The Blade's Will Harrison: Bloodborne is not for everyone. While that might sound like experienced gamer elitism, it remains a fair warning. Bloodborne is far less willing to hold the hand of the player than a majority of modern games.
The overwhelming challenge will be a deal breaker for anyone looking for a more laid back experience. Those willing to fight their fears and inadequacies will find one of the best games of 2015.
The Souls-like genre remains popular, along with FromSoftware's classics there are many contenders. But which are the best Souls-like games?
Hmm... In my opinion, the 7 best are the 6 made by FromSoftware (DeS, DS1, DS2, DS3, BB and ER), then Lies of P. But each to their own.
Saad from eXputer: "Almost a decade later, it's time to take the nostalgia goggles off and accept that Bloodborne has long been surpassed by its successors."
Yes, yes it does. It’s still a great game. Elden Ring isn’t better just different and a bit easier . I like that you have to be aggressive but smart in Bloodborne
"Sony is missing out on a hugely profitable opportunity by ignoring fan demands for a Bloodborne remaster and PC port," says Ahmed from eXputer.
Bloodborne came out on the PS4. It is owned by From Software. What missed opportunity? I am sure the people at From Software know what they are doing. Especially since they are hiring devs instead of laying them off.
Maybe do an article about that instead of writing a hit piece on them acting like they don't know how to run their business.
It will be a launch title on PS6 just like the remake of Demon's Souls for PS5 launch
The Toledo Blade is a great name for a paper.
On topic, this game deserves all the praise it gets. I liked the Souls games but not as much as some others. Bloodborne however, I adore, to the point where it is going to breach my top ten games of all time list. Apart from the occasional camera hiccups I am struggling to find something I dislike.
The combat is deep, rewarding, fair, and most importantly for me, more fluent than Souls. The visuals are both twisted and awe inspiring, the sense of exploration and uncertainty is incredible, and the sound design and score are amazing. It is also adept at making me jump, especially in the dark with headphones on. The weeping really creeps me out as well.
I can't put my finger on it but even though on the surface it seems like another Souls game, it isn't. It feels different. It feels poised, and sharp. It feels like an evolution but it is one you'd need to play to understand.
If you have not played a Souls game, or maybe did and weren't quite drawn in, I would recommend Bloodborne. It will suck you in and not let go. I actually dreamed about it last night. That is how much it has got under my skin.
"Bloodborne is not for everyone. While that might sound like experienced gamer elitism…"
Nah that's just common sense. The highest selling games are only played by a a fraction of the install base.
I wish I could get deep into this game. But the third boss has been destroying me for the past three days. I'm about to give up.
When I get a PS4, this might just be the first thing that goes into it.
