Far Cry 4 Complete Edition skipping Xbox One

Ubisoft has confirmed to Gamereactor that they have no plans to bring the Complete Edition of Far Cry 4 to Xbox One.

"The Far Cry 4 Complete Edition will be released on June 19, 2015 on Playstation4 and PC only in EMEA territories. We have no plans to release it on Xbox One," a company spokesperson confirmed.

I saw this yesterday. Guess I'll just have to buy the DLC lol.

It's weird because it's just a repackaging of content that is already developed and available. Ubisoft must have some reason for skipping the Xbox, some fee that Microsoft charge or process they have to follow that equates to more cost than it's worth. But I have no idea what.

nX3277d ago (Edited 3277d ago )

Well "more cost than it's worth" is not a business decision I would expect from someone like Ubisoft. You might want to believe that publishers have different reasons for doing these kind of things and these decisions start in the marketing department, not in.. controlling :v

@below: Skipping a platform (with an install base of 15mio+) is not something big publishers did last gen, this pretty much started within the last few months and these decisions are pasrt of a extensive business strategy...

Volkama3277d ago

Honestly, I read that 3 times and I don't know what you're trying to say.

ThanatosDMC3277d ago

^Lol

OT: Yeah, it sucks for people who want the complete edition on the Xbone.

Volkama3277d ago (Edited 3277d ago )

What extensive business strategy? Like, a grand exit from Xbox development or something?

Numbers matter. Costs and projected sales matter. In the case of a "gold" or "goty edition" that just repackages the game with existing DLC the costs are relatively low. That is what makes the decision stand out as odd. These editions are often referred to as "cash-ins", or "money for old rope" for good reason.

Maybe it's a strange condition of the marketing deal they have with Sony, as some comments below seem to speculate. Sony typically exclude PC from their exclusive promotions, so it seems unlikely but stranger things have happened.

Maybe the big strategy you speak of is that Ubisoft will shortly announce "Ubisoft Access", and Far Cry 4 will be included in the "UbiVault"? That would probably slow sales of a Gold edition, given the audience those target (ie people that aren't keen enough to buy it when it launches).

Edit: The complete edition is presumably the same as the Gold edition? If so then it might be as simple as MS refusing to allow a publisher to list the same package twice at different prices. https://store.xbox.com/en-G...

slasaru013277d ago

You might have noticed that Ubisoft games are most common for Xbox Live sales. So I think, they have an agreement about the games and DLC appearing on sales more often.

KiwiViper853277d ago

Possibly, just possibly...

Microsoft has already struck a deal with Ubisoft to give FarCry4 with Games with Gold, at some point in the future. In which case they would still want to have the DLC sales that come as a result of getting a free game.

Possibly?

MasterCornholio3277d ago

@Kiwi

Sounds like your trying to patch something up.

Look what happened with this isn't a big deal.

You can trust me on this.

Mr Pumblechook3276d ago

I really don't think that this is because of a moneyhat because it doesn't make any business sense. This is a game that is now over six months old, which is available on all Xbox One. What possible benefit would there be to Sony paying money to block the release of a 'game of the year' edition?

Most probable is that Ubisoft looked at the printing costs and based their decision on sales forecasts. Xbox One is selling well in the USA but has not been as widely adopted across Europe.

Volkama3276d ago

@Mr Pumblechook, The simplest explanation is often the right one, yes.

Though if printing costs are a problem you'd think they would still release a digital edition so it's a little strange. A little strange is what makes it a little interesting :)

Ubisoft has a stream everyone Wednesday on twitch at 1pm EST, and they giveaway Season Pass codes and game codes everytime. I won the SP two months ago. Give it a shot

The stream is also fun to watch.

RocketScienceLvlStuf3277d ago

I'm not sure why you are marked as trolling MightyNox. What you said is absolutely true.

We are already started seeing games skipping xbone in Japan. Now it is starting to move to other parts of the world too.

dcbronco3277d ago

His comments were marked as trolling because they were. A version of a game not releasing on a console that you already produced all of the assets for means you were paid not to do it. It has nothing to do with power of any system. If that were the case there would have only been a PC version. And sense it's said there is nothing to play on Xbox One, this was an opportunity to exploit that space.

An alternative could be Microsoft paid for a Games for Gold DX12 release a little later on. DX12 Games for Gold releases would offer great value and show the true benefits of the new API.

Now witness the power of this armed and fully operational Xbox.

MysticStrummer3277d ago

"I'm not sure why you are marked as trolling MightyNox."

It's the nature of the site, and of humans. People keep calling this a PS fan controlled site even though comments like that get marked as trolling when they're just telling the truth. Humans are weird.

First thing I thought when I saw the title was "less sales with no sign of changing = why bother?"

@dcbronco - If memory serves, that quote preceded the destruction of the Death Star, death of the Emperor, and end of the Empire.

I'd say more about what you think is going to happen with DX12 but it would be marked as trolling even though MS themselves have said exactly what I would say.

ThePope3277d ago (Edited 3277d ago )

The problem with your argument is many of you don't know anything about business. If the game sold poorly on the X1 due to install base or whatever non-sense reason you want to make up than the publisher would absolutely release the GOTY edition on the Xbox since it has a greater pool of people to sell to. Especially when you consider the game came out around the same time as Halo MCC, meaning that many games MAY have skipped it because of a greater desire to play Halo

The truth is Sony probably has a marketing deal or something of the like that's keeping it off the X1. Remember the install base is to high (outside of Japan) to say "Lets just skip the X1. Especially when you consider its very similar in architecture to the PS4.

