Zelda Wii U's Delay: How NX Factors In

The general form of Nintendo says the following: "Nintendo home consoles will always release five years after the release of the previous product and never earlier". Descartes doesn't lie.

So even if this new platform results to be a hybrid (home console + handheld), it shouldn't release until 2017. Considering this, I don't think the game is going to take that long.

The article isn't saying that will happen, just exploring how it would go down if it did. To be fair, Wii U broke that trend by releasing six years after Wii and N64 was originally going to come out in lsyr 95, Cube was going to come out holiday 2000. Both got delayed due to lack of software. So Nintendo planned on giving SNES and 64 lives of 4 years in the past before things came up.

Xmas 2017 sounds right based on what AMD is saying. AND expects to start selling chips to Nintendo in 2016. Need enough time for the 4.6 Tflop GPU to be affordable. So spring/summer 2017 in Japan. XMAS for US.

What's the point in trying to focus on that? General TVs can't output in 4k and 4k TVs are waaaaay over priced right now. 4K looks awesome but it won't be dominate for a while.

Nope, the NX will be out a lot sooner than that. Nintendo is in poor shape right now, due to the failure of the Wii U and declining 3DS sales. If they don't get a new system out there soon, they'll be done with gaming hardware for good.

Which might not be a bad thing, since all of their gaming hardware has been mediocre for over a decade. If they build the NX around a gimmick like all their recent consoles, it's going to be doomed as well.

It amazes me how people think there is some type of "law" to console generations. There isn't. If it is obvious that your product is doing poorly after your 2 biggest system sellers come out, you move on.

They don't even have any 2016 games we know of yet and it's usually not the case we know of none.

So while this may not be true there is sufficient evidence it is possible.

Just because they announced to the public doesn't mean it's years off. R&D for new consoles begin as soon as one is launched. This is no secret. Wii U's uphill battle is only going to get steeper from here.

Nobody said it was coming next year....The most likely scenario, Zelda for the Wii U was moved to development on the NX, then at E3 THIS YEAR, Nintendo unveils the NX...Starts building Hype and at E3 2016 reveals that the new console will drop in fall 2016 and that Zelda is now a launch title for that system......

They did it with Twilight Princess there is ZERO reason why they wouldn't do it again, the Wii U might get a port. But IF Nintendo is smart they will not port it to the Wii U forcing people to actually go out and purchase the new console IF they want to play it...

I say NX is Late 2017, sometime 2018. ZeldaU releases in 2016 but, we might see a twilight Princess situation and have it on WiiU and NX.

Juat watch at E3 2015 they will talk about the new console maybe actually show it, then at E3 2016 they announce that the new console releases FALL 2016 and that the Zelda game is now a launch title for that system....

Nintendo cult members can deny it all they want, but the Wii U is a failure, it has sold less than 10 million units in the 2 years it's been out and nothing so far has saved it. They want to get away from failure and start hopefully printing money again. They have ZERO first party games releasing this year now that they moved Zelda

I like Nintendo but I totally agree with you. If they aren't planning on showing it at this E3 does that mean they don't expect it to release until after next E3? That'd really be upsetting to me.

They do have quite a bit to show off already, though, so it makes a bit of sense. Mario Maker, Yoshi's Woolly World, Devil's Third, Xenoblade, Star Fox, and plenty of other potential titles like Retro's new game, Intelligent Systems' seeming Wii U game, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, Next Level games'seeming Wii U game, Project Giant Robot or Project Guard, maybe some big Mario Kart or Smash Bros DLC pack. Potentially there could also be more third party partnerships like they had with Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors and Devil's Third.

Knowing all that and hearing this quote made me feel a bit better: "Because we’d like to focus on developing the game, we aren’t planning on showing it at this year’s E3, where we will be highlighting games launching in 2015. We will let you know when we’re ready to share more specifics."

My money is on a new handheld. The 3DS was released in 2011 and when they talk about it in 2016 it will be 5 years old.

When they say it won't be at E3 do they mean at all or no gameplay but a trailer will be shown.

It won't be an NX launch title, there hasn't been a LOZ launch title for the last four generations.

LOZ games are usually released after the the console has found it's feet and Zelda-U might be the same. The problem is that there might not be many titles to fill the void until it does arrive.

Dang man. The Wii U can't afford delays. For the most part, all they get are exclusives. Not many multiplatform games come to Wii U. They only have a few games as it is. Frustrating.

From the photo of the NX concept- it seemed like the NX will work with all electronic Plats- PC, Cellphones, Tablets, 3DS (port), and WiiU (console).

Not too far fetch as the Wii was a GC/Wii console and the WiiU is a Wii/WiiU console.
So it makes sense that they are able to make a console that occupies the same space as a previous console.

Sony with PS4 and Ps3 and Nintendo's own New 3DS and 3DS/2DS prove that it is Okay for Nintendo to have more than 1 standard on market at a time.

If journalists these days actually tried to do a little research, they'd discover that every Zelda game has been delayed one year since the N64 days. But of course, we all can make stupid conclusions without information.

Answer: it doesn't factor in, but there's a vocal group of idiotic Wii U haters that want you to believe it means they're pushing it onto a new console instead, despite the fact that Nintendo is still calling it "Zelda for Wii U".
Nintendo already stated that the delay is because they keep coming up with new ideas for the game and need more time to incorporate all the great stuff they can into it.
Haters need to accept that we've got at least 2 more years of Wii U left.
If sales not matching expectations didn't make them drop the GC 3 years in, then Wii U isn't going anywhere.XD
