough people on the servers to play which there always were and will be for a long time now with the PS players coming on board. Same goes for how many people bought it and how many are on GP, we aren't the accountants of these console companies so why would we care?
