Titanfall 2 confirmed, coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC

Respawn founder and CEO Vince Zampella has confirmed Titanfall 2 is in development and will be released on multiple platforms.

Speaking to IGN ahead of tonight's BAFTA Game Awards, Zampella, whose title is nominated in three categories, acknowledged the game's existence for the first time.

Relientk773325d ago

Sweet I hope it has a campaign to go along with the multiplayer, definitely wanna try it

AngelicIceDiamond3325d ago

They might do a campaign.

But I wouldn't be surprised if they stuck with MP only and improving that.

If that's the case TF2 better be HUGE then.

nX3325d ago (Edited 3325d ago )

It really needs bigger maps (10v10 at least) and I wouldn't mind if they'd remove the stupid bots.

Funny how he openly regrets making TF1 Xbox exclusive though.

WCxAlchemist3325d ago (Edited 3325d ago )

Get rid of bots

alot more weapons instead of a handful

abillity to fully customize ur Titan not jus stickers you cant see

Larger actual player count

alot more attachments for weapons

Pilot classes that actually means something

Titan classes that means something not big slow Titan, balance Titan and Fast but weak Titan.Jus lazy

More creative Maps

Lastly a damn campain to tell the story

@Mr Pumble TF is NOT MS biggest exclusive LoL heard of Halo or Gears of War Lmao

Mr Pumblechook3325d ago (Edited 3325d ago )

PR-wise this is a loss for Microsoft as they have now lost their biggest third-party Xbox One exclusive. However before the dedicated fans make a mountain out of a molehill, going multiplatform is actually a great thing for the Titanfall franchise. More new customers means Respawn will have potentially more profits so can get more investment in advance to build a better game.

I remember in early 2014 Titanfall was being heavily promoted by Microsoft everywhere as the game that would help them get a lead over the PS4. Reviews were good but it didn't help the Xbox One get that elusive NPD lead and it meant less people got on board with the franchise at the start.

"if you're saying what would we have liked to have done? The opportunity to be multiplatform could have made it even more significant for us."
Zampella's comments suggest he was pretty upset that EA cut him out of the loop and released the game only on Xbox 360 and XBO.

vishmarx3325d ago Show
AngelicIceDiamond3325d ago

@Bloodborn. I agree bigger player count is a must.

Well the Bots are just cannon fodder. They don't add or take away from the game but you can kill them to add points.

Though the last time I played it the bots seemed to have gotten tougher, strangely enough.

They're just filler for the game to make it seem like the worlds were bigger. Plus they did have "story characters" in the game but they were bots lol.

I don't mind them.

"Funny how he openly regrets making TF1 Xbox exclusive though."

Where did he make that statement?

Neonridr3325d ago (Edited 3325d ago )

@Angelic - he didn't. Bloodborn is just trying to stir up trouble. Zampella says he wishes he could have made the game multiplatform, but for business reasons, couldn't and he was ok with that.

What developer wouldn't want their game on as many platforms as possible? Time constraints, budgets and publishing rights sometimes prevent developers from doing whatever they want though.

Mr Pumblechook3325d ago

@WCxAlchemist Hi WC! Of course Halo and Gears are bigger than Titanfall, but they are FIRST-party exclusives which means Microsoft owns them.

However Titanfall 1 is a THIRD-party exclusive, meaning it's owned by another company EA/Respawn. Sunset Overdrive was not a bigger third-party exclusive than Titanfall.

nX3325d ago

^"When asked whether or not the team wishes they could change anything about the original product, Respawn COO Dusty Welch said, "Platform for me comes to mind right away."

That was his first thought, he could've said countless things yet he chose to say this right away... moments after announcing a sequel - are you telling me this is not regret in it's purest form?

AngelicIceDiamond3325d ago

@Blood I don't think that's regret. They wanted as many ppl to play this. MS had the back end cloud to supply them with (I know cloud talk)

Plus Respawn as of a year ago was a small studio partially funded by EA and MS. They easily have enough resources to put this game on PS4.

Its not a regret when MS supplied with everything they needed. They just wish it ended up on PS4.

