Seriously if there is a day one patch why not just include it in the game?

BitbyDeath3320d ago

It'll be for changes made after the game went gold, why make these changes after the game went gold? Games are never perfect, even if it were delayed a year they can always find something else to change.

That is the nature we live in these days. Generally devs only stop enhancing a game after release is due to moving onto the next project/DLC, otherwise they'd keep fixing it up forever if it provided said income.

NeoGamer2323320d ago (Edited 3320d ago )

I'll pre-qualify my comment with I expect this to be an amazing game and I love what I've seen so far...

BUT...

Adding online functionality is not a patch... That is a feature they did not include in the gold version of the game...

And improving performance... Ummmm... I am sure they knew there were performance issues before it went gold...

To me...

Saying a game is gold with performance issues and no online functionality is not a completed game in my definition of a gold game. I run software development teams and if I told my client's the software was gold without key features and known performance issues I would be fired. It should've probably been delayed a month.

But, gamers seem to think this is fine for some reason and keep buying games shipping with massive day one patches... It's like buying a car and the dealer telling you it needs a day one fix when you buy it so that it can perform properly and drive on the highway. That would really instill confidence in your purchase wouldn't it?

eyeDEVOUR3320d ago

@neo

im sure the online function was there when it went gold.. its the fact that games wont let you access online capabilities unless you have the latest patch so that everyones game is compatable with each other.. the patch is probably for performance and bugs

XBLSkull3320d ago

Excited for the game but don't think anyone wants to see "Day 1 patch improves game performance"

as in "we shipped this game knowing it has performance issues"

UltraNova3319d ago

@Neo and XBLSkull

If you are so worried about the game's performance don't buy it, we wont hold it against you(if you own a ps4 that is) ;-)

OT:

I have no issue with day 1 patches as long as I can play the whole game afterwards without a hitch.

MasterCornholio3319d ago (Edited 3319d ago )

@XBLSKULl

"as in "we shipped this game knowing it has performance issues""

Your suggesting that the game will be broken at launch.

Nice try but that won't happen. Most games are released at launch with patches that improve performance. But that doesn't mean those games are broken. This isn't UniSoft that's making the game.

Anyways like ultra said. If you hate the game so much dont buy it. I'm pretty sure someone who respects FromSoft will buy you copy of the game.

Taero3319d ago (Edited 3319d ago )

@NeoGamer

It's not that the online functionality wasn't finished or broken, it's to stop people who get the game before street date being able to access it, the ability will be there, just locked out with the patch being the unlock. Also once the game is being pressed, packaged, and shipped a month before release they're not just sat twiddling their thumbs wondering what to start work on next.

They're still busy tweaking, finding new minor issues and fixing them so that when you and I put the disc in on day 1 we don't see any of those, if they'd caught the ones in this day 1 patch a month ago and put them on the disc then most likely they would have just found other areas of optimization.

People like to rag on newer games for always coming with day 1 patches etc but the simple fact is (outside of shoddy coding) games are just more complicated, bigger, more detailed, more tech techniques, better AI, more items, more interactions, more unintended consequences when that guy from pathing accidentally breaks the AI of an NPC from a few areas over etc.

aCasualGamer3319d ago

I'm all for day one patches that fixes the games performance and bugs, as long as the patches aren't mandatory and big in file size.

The one thing i hate about them is the fact that i have to wait 30-40 minutes on some of them, the first time you put in the disc and can't wait to play the game. That's unacceptable.

If they want to release patches, i'm all for it. I understand why they are there. Hopefully alot of devs start releasing options in the game to patch them or not, so that it isn't mandatory.

nix3319d ago

As much as i love Bloodborne, I hate day one patches and DLCs that comes with the games which unlocks after paying for it.

I pre ordered my game off PSN, so that's 41GB and again I'll have to download extra to play the game. I hope sony isn't releasin 2.5 update on the same day. I'll feel devastated.

