DirectX 12 Delivers: AMD, Nvidia, And Intel Hardware Tested With Awesome Improvements

Microsoft, Nvidia, and AMD have all been united in delivering the DirectX 12 hype.

Foehammer3317d ago

"You may be skeptical about DirectX 12, and I don’t blame you. After all, PC (and often by extension, console) games have been handicapped for years by prior versions of Microsoft's API."

Very impressive results

Good to see PC and X1 will no longer be handicapped.

WCxAlchemist3317d ago

Agree PC results have been huge also Xbox1 with dx12 and new api should see nice results.

never4get3317d ago

Some people say that X1 games already using all X1 CPU cores to the fullest, but those games use DX11. DX11 is a bad API that doesn't use all X1 CPU cores to the fullest. DX12 can help games use all X1 CPU cores to the fullest.

GameNameFame3317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

Good news for PC, but absolutely nothing on Xbox One.

Literally no info. MS devs who made this already said the benefit was for PC. Not X1.

Article don't even mention Xbox.... LoL.

We have confirmations over and over and over that it was for PC and Not Xbox One.

Kleptic3317d ago

how...do people...still keep saying the Xbox one currently uses DX11????

DX12 is a huge deal for PC...irrelevant to XBO...but, rest assured, the XBO already uses a very optimized API that is FAR superior to DX11 in every way...can a PC play BF4 on medium to high settings at 720p near 60 fps with a laptop cpu and radeon 7770 gpu?...not even close...the xbox one's api is why it can...

that sounds like a criticism...but it isn't...I don't understand what is so hard to accept about this current gen of consoles...things changed...the money wasn't there to push ridiculous amounts of processing power and sell it at a loss...for either company...but, the api's are so good it currently doesn't matter...as they're still getting great looking games...

but some magic api from MS isn't going to change the reality of what is going on in the hardware sector...

have you guys read about the AMD 390x?...8.2 Tflops of Gpu performance...for $500...the XBO is 1.3...for perspective...Nvidia has an android TV streaming box coming in the next couple of months that has 1.2...for $99...that is a a set top box, running android, built on ARM architecture (whats in cell phones)...that matches the Xbox One's calculative performance...at least nearly...translated: smart phones and tablets are going to be more powerful than the xbox one by early 2016...and no api is going to change that...

stop worrying about DX12...its not console related...never was...

GameNameFame3316d ago

Absolutely nothing on X1.

Even in the quote, it says PC. Not xbox.

Ofc desperate logic makes that huge jump.

donthate3316d ago

@Kleptic :

I smell BS here. Why do you think the Xbox One SDK will not benefit from DX 12?

DX 12 is a major improvement intended for Windows 10, as such I believe there are major features that are not available yet. It is all completely within reason to believe Xbox One operates with DX 11 with major modifications to emulate DX 12 especially when DX 12 isn't releasing until end of this year, at least 2 years after the Xbox One release.

Even here we see major difference in performance on a low end graphics cards at over 200% gain and Brad Wardell who confirmed to be working on Xbox One game with DX 12 has repeatedly mentioned his huge graphical performance increase.

Xbox One is built with DX 12 in mind, and is getting the core of Windows 10. It is remarkable what major optimization from worlds top experts can do. It is all falling in place!

Sir_Simba3317d ago

Not once the article mentioned xbox, but i aint surprised its you.
Xbox will benefit from DX12 but stop pretending like its gonna make everything better all the sudden, DX12 just like vulkan will have its own limitation.

thrust3317d ago

What do you mean make everythin better is great now!

imt5583317d ago

Where is Xbox One in that article????

Lennoxb633317d ago

Oh so we're blind now? The article clearly has the words console and PC in it.

Software_Lover3317d ago

There is always a handicap somewhere.

TheCommentator3317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

Yeah, in the minds of people who think XB1 won't benefit from DX12 at all. Even if it only sees 30% of the increase the pc does, that's still a 150-200% increase in draw calls.

Edit: When talking about XB1, MS always states we'll see about a 20-30% increase in performance but compared to what, XB1's current state or that of PC's benefits? Politicians tend to omit details like this in order to downplay certain aspects of topics they discuss in the same way. This intentionally leads to false assumtions and keeps the truth secret no matter what information leaks out, protecting the NDA in this case.

christocolus3317d ago

This is great news. we will also be getting the first full DX12 games this holiday according to Phil Spencer.

christocolus3317d ago

@Jerome

Huh? What happens in 6 months?

UltraNova3317d ago

@chris

Half life 3 comes out! Hot damn!!

Bigpappy3317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

Let the downplay begin! LOL, DX12 is boss. That API is the biggest upgrade you can give your PC. There is no hardware that can net you those types of gains. The fact that it improves old hardware that was around long before DX12 was even conceived, to that extent, is very, very impressive and very telling.

I am so intrigued to see what this API means for X1 and is ESRAM. Does the bandwidth increased by ESRAM now operate at optimum? What about tiled Resources and those other two enhancements all combined? Is it a little difference or a huge difference? What will these new draw-calls and enhancements do in terms of new features? What does it translate to in terms of Graphic's, Resolution, FPS, Hololens, VR, physics, AI... If you are not paying close attention and sitting on the edge of your seat hopping to see and hear more, I wish I were as strong as you. These questions are consuming my free brain cells. I want answers now!