Spotie3325d ago Show
TheCommentator3325d ago (Edited 3325d ago )

@MrPumblecock

Respawn initially said the reason Titanfall was exclusive was that the studio was too small to make it multiplatform, and they wanted to focus on making the game as good as possible on one console. They even said they wanted the game to be on all consoles at that time. It was Respawn's choice, not EA's.

Gazondaily3325d ago (Edited 3325d ago )

Yes!! Now we can focus less on hating it and more on the game itself. Titanfall is amazing.

Titanfall 2 can be incredible. So much potential.

Cream3325d ago

The game is solid.
I don't need a campaign!

PONTIAC08G8GT3325d ago

Single player is not needed. This is a game that is made for MP. I enjoyed the MP campaign.

Does anyone understand why the bots are in the game? Not everyone is a hardcore, put in 100 hours, win or go home type of player. The casual player enjoys being able to go online and feel like they did something. They do serve some function. They will blow up your arc mines, take down your titans shields, you can hack them to run around with you, killing them can reduce your build and titan core ability. Everyone thinks they just stand there and serve no purpose but they actually add to the gameplay. I'd like to see 8v8, 10v10 is the max. As it is now, when 10 titans are on the map at once it's overwhelming and you cant really move in some maps. But the small maps are great. Making the maps bigger, removing the bots, and upping the player count isn't exactly a recipe for success.

nix3325d ago

BOOOM!!!

we all saw it coming though..

LexHazard793325d ago

Mr.Pumblechook,

I don't think this is a huge loss for MS like you say. I agree with you tho that it better off multi platform. I wonder if it will have cross play.
When it comes over to PS4 it will easily be one of its better fps, imo.

Palitera3325d ago (Edited 3325d ago )

@Bloodborn

He actually said that releasing it as a MS exclusive was the right choice.

But, yes, some people can't deal very well with facts.

-

Also, what is all this talk about cloud computing? They are not making Titanfall for PS4. It is Titanfall 2.

Not that I fall for that talk, but you guys are talking pure non-sense. It is a different game on the same franchise.

LonDonE3324d ago Show
WelkinCole3324d ago (Edited 3324d ago )

@angel.

It is regret for many reasons.

Titanfall had a chance to establish itself early in this console gen as a huge franchise that can rival destiny, watch dogs and going up against COD for EA.

In terms of establishment they have failed compare to these other major franchise simply because it is not on the dominate console this gen. To be fair I do believe like many analyst did believe that the X1 would be leading this gen. A big gamble that they lost on and rightly so regret now.

Acti and Ubi got it right for both destiny and Watch dogs. How you establish a new multi-plat franchise is by having it early on a console gen and have it on as many platforms as possible.

This will give you the best footing for your franchise going forward for the rest of the gen like now for both Destiny and Watch dogs as they are both established on all major platform including the dominate one which happens to be the PS4.

Not only Titanfall will have to establish itself on the PS4 but also they will compete with these other established 3rd party franchise and not to mentioned Sony's own established 1st party that will start releasing 1-3 years after launch.

There is no point it trying to sugarcoat it. EA messed up a huge opportunity to have another IP that would have a good chance of competing with Acti COD.

Crimzon3324d ago

This is great news. I've played some Titanfall on PC and it's definitely one of the best games released so far this generation. A lot of creativity and innovation in that game, and it's just genuinely fun and enjoyable to play as well. It was frustrating being limited to such a small community on PC (it seems a lot of PC gamers don't like using Origin, which the game was exclusive to) but it's one of few games from recent memory that truly felt like it was using the extra power to do something unique and innovative.

I can't wait for the sequel to hit PS4, this game will be up there alongside Uncharted 4 and Metal Gear Solid V as one of my most anticipated games :D I couldn't care less about the inclusion of a singleplayer mode either, I prefer a focus on multiplayer since that will always have greater replayability, and the competitive and cooperative multiplayer in the first game is really enjoyable.

Really looking forward to seeing what they do with Titanfall 2, they have such a strong foundation to build on.

kingfetish173324d ago

Sweet! I get to play against more Japanese & European players with the PS4 version!

bouzebbal3324d ago

to me they could have kept it on x1 and PC. What i saw of the first one didn't catch me at all.
Out of those who say it's amazing how many are playing it today?

MysticStrummer3324d ago

@Angelic - Yeah I bet they stick with MP mainly, maybe have a lengthy co-op campaign but I wouldn't expect a SP story mode. Who knows though?