There's a few weeks between when it went Gold to when it releases. Instead of delaying the game which would push it back and mess with logistics, you fine tune last minute work and release it later. They want the game to release on the original date while still being able to polish it up. If during crunch time you realize it's just not polished enough there's a little extra time to make everything right.

It would be like turning in an Essay on the due date but being able to submit a better conclusion soon after. Not only is it on-time, but it's even better by the time it's actually graded.

SamPao3320d ago (Edited 3320d ago )

Because it's already gone gold

sashimi3320d ago

Last i checked it took time to print and ship games to stores thats why. Unless you're implying they had the patch done before going gold.

LamerTamer3320d ago (Edited 3320d ago )

It only takes a few weeks to ship a game after going gold right? It takes much longer I would imagine to fix bugs and add features. First you need to know the bugs, then you need to research what is causing the bugs, then you need to code a fix for the bugs, then you need to test the bug fixes to see if they worked. Then you need to test the game after you fixed the bugs to make sure you didn't break something else while messing with the code. I would say that would take a couple of months. Since the patch is available at day one that means they started the bugfix process probably at least a month BEFORE the game went "gold" (more like zinc these days).

Conclusion: they knew the game was defective at least a few weeks before they decided to push it out anyway. They are KNOWINGLY rushing out busted junk just to get the money sooner and meet arbitrary release dates made months earlier. They just use the internet as a crutch (no internet, no working/complete games for you!).

The problem FOR US is that imagine if you upgrade your HDD or it fails. Now you need to re-download EVERY patch for all of your games (until they take them down, then you are stuck with the broken version)! Do some math and many will have HUNDREDS of gigs of patches to download! That is insane and most ISPs have data caps.

@Xol_Reigns

3GB not bad? WTF! it is TERRIBLE! (it will take me hours to get) it should be zero if they did it right. 3GB is like the size of many whole xbox 360 games! That is allot of bugs and issues. Honestly the game is probably released 2 months too early as you will see as it keeps getting more and more patches. It SUCKS and is very annoying, I am getting tired of it. I won't buy it for a couple of months. By then maybe they will have fixed it.

XeroTheory3320d ago

@LamerTamer

First. You're neglecting the entire production process of a game once its gone gold. How long do you think it takes to press however many thousands of copies they're releasing? Printing all the artwork, sealing the game, and then distributing to hundreds if not thousands of companies looking to sell it, who in turn, have to allocate and distribute their inventory to their hundreds (again, if not thousands, like Gamestop or Best Buy) of store fronts. It is not an overnight process by any means.

Second. We don't even know what bugs they fixed. "Performance issues" is a VERY broad term that could mean anything from entire collision detection overhauls, to something as simple as tweaking something like stamina regeneration. Based on the footage I've seen so far, both official and from people who already have it, I'd say the problems are few and far between.

Third: If my harddrive fails, yes, I'd have to redownload any patches/DLC/entire games, but its not like anyone in their right mind would sit there and redownload every last patch for every last game they own. Personally, I'd go on a game-by-game basis. And you can always play the game without the patch if you don't feel like waiting for a couple gigs to download.

And finally: 3 gigs is nothing in this day and age. DVD-Rs are becoming the floppy disk of this generation as Blu-Rays reach higher and higher capacity levels. Dead Rising 3 had a 13 gig patch, and the Master Chief Collection had one weighing in at 20. Digital games have been a fairly consistent 40-60+ gigs, and they aren't getting any smaller, with future games like Star Citizen tickling the triple digit mark.

vastolorde6663319d ago

3gb day one patch.....this is a 2/10...

From software relies too much on day one patch on bloodborne.when used correctly like in assasins creed or battlefield it brings the overall experience into a memorable one.

The game is too hard. For a $60 game i would expect to be able to finish the game to get my money's worth.I can't even get out of the dream world.I paid all that money to be killed by the first enemy, unacceptable.

40 hours is too long.don't refer to the previous argument. I dnt have the time to finish the game.