PrinterMan3317d ago

There is no hardware that can net you those types of gains?????? You are kidding right? No really.

kraenk123317d ago

You're right...it's a revelation for PC gaming. It won't do much for XB1 though.

kingduqc3317d ago

XBONE has been handicapped from the beginning from a low ass gpu..

NuggetsOfGod3317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

Pcftw! Hbm ftw!

Apus will get a boost but nothing in comparison to a gtx 960. Or two cards unifying their vram.

That intel integrated gpu got a good boost but the outcome is still to low for my taste.

If a gtx titan can get 400%+ boost then I can't wait for r9 380x & 390x!

Pc golden age part 2 incoming.

I will ve learning Vulkan but dx12 is no joke.

Plus free windows and xbl? Pfft..

Before anyone gets carried away, the article refers only to PC.

OT: It's a bit of a pain you have to buy Win 10 to get the Api update. Windows is usually crap 'til MS've had time to respond to all the release bugs.

Edit: Too late. *smfh*

Lennoxb633317d ago

Two things

1.You don't have to buy Windows 10 during the first year.

2.This article isn't just talking about PC. It's talking about DX12 on different devices.

CYCLEGAMER3317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

@lostdjinn
With todays technology software is used to make hardware run more efficiently. Do you really think that the api will make MS cell phones, tablets, and computers run better, but do nothing for the xbox (a Microsoft product)?? I guess the xbox has a dx12 blocker in it huh???

TheCommentator3317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

I like that a crappy laptop saw a 229% increase but people are still in denial that a system designed to run DX12 will see no benefits.

Don't forget to mention that Brad Wardell spreads lies about DX12 benefits on XB1. You know him right? He's the only person AMD quoted in their presentation on DX12 capabilities. AMD chose 3 of his quotes over using companies like Epic and Crytec but he's got no credentials, right?

LostDjinn3317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

To the above. So a low level api is going to replace a low level api and give massive gains?

The article mentions "consoles" by extention. Meaning PCs are holding back consoles (Bullcrap may I say) because of a lack of low level access . What devices are you talking about?

Now please, show me proof of this meaningful boosting of the 'bones efficiency due to dx12. Any proof? At all? How about a quote, direct from an MS employee?

That's just it. You can't. Phill Spenser came out and announced the opposite. No large increases in anything dx12/bone related. Tell me. Is Phil lying too?

Edit: It really should be shocking that a certain "fan..." base relies on misinformation and deception so heavily. It's not but it should be.

3317d ago
CYCLEGAMER3317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

@lostdjin
Your screen name speaks volumes...lol

I do not think that anyone expects the xbox one to all of a sudden be on par with a high end PC, I do not think that people believe DX12 is going to give xbox users 4k resolutions at 120fps, THAT would be a "dramatic" difference.

Have you also been brainwashed into believing that 800/900p is a significant difference from 1080p?? I own both of these consoles and I can tell you that there is no negligible difference between the two, which renders the differences insignificant to the average person. THAT is what Phil is referring to.

Every developer is not going to take full advantage of dx12. Some will take the time to code perfectly for the API and some will not.

Phil's job is to manage, and managing expectations is what he is doing here. Gamers are a passionate/sensitive group of individuals, and if he promises significant differences in dx12 and every game doesn't have that "significant boost", then Phil and MS will again be called liars. So how is that good for their brand?

Stiffler3317d ago

@LostDjinn "Edit: It really should be shocking that a certain "fan..." base relies on misinformation and deception so heavily. It's not but it should be."

Oh boy, thank you for ending your two quality posts by summing up practically every fanboy like yourself on this site.

You have the nerve to talk about MISINFORMATION after spouting drivel like you just did above?? The fact is that DX12 WILL benefit X1 because MS designed it around DX12. end of.

Lies lies lies and spin. You and GameNameFame are one in the same. Pathetic, the lot of you.

'SMFH'

JasonKCK3317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

You anti DX12 people must be pretty desperate to deny what was said in the news. I mean it was right there in your face, yet you still deny it. It reminds me of kids who put fingers in their ears and say "I can't hear you". Why are some of you people so threatened by DX12?

kraenk123317d ago

Noone is threatened by DX12. The PC guys will finally will get their long awaited improvements and PS4 will continue to be superior as it was designed with a low level API right from the start and will only improve on that further.

samchez773317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

I need it badly. I have a CPU bottleneck on my PC. Mantle was a disappointment. BF4 performed WORSE with it. Far worse.