No matter how much you want the PS4 to be the only console IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. The market is far to lucrative, and the Xbox brand is too big.

NEXT.

P.S. There is a GOLD edition that includes ALL of the things this offers. SO it makes your argument even more wrong.

gangsta_red3276d ago

Far Cry 4 GOLD edition is on Xbox One and it comes with everything.

Maybe that is why MightyNox was marked trolling.

Transistor3277d ago

Mighty Nox is telling the truth.

The minimum run for AAA development is 200K-250K.

So, yes. Japanese development is slowing up on Xbox One, because games like FF type 0 failed to hit that target.

The new Wolfenstien just had a digital release only in EU for this reason.

MasterCornholio3277d ago

"The new Wolfenstien just had a digital release only in EU for this reason."

You sure about that because I can find the physical copy for all three versions on Amazon UK.

Transistor3277d ago

It definitely was, might have changed.

http://wccftech.com/wolfens...

Try other places, not UK. Let me know.

kenshiro1003276d ago

The truth burns, that's why.

It's like pouring holy water on a vampire.

Sevir3277d ago

Gap be damned though. in Comparison to the XB360 the XBO is selling much better. and is every bit a success. the thing is, The PS4 has the mind and market share of consumers. but this has very little to do with XBO becoming irrelevant. This is likely Sony's partnership dollars with Ubisoft being the dictator here. The whole Key's to Kyrat and marketing partnership granted PS4 users the ability to play the game for free for an hour by simply sharing it with other PS4 gamers who didn't own the game. Its why AC:Unity was marketed heavily on XBO. Its something i'm sure Sony themselves threw money at to have this happen.

Christopher3277d ago

IMHO, this makes no sense unless their sales on XBO were less than 500k. And, I doubt that is the case.

Transistor3277d ago (Edited 3277d ago )

I think it's more can they sell another 500K.

Like I said, 250K is usually the minimum run for AAA titles.

Xbox versus PS4 software in EU is lopsided, in NA not so much. I said above the new Wolfenstein didn't even get a physical release in EU on Xbox One. It's also the reason for JP games being PlayStation exclusives lately, some deals were done before the PS4 launch though, like Star Ocean 5.

XanderZane3277d ago

This seems to be only in the EMEA territory. What about in the US & UK territories? Will it be released in those places? Someone needs to ask Ubisoft that question. With over 12 million XB1 sold worldwide in less then 2 years, it's a bit silly not to release this game in territories everywhere.

lelo2play3277d ago

This smells like a deal between Sony and Ubisoft.

Far Cry 4 Complete Edition exclusive... this is new low from Sony and Ubisoft. Now I have seen it all...

boing13276d ago

You haven't seen it all. More is coming. And there is no deal between Sony and Ubi for FC4.

MasterCornholio3277d ago (Edited 3277d ago )

Only for those territories?

Well that's probably why it skips the XB1.

I really wasn't expecting this to be honest.

Gamer19823277d ago

Erm no it sold 3 million worldwide on ps4 1 million on xbox 1 thats the real reason why. Third partys are going to start giving major preference to PS4 soon if sales keep slanting towards ps4 like this. Gamers are deciding with there wallets and the complete edition was clearly a business choice. It sold half a million on PC (hard copies) but PC is hard to say because most PC users buy digital and we never get to see those numbers.. I reckon it probably sold more than xbox one though since it sold half the amount on hard copys alone.

mhunterjr3277d ago (Edited 3277d ago )

Companies still want to sell as much software as possible... "Complete editions" are ways to continue to profit from a game once sales have declined...

Selling 1mil copies on xb1 is nothing to scoff at, especially when that version had no marketing. The fact that the ps4 version outsold it is, alone, no reason to skip an Xbox rerelease.

ravencry3276d ago (Edited 3276d ago )

lol you used vgchartz. it doesn't count digital sales for pc which are 90%.

yes pc sold half million physical copies not bad right ?

4 wasn’t so bad

Pagan Min was pretty entertaining

Skuletor41d ago

Yeah, 4 was good, was hard choosing which Golden Dawn member to side with, when they were both pieces of sh!t.
I've beaten all the main entries except 2 and 6, ended up uninstalling 6 to download something else instead.

Profchaos41d ago

I'd love a far cry pack with the original PC game (not the half assed port on ps360) instincts, predator even a port of far cry 2 to modern consoles back when these games had their own identity and weren't far cry 3 cut and pastel

Demetrius41d ago

Still one of my most favorite franchises along with assassins creed

banger8841d ago (Edited 41d ago )

Same here, I don't know why these games get so much hate. I've thoroughly enjoyed every single one of them, with only a couple of exceptions. I wish they'd hurry up and announce Far Cry 7. The only thing I'm concerned about is the rumoured time limit.

I would put 5 above 6 but agree with the other ratings. Though 6 has more refined gameplay compared to 5 it's lack of a compelling story really does hurt it imo but if you are a gameplay fiend and don't really care about story it makes sense.