This exclusive has failed to deliver.whats the next sony exclusive so i get prepared for it

Taero3319d ago

I don't...I...where's the /s tag o.O okay I deleted my comment, I'm pretty sure this is a satire comment so well done, almost hit post and looked like a moron, kudos on that.

GoGoGadge73319d ago

Pretty hard to update a game sitting in a box on some truck/shelf waiting to be sold.

That's going to take half a day for me. Hopefully I can play offline while I wait for it to download, or yes it is going to excruciating

Hellsvacancy3319d ago

Can you not take your PS4 to a friends house who has a better internet speeds, I let my friend use my connection from time to time because he's is too slow

maybelovehate3320d ago

Hopefully they will have most of the issues fixed. 5 more days. I can't wait.

Forn3320d ago

It's nice that people have been able to play through the entire game without any major reported issues before the patch release too. For certain game releases that's not the case, even after being patched multiple times.

Umbasa3320d ago

I can not wait, it's really just dragging on at this point. Have not been this stoked for a release since the first Dark Souls.

The 7 Best Souls-Like Games - Mastering the Challenge

The Souls-like genre remains popular, along with FromSoftware's classics there are many contenders. But which are the best Souls-like games?

toxic-inferno18d ago

Hmm... In my opinion, the 7 best are the 6 made by FromSoftware (DeS, DS1, DS2, DS3, BB and ER), then Lies of P. But each to their own.

kevco3318d ago

Still DS1? You don't feel it's been surpassed yet?

Demon's Souls has the remake of course, but DS1 has surely been outdated?

Smellsforfree18d ago

I think that the DS1 remake is better looking than DS2. The interior lighting matched with the low resolution textures in DS2 is very garish, IMO.

Besides graphics, what do you mean by DS1 being "outdated"? I'm someone who played through Elden Ring and just recently played through the DS series, and as far as gameplay went, there were all very similar.

Cacabunga18d ago

I haven’t played many but Bloodborne and NIOH1 are on top of my list.. had a blast with these 2

toxic-inferno18d ago

For world design and interconnectedness (that's a word, right?) DS1 is yet to be beaten.

9 Years Later, Does Bloodborne Deserve All The Praise It Gets?

Saad from eXputer: "Almost a decade later, it's time to take the nostalgia goggles off and accept that Bloodborne has long been surpassed by its successors."

jznrpg20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Yes, yes it does. It’s still a great game. Elden Ring isn’t better just different and a bit easier . I like that you have to be aggressive but smart in Bloodborne

thorstein20d ago

I literally replayed it recently and it's better than I remember. I think it's like going back to a beloved book and noticing things I hadn't before.

raWfodog20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Yo! I was getting ready to reply with the exact same four words you started with lol. Yes, I think Bloodborne has withstood the test of time and remains a great game. That’s why all the fans are hoping for a sequel someday. Hoping that we can catch that magic again with a new storyline.

Leeroyw20d ago

Yes. Just replayed it a few days ago. My first Platinum. And yes. I rage quitted so many times and called it BS too when I started. It's tight. The combat is amazing and the lore is rich.

GamingSinceForever19d ago

Elden Ring was easier? I don’t know about that at all. I remember leveling up in Bloodborne and breezing through it. In Elden Ring no matter how powerful I got I was still catching a beat down from every boss.

thorstein19d ago

That's due to scaling enemies. I remember not doing Haligtree untill near the end and having enemies withstand almost a full blast from Azur's Glintstone Staff Comet Azure. My level was quite high.

Melee characters are not fun in that game, especially for the Elden Beast.

MeteorPanda20d ago

Considering l did a run 2 months ago? Yes.

Bloodborne's Potential Remaster Continues To Be Sony's Biggest Missed Opportunity

"Sony is missing out on a hugely profitable opportunity by ignoring fan demands for a Bloodborne remaster and PC port," says Ahmed from eXputer.

thorstein48d ago (Edited 48d ago )

Bloodborne came out on the PS4. It is owned by From Software. What missed opportunity? I am sure the people at From Software know what they are doing. Especially since they are hiring devs instead of laying them off.