JasonKCK3317d ago

What does the PS4 have to do with this?

fiveby93317d ago

I did not read anything in that article about X1 tests. It is inferred that DX12 will boost X1 performance but these tests were clearly done on pc hardware. Does X1 use a modified DX11 today? I am not sure what API X1 uses frankly. But I think MS is intentionally not over or understating DX12 performance benefits to X1. Surely the MS marketing department does not want dispel any myths on potential X1 benefits with DX12. They have said little directly on X1 and DX12 thus letting the rumor perpetuate that X1 will also see similar improvements as PC. Why would they want to undermine sales now if the benefits just aren't there? Time will tell.At the end of the day the hardware in this generation is pretty static for both PS4 and X1. An API improvement on both companies part will improve performance. Don't expect either company to not try to push the envelope through the lifespan of this generation. Let's not delude ourselves that an API improvement will be one sided and change MS's fortunes as Sony can also improve their API's.

christocolus3317d ago

Did you actually read the article? your comment about windows 10 says alot about how much you actually know about DX12. smh

LostDjinn3317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

I've read it twice. Before and after it was updated. Where am I wrong?

All infomation is based on pc. Period. As for win 10, how else do you get dx12 for pc? No. I'm genuinely interested. As far as disussion on how an api works. Ready any time you are chuckles.

Now for the rest of you...got any of the proof I asked for yet? No? Funny that.

Edit: chris, you work for MS (going by you comment history). Where's the evidence? I mean you approved this piece. Surely you can justify your perpetuation of this farce. Yes?

TheCommentator3317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

@LostDjinn

How do you get a benchmark for something that's not on the console yet? You can't.

How do you quantify Phil's vague statement that XB1 won't see the same benefits as PC? Less than 600%, but how much less? You can't tell me that either.

How do you measure Phil stating that DX12 will make XB1 better at doing what it was designed to be good at? Noone knows what XB1 is designed to be good at, but seeing as it was designed around DX12 it'll probably be good at that.

Where's your proof there won't be decent improvements to XB1 besides months old statements from Phil clouded in ambiguity? You have nothing concrete either but recent information seems to indicate you're wrong.

Edit: AMD is as credible as MS. Nothing Brad has stated has been proven false either. Both say XB1 will improve and neither has been discredited by MS.

brads43317d ago

All DX12 changes apply to XBOX ONE as well.

Also Windows 10 is a FREE UPGRADE for anyone with Windows 7 and forward.

i need to build a rig, but don't know where to start, I want one for multi plat gaming so my ps4 can be used for exclusives. got 1,300 on hand but dont know where to start :( lol

Blackleg-sanji3317d ago

Don't feel bad I'm in the same boat the folks at neogaf Will help though that's who I've been asking

Pandamobile3316d ago

Neogaf is toxic.

If you want support for building a PC, reddit.com/r/buildapc is probably the best place to start.

Khajiit863317d ago (Edited 3317d ago )

Did it about a month ago. Its totally worth it. For $1000 you can build a bad a$$ rig. Built my first one and only researched for couple weeks after having no prior knowledge about it.

Check Neweggs build guide on youtube.
https://www.youtube.com/wat...

http://www.pcpartpicker.com... - IS AMAZING

http://www.tomshardware.com... - Sign up and ask on the forums for any kind of help.

I got an i54690k processor and GTX 970 reference card.

I totally recommend it. Then check game prices on sites like G2A.com, GOG.com, and GreenManGaming.com. Once you see the prices, theres no going back unless its exclusive.

Heres 1 I just built on PCPartPicker.com. Its almost identical to my build except that one has a better motherboard.

You can use that build and tweak it how ever you want. I have that case and I love it, but there is a ton to choose from.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/G...

Khajiit863317d ago

No problem, glad I could help. I was a noob to all this a couple months ago. and my PS4 has been collecting dust since, until I updated today and go pick up Bloodborne tomorrow.

Also keep an eye on HumbleBundle.com
I got 10 games there for $15 (Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs, Kane and Lynch collection, Deus Ex everything edition, Thief, Murdered: Soul Suspect, Hitman Absolution, and more) Then you can sell the keys you wont use on G2A and get money for a game you do want. I sold Deus Ex, Hitman, Sleeping Dogs, and Kane and Lynch collection and got the $15 back and bought 4 games I wanted.

LexHazard793317d ago

Check TomsHardware, will help you. Also tons of build vids on Youtube.

Software_Lover3317d ago

Find the best cpu for your money and start from there. Go to Toms hardware and look at the charts or ask around. It's probably gonna be an i5.

traumadisaster3317d ago

Tomshardware.com a must, they have a system building marathon series of articles that does a fantastic job.
200 cpu
400 gfx card
25 case
100 motherboard
100 power supply unit
100 hard drive
25 disc drive
Old win disc,keyboard and mouse

vallencer3317d ago

Use reddit as well. They are really helpful in the pc area. People typically use pcpartpicker.Com and get a build up then post it with ideas on what could be better.

Dinkis3317d ago

I like pricewatch.com for my parts. They have boatloads of vendors to choose from and great prices. Been using that site for years

Something about recreating old school graphics in an era of HD high poly photo realism just hits a spot. I'm not nostalgic cause I mostly played GameCube and GB/A, but it's a visual style that gets over looked even by indies.

Definitely a fan project. Terrible hand animations. Some characters have very bad body proportions. Some look like little kids in adult bodies. Some have short arms, small head, big hips and so on.

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?
