Why This Leaked Mass Effect Survey is Totally Unrealistic and Ruins the Franchise

The leaked survey on the next Mass Effect and alleged story and gameplay details makes no sense in the Mass Effect universe. The included information gets broken down and described within the Mass Effect story lore and timeline.

Not trying to be mean, but why are like 90% of sites, linked to from here, formatted so badly for mobile? Doesn't mobile account for the majority of traffic?

Summons753294d ago

To be honest the site doesn't look very good on a computer either. The entire article feels like one giant block of text. Not much spacing and each section head is the same size as everything else, nothing to make it stand out as a new section.

OrangePowerz3294d ago (Edited 3294d ago )

Why are strike missions a red flag? They would be the same as the missions in Dragon Age: Inquisition where you send people out on missions.

As for the relays, I don't remember if they all had been destroyed plus if it's set a long time after ME3 they could have been rebuilt or came up with some new method of travelling faster. It's. SciFi so it's not too hard to imagine them coming up with a new way or rebuild relays.

Menkyo3294d ago

All relays were destroy, stranding not only hundreds or thousands of alien troops on earth but all their fleets as well. Having this new story line set in the same time as Shepard is kind of cheap bs if ya ask me.

OrangePowerz3294d ago

Why is it cheap? The universe is huge and there would be more dangers out there than just the Reapers.

Menkyo3294d ago

What could possibly my be more threating than a gigantic galaxy ending race of machines that harvest 95% of the life in the galaxy? Nothing and its cheap lazy story telling, using the same time frame means you don't have to actually have to do much in the way of back story.

OrangePowerz3294d ago (Edited 3294d ago )

Why does everything need to be galaxy ending? They can make just as well good games and stories without everything having to be galaxy ending. They can actually make a great story that is more personal and down to earth where the character doesn't hold the fate of the universe in his hands. Stargate Universe (very underrated show in my opinion) would be a great example for this. It was all about personal threats and not about "if they fail the galaxy will be destroyed" and it was just as much threatening as the Goa'uld, Replicators or the Ori.

If you think they won't have to do much for the backstory you should learn a bit about storytelling. It just means they have already a good and very well developed basis they can build on and expand. Or do you want to tell me that as example Deep Space Nine, Stargate Atlantis/Universe and so on are just lazy shows because the are set in the same time frame as other shows and build upon the existing backstory?

SuicidalTendencies3294d ago

So because there is no gigantic killing machines then there is no threats? You know a germ can kill you and you can't even see it.

Antifan3293d ago

Sorry powerz, but if you actually played the game, there's nothing more dangerous, more destructive than the Reapers, expect for maybe their creators.

Obviously, he hasn't seen interstellar yet. I have serious issues with the direction too, but what if a future version of humanity knew about the reaper invasion and destruction and created a worm hole just prior to the end of ME3. Shepherd stayed to fight the battle but sent a small group of travelers as a last ditch effort to keep races alive...or something like that. Mayne 50 yrs later, a worm hole is discovered. Who knows.

Now, I honestly don't have a problem with an mmo of sorts, like Destiny, but with a Bioware story and companions and choice. The multi from ME3 was VERY underrated imo. It could be everything Destiny shpuld have.

My problem is that of we are going to an entirely new place, all the previous lore is dead. All new races? Why? Such an amazing cast was created. Also, if it's an mmo of sorts, why cab we still only be human?

Naga3294d ago

Interstellar was fundamentally flawed in that either humanity would have survived into the future to create the wormhole, in which case they did not need saving... or humanity would not have survived into the future without it but therefore could not have lived on to create the wormhole in the future. The concept is flawed - both in Interstellar and in your theoretical application to the Mass Effect storyline here.

In any case, I have big-time reservations about this game, considering 1) the storyline will inevitably be set on a smaller scale than that of Reapers harvesting all life in the universe, 2) they burned us with the ending to Mass Effect 3, and 3) their obsession with pushing liberal social agendas (LGBT) seems to find its way into every new game they develop. I'm not even cautiously optimistic at this point.

The_Sage3292d ago (Edited 3292d ago )

I hated that movie....

That said, I have to say I'm kinda with the writer on this. The science don't make sense within Mass Effect. I would like to see a future well after ME3, around the time of the star gazer.

People have said, that wouldn't work, because even though the choices at the end of 3 were lack luster, you did get to make a choice. This could be solved with indoctrination theory. You could write your way out of it.

DOMination-3294d ago

The Reapers built the relays so if this really is set in another galaxy then it shouldn't even matter because there shouldn't be any mass relays in Andromeda..

OB1Biker3294d ago

'The relays were all destroyed by the Crucible at the end of ME3 rendering all travel to other galaxies impossible'

They said many times it s going to be a different story but set during Sheppards time. Not a sequel

Naga3294d ago

They never said when it would be.