Maybe do an article about that instead of writing a hit piece on them acting like they don't know how to run their business.

48d ago
-Foxtrot47d ago (Edited 47d ago )

To be fair Hidetaka Miyazaki said in an interview

“Unfortunately, and I’ve said this in other interviews, it’s not in my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically. We simply don’t own the IP at FromSoftware.”

So the ball kind of is in Sonys court, it feels like a missed opportunity because it’s something people really want and Sony just hasn’t really been bothered to get it off the ground. There was rumours it was at one point but it all went silent.

Cacabunga46d ago (Edited 46d ago )

Sony has been missing nothing but opportunities for a few years now.. since GOW release, it’s worrying silence we’ve been getting..

As for Bloodborne, imo it would be too soon to release it because PS4 game still looks phenomenal..

Bloodborne REMAKE I think will be PS6 launch title by Bluepoint. I truly hope so! 2 gens later we can get the same wow effect as Demons Souls.

Eonjay46d ago

He is right because it is Sonys IP but a little further back he also explained that they only work on one game at a time. This means that From must also be available. In other words it could already be in the pipeline. Ecen if that is the case, it's still up to Sony to reveal it when they are ready. As ever, I prefer not to hear about it until it's about 3 to 6 months from releasing.

CrashMania47d ago (Edited 47d ago )

'Bloodborne came out on the PS4. It is owned by From Software'

Actually Sony owns the IP, same with Demon's Souls. I think they'd prefer if From did the work on any future of both of those though, but if Sony wanted to they could have those off to anyone else to work on them, like the DS remake.

thorstein47d ago (Edited 47d ago )

Yeah. Thanks for the info.

But I still think that remasters should wait a generation. And Blue Point did Demon's Souls which was superb.

It can be a huge risk. And I think Hidetaka Miyazaki hinted that it would be a PS6 title. I don't he has no say in what happens, it's a partnership.

--Onilink--46d ago

To be honest, if there is a remake/remaster (not that it needs one) I would prefer someone else to handle it, like they did with Demon Souls

From many perspectives From Soft is an amazing developer, BUT, on a technical level they are far from impressive, both in terms of dated visuals (again, on a technical level, not art/design) and usually poor performance.

And what is the point of a remake/remaster if not to provide a visual and performance enhancement to a game that already nailed the rest?

Michiel198946d ago

@thorstein what huge risk? Part of one of the most well known ip's in gaming nowadays, there's not much risk there when it comes to a remake.

thorstein46d ago

@Michiel

I meant remasters in general are a huge risk, not Bloodborne.

Bloodborne isn't, but I think it's going to be on PS6, like how Demon's Souls went from PS3 to PS5.

Sorry for the confusion.

Thorstein,

Wow, your post seems angry..relax it's an opinion.

And btw, it is on Sony, they have the exclusive right to the game, on top of that, they could have easily, at bare minimum, offered an official 60fps patch, with a few extras and charged people $10 to upgrade or $30-40 for new buyers.

I believe I saw an interview where , FromSoft said it was all up to Sony on a sequel and other dealing with the game.

A "hit peice", that serious huh?..relax lol.

thorstein46d ago (Edited 46d ago )

Wow you seem angry. I responded to crash 2 days ago about the remaster and who did it.

Why do you care what other people think in a moment about some journalism. Calm down, buddy, it's just my opinion. From 3 days ago.

Edit: I just went back through my comments and found 2 where I call out the author in the past month. Wow, I'm a rageaholic.

It will be a launch title on PS6 just like the remake of Demon's Souls for PS5 launch

OhReginald47d ago

Sony realizes people will flock to buy ps6s for a bloodborne remake. Easy money.

Rumored it’s slated for PS6 launch. Some say PS5 Pro. Who knows ?

P_Bomb46d ago

Highly requested, unfortunately neglected.

Some say we didn’t need TLOU2 remake but that was a PS4 game and now we need a BB remake but that was a PS4 game. We send mixed signals
