Gabe Newell of Valve shared a similar sentiment with regards to a Half-Life sequel. "The only reason we'd go back and do like a super classic kind of product is if a whole bunch of people just internally at Valve said they wanted to do it and had a reasonable explanation for why [they did]. But you know if you want to do another Half-Life game and you want to ignore everything we've learned in shipping Portal 2 and in shipping all the updates on the multiplayer side, that seems like a bad choice," he said.
Fan projects Team Fortress: Source 2 and Portal 64 have shut down after Valve intervened in their development.
First they open Steam up to more AI, now they are shutting down fan projects when at one time they used to support or even give the fans jobs.
Wonder what's going on with Valve at the minute.
I mean, that might explain the Team Fortress 2 thing, because Valve might bring that to Source 2 (though I'm not sure I'd bet on that), but I can't see how Portal 64 hurts them. If anything, it's more attention to the Portal and therefore Valve/Steam.
There's potential that Valve had already planned to bring Source 2 to TF2 officially after Counter Strike 2. It's been getting some renewed attention lately.
You got Nintendo to thank for Portal64 being taken down. As for TF2, most likely it's due to the probability of Valve working on a source 2 port themselves. It's sucks but Nintendo are the biggest pricks in the business and not letting this drag out into a huge court drama is the best decision.

This has nothing to do with generations. It’s not a stupid challenge or anything. People just happened to smell it while they were playing. The steam deck exhaust is easy to smell without even trying. Just playing it you’ll smell it in the air around you.

Even the Steam Deck does streaming better than the Portal (they portal is capped for streaming for some reason, whereas the Steam Deck isn't).
imagine pretending a glorified streaming device is better than a stand alone unit that can also, stream.

There have been devs who have left over this laid back Gabe to wanting to be creative.
Whenever fans try push him about HL3 he shuts them down yet he has a milti billion digital distribution service. He has employees that willing to work hard create great games he doesnt have to lift a finger..

I'm getting tired of this. I wish Gabe could just tell us what is happening in game development (if anything).
I used to admire him for his cutting edge game design, but now he's abandoning us for the $$ in his wallet. He does know we're the reason he's gotten rich so he should show some gratitude and finish the Half Life series as promised to his fans 10 years ago. He owes us that.
The way they've treated Half Life has been ridiculous, I wouldn't mind if the story was finished but it's not.
Every time people think "Oh great Valves release slate is clearing up, time to focus on Half Life" they end up announcing something else which despite sounding cool it's not something people are crying out for.

Half life is the game which put Valve on the map, now all they care about is online games
I love what Valve have made and done for us but they are turning into a shadow of their former selfs. How can people keep defending them
