GTA V for PC, recommended GPUs for 1080p and 4K resolutions

The highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto V, is coming on PC this April 14 2015, and it's promising an amazing game experience played at 60 fps with 1080p or 4K Resolution. This article give a list of some of the GPUs to get the best out of this game.

DarkOcelet3299d ago (Edited 3299d ago )

My guess you will need more than a 1000$ just to make it playable on Ultra settings at 1080p/60fps.

I am thinking of getting an Asus Republic of gamers laptop very soon. I am pretty sure it will handle the game very well.

crazychris41243299d ago

make sure you get a laptop with a IPS screen, screen on my new Asus laptop is horrible. Cost a little more but its worth it.

thereapersson3299d ago (Edited 3299d ago )

Nah, you can buy a 400 dollar PC that can run this game on ultra.

You think I'm making a console reference. You'd be wrong...

Vegamyster3299d ago

Not at 1080p 60 fps lol, running the game fully maxed out is going to need a bit more.

Mikeyy3299d ago

I'm tired of people claiming that these $400 PCs are running modern games in 1080p.

my GPU alone is $260, what parts are you using?

OS is $100, so you have $300 left to tell me what you have.

XB1_PS43299d ago (Edited 3299d ago )

@Mikeyy I fully agree with you, other than the OS. Grab a Windows 7 basic OEM from a trading site for $8.

mochachino3298d ago

@ Mikeyy

Even a passable gaming kb/m will cost you $50. So even if you found Windows cheap (no way it's 8 dollars, lowest I've seen is $40) your not working with much for GPU/CPU and then there's motherboard, RAM, PSU, HD, and a case. No one is building a rig from scratch that plays this even at xone quality for $400.

Kleptic3298d ago (Edited 3298d ago )

Apply the same rules for console vs. PC...

I've been gaming on a PC only since 2013, haven't found enough reason to replace my PS3 with a new console yet, but still can't argue that at $399 a PS4's performance to cost ratio is undeniable...what it really came down to was that the PS4 was about 50 dollars more than a gpu upgrade i had been eye'ing, that is over double the performance of the PS4's...but that is s separate thing entirely, as i already had a decent base to start from with my desktop...

if starting completely from scratch; you won't get PS4 performance on PC unless you double that investment...I'll admit that most of that is simply because of DX11 right now...it simply takes higher performing parts to get console like output because of DX11...if DX12 does what its rumored to, that cost gap will diminish considerably...

but anyway...yeah when someone says 'i bought a PC for $500 that outperforms a PS4'...no they didn't...or, they left out the part where they 'used all of my existing stuff like a monitor, m/k, speakers/headphones, OS, tower, power supply, memory, etc'...and basically spent $500 on a main board, cpu, and gpu...

thereapersson3298d ago

Wow, not one person picked up on the sarcasm. My comment was meant to be a jab at elitist PC trolls.

Two ASUS Strix GTX970's in SLI at £300 each, have everything set to max, runs perfectly at 1080@60.

Saying that, i did have issues at the start to get it to run in full screen, but a driver update sorted that out.

kraenk123299d ago

one 970 would be sufficient. mine is

SniperControl3299d ago

@kraenk12

Running at 4K@60 with both cards now, only thing turned of is the AA options.

Smooth as butter.

pompombrum3299d ago

I'd research laptops well before getting one in hopes of handling this.. I'm using a good spec Alienware laptop and the game runs terribly. Make sure the laptop at the very least has a top end graphics card.

yess3299d ago

I have a MSI GT72 laptop, i7, 970M 6 V-ram, and the usual stuff.

It runs GTA V smooth as butter 1080/60.

It really isn't that demanding...

imXify3299d ago

Clevo laptop with i7 and Radeon R9 m290x.

1080p/60fps smooth as butter also.

kraenk123299d ago (Edited 3299d ago )

1. I have an ancient 3,5 year old I5 2500k and a GTX 970 for 300 and can play it fully maxed out at 60 fps at 1080p.

2. Never get a laptop for gaming.

Kleptic3298d ago

well, to be fair, that cpu is still incredibly good even by todays standards...there are plenty of newer cpu's that simply aren't as fast, and don't overclock as well...from both intel and AMD...

but yeah...I haven't bought the PC version, but i figured a 970 from Nvidia, or a 280x from AMD...was enough to guarantee a steady 60fps at 1080...the 'recommended' stuff they listed, like a 7770 or 650, was laughably low though...

Tzuno3299d ago (Edited 3299d ago )

I don't give 2 cents about ultra and anti-aliasing, a smart gamer that knows how to configure the settings doesn't need to spend 1000$. Laptop? lol, go ahead buy it but don't cry later :)

d0x3603299d ago

You are correct. All told my pc was $3000 and is 4 weeks old. Granted I went x99 and ddr4 so you could probably shave $500ish off that price if you sent ddr3 but I'm running everything maxxed at 1080p and I average 60 but have dips to 45 at random makes no sense moments. Running this game proper is not cheap.

ShottyGibs3298d ago

I just did an 5820k X99 build for less and am running 80 - 100 fps maxed out @ 1080p using a single 980

MRMagoo1233298d ago

At the pc shop I run, laptops are called disposable PCs lol.

Fishy Fingers3299d ago (Edited 3299d ago )

Useless list. Only way to get a decent idea how your GPU will fare is to look for specific benchmarks for your card or similar.

Overall it doesn't appear to be as demanding as I'd of expected, especially after the poor GTAIV port.

KTF263299d ago

"it doesn't appear to be as demanding as I'd of expected, especially after the poor GTAIV port."

Between GTA 4 and 5 there is Max Payne 3
MP3 is what I call perfect port
it's not an open-world but it uses the same engine

Father__Merrin3299d ago

I've a oc 7870 so I could run it at 30fps but titles like this I would always prefer console experience.

CoLD FiRE3299d ago

Dat "cinematic" experience!

neocores3299d ago

I have an i5 with 8gigs of ram
With a amd Radeon 6870 hd 2gig gddr5 can i run this well???

Fez3299d ago (Edited 3299d ago )

Ooooh short answer "yes" with an "if", long answer "no" with a "but"...

MRMagoo1233298d ago

you can run it well at medium/high maybe

darren_poolies3299d ago

I have an ASUS Radeon R9 290X so :D

NBT913299d ago

Asus GTX 970 STRIX here.
I don't even know what that is but it's in my PC and the article says it's good for 1080P 60FPS so I'm cool with that.

GTA 5’s cut “James Bond Trevor” DLC was already part-shot, actor says

The GTA 5 Agent Trevor DLC episode could have been a real treat for fans on PlayStation and Xbox, before it was scrubbed sometime before 2017.

More interested in money than giving fans what they want. Such a shame

CrimsonWing692d ago

With the amount of money they generated, I just don’t understand the scrubbing of this. It would’ve been fantastic for fans.

Profchaos2d ago

I really want to know who drove the decision to focus on multiplayer was it Rockstar or take two.

Because when online started taking off many of the studio leads began having falling outs and leading including a founder

Demetrius1d 15h ago

Ikr mfs that greedy it's ridiculous

andy852d ago

This makes me sad. Trevor was one of my favourite characters in gaming

Demetrius1d 15h ago

One of the reason I believe once gta 6 release, most of us thoroughly play it, enjoy the world they crafted then after that no offline support, no dlc at all