OB1Biker3293d ago

'To call the next game 'Mass Effect 4' or 'ME4' is doing it a disservice and seems to cause a lot of confusion here. We have already said that the Commander Shepard trilogy is over and that the next game will not feature him/her. That is the only detail you have on the game. I see people saying 'well, they’ll have to pick a canon ending.' No, because the game does not have to come after. Or before. Or off to the side. Or with characters you know. Or yaddayaddayadda. Wherever, whenever, whoever, etc will all be revealed years down the road when we actually start talking about it. I do not call the game ME4 when I talk about it ever, [because] that makes people think of it more as 'what happens after 'Mass Effect 3' rather than 'what game happens next set in the 'Mass Effect' Universe. Obviously fans are going to speculate content, character and story until we actually reveal details in the years or months to come as you have almost no actual details, just don’t get bogged down in 'well how are they going to continue ME3.'

—Chris Priestly

This statement was followed up by BioWare Edmonton chief Yanick Roy, emphasing that the original trilogy was concluded and they are focusing on a new story in the Mass Effect universe

Naga3293d ago (Edited 3293d ago )

... how does that negate what I just said?

He still didn't say when it would take place: "...the game does not have to come after. Or before. Or off to the side."

So your claim, "They said many times it's going to be a different story but set during Sheppards[sic] time," remains unsubstantiated.

medman3294d ago (Edited 3294d ago )

Man listen...this sounds pretty much like what I wanted from the next Mass Effect, which was a return to the exploration from the first ME, possibly set in the Andromeda Galaxy (which this is saying it will be), or an all out war in which denizens of the Milky Way have to band together against the common foes from the Andromeda Galaxy....it sounds interesting, and more importantly, it sounds like there will be a ton of stuff to do and systems to explore. I'm not saying everything I read sounds great, but everything sounds promising. The seamless travel is especially interesting...hope Bioware can deliver. As to the authors contention that several key points don't make sense...there are certainly ways the talented writers at Bioware could make it work...there are certainly enough zones in our own Milky Way that were not explored in the trilogy to find ways to support this direction they're going (if this turns out to be an accurate article)...

Mass Effect 4 and The Challenges of Canonicity in Choice-Based Games

Game Rant Writes "Canonicity can be a tricky nut to crack in franchises with continuing narratives, and that's something Mass Effect 4 will need to contend with."

wow gamerant forgot mass effect 4 came out years ago number 6 and 7 were cancelled.

The new mass effect which can be called number 5 will not have any of your choices why you might ask?

Well dragon age keep were your choices from number one can been seen in number 3 got unplugged from number one and number 2 is finicky.

Dragon age on pc requires a mod to get past the server login and non of your choices get uploaded to the keep even the dlc no longer works sense it needs a server check.

On xbox i teseted this only though local saves i was able to transfer choices from one to too but 0 of one dlc would work.

So if the more popular dragon age series is in this state why would they care about your mass effect choices?

Oh and that remaster that was tossed out still has day one issues and number 3 is still hard to play on pc do to lighting issues and ram limits imposed from 2014.

My expectations for the next bioware 2.0 titles is very low.

phoenixwing373d ago

They should redo the main trilogy

just_looken373d ago (Edited 373d ago )

They should redo the dragon age trilogy for sure on pc DA1 the ui is messed up sense it was for 4080p/720i days back in 2005. Getting to run is also very hard

The only way to play dragon age one is via xbox one backwards compatable state.

The ps3 version of dragon age one is pre throphy/ in game xmb so it has the freezing/crashing issues or just will not run.

Well i am not American so please enlighten me on usa education before your country invades mine and forces us into your society

GhostScholar373d ago (Edited 373d ago )

@ just_looken

Did I mention education? Never said America did have negative points. I know for all you “enlightened” people you think everything is either all good or all bad, but in reality that’s not how life works. We have a government that traded a known terrorist for a basketball player who moonlights as a drug dealer. We aren’t perfect by a long shot. If you want to go political though how about your leader leaving his own country when the truck driver strike happened?

porkChop373d ago

Dragon Age is not more popular than Mass Effect.

shinoff2183373d ago

Yea I read that and was like I've heard way more people talk mass effect compared to dragon age. Personally I'm more into mass effect. It's got the whole dope ass sci fi thing going on while dragon age has the same old medieval thing

gold_drake373d ago

andromeda is a spin off tjo and not considerd a numvered title. as it has to 99% nothing to do with the trilogy.

i think they need to make the destroy perfect ending canon.
we need more of shepard. haha.

Mass Effect 4 Can Explore Post-Apocalyptic Themes

Game Rant Writes "Mass Effect 4 will likely treat Mass Effect 3’s Destroy ending as canon, and this gives it an opportunity to explore a post-apocalyptic galaxy."

Destroy is the best choice. Bring the relays back over the course of a new trilogy, maybe right at the end of the first game. Say it was Cerberus, Salarians or a bunch of keepers that created a relay.