@Neonridr - "Zampella says he wishes he could have made the game multiplatform, but for business reasons, couldn't"

That's regret. He wishes it could have been multiplatform. How is that not regret? It's not downing XB1 or praising another platform, but he wishes the first game had been multiplat.

ctmaudi3324d ago

Im sorry, but have to say it. TF2 will always be Team Fortress 2 :). Titanfall needs a new abbreviation, like TTF/TTF2.

badz1493324d ago

Multiplat for the next one ha? No campaign, no buy from me though. Although crappy campaigns like BF3 and BF4 are also highly indesirable.

XisThatKid3324d ago

Thought this was already a thing. Considering the property rights between EA and MS court stuff last year.

UnHoly_One3324d ago (Edited 3324d ago )

I loved Titanfall, but all the requests I'm seeing here are basically asking for the game to NOT be Titanfall.

People want it to be CoD with Mechs, apparently, which is exactly what they made fun of Titanfall for being in the first place.

majorw23324d ago

Respawn originally planned to release the game on PS3 and PS4 also, they chose the Source game engine specifically to allow that:

Respawn chose to build Titanfall on the Source game engine early in their production cycle due to their developers' familiarity and its ability to maintain 60 frames per second on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. In an interview, Respawn software engineer Richard Baker said the company chose Source since Portal 2 performed well on the PlayStation 3 with it, and the console was "the riskiest platform in current gen".

I played Titanfall on the PC. Its a fun shooter, but I would have enjoyed it a lot more if it had an actual campaign story.

I dont think anyone is surprised that Titanfall 2 is breaking exclusivity with xbox and coming to PS4. It was pretty much hinted at for months.

this was always going to happen. just look at COD advanced warfare which sold 6 million on the PS4 alone which is almost double what Titanfall sold on PC, 360 and Xbox One at only 4 million. not that it matters as Titanfall is the definition of overhype. the game had more hype than GTAV and only 4 million ? lol.

rainslacker3324d ago

I would have played it on PC, but I don't care for MP games. If it had a SP campaign I would have given it a shot. Otherwise, no story in a mech game, well that just makes it a FPS with vehicles and a different viewpoint....and FPS is probably my least favorite genre. I do love mechs though.

DLConspiracy3324d ago

The only reason exclusivity existed is because MS swooped in to save the project from not happening. It was always planned to be on all platforms. I wish it had. Unfortunately though when PS didn't get back to Respawn about porting a ps4 version. It was because PS was being secretive about their console. By that time it was too late. They even talked about a Vita version too. Respawn needed money to finish the game and MS helped. That's where exclusivity came from. It probably would have been timed exclusive for Xbox one had Sony gotten back.

Its all in the "Final Hours of Titanfall" you can pick it up online for cheap if not free. I believe you can still get it on Steam.

It better have more guns to unlock that's why I stopped playing the first one.

You have like 3 assault rifles in the game if not less I think the other is just an smg. An coming from the guys that made Modern warfare 1 that is a huge disappoint.

xDHAV0K24x3325d ago

as long as it's not like COD then it can work

Cream3325d ago (Edited 3325d ago )

yeah, if its not broken then don't fix it.
Solid game. I hated the bots at first but it works well with the design.

Put an option to play without bots... give people the power to vote! I'm voting bots. The maps are beautiful and large. very little spawn kills and the bots helps with bringing campers out in the open. Also gives you something to do when the action is on the other side of the board.

My wish list is the same with all games. Get the biggest dedicated servers as possible and the best hit recognition out there.

In a year of horrible titles that relied on gamers to do their Product Testing. This game Rocks.

The bar is raised. Step up to Titan Fall standards.

PONTIAC08G8GT3325d ago

How many guns do you honestly need?

-full auto carbine
-single shot carbine
-3 round burst carbine
-light machine gun
-2 smg's
-3 pistols, 1 auto pistol, 1 heavy pistol, 1 auto target pistol
-1 shotgun
-semi automatic sniper rifle
-heavy sniper rifle

I mean, what's the point of 10 assault rifles that have barely any parity compared to the others? Do you need 10 sniper rifles? Look at BF, half the snipers have identical stats. You spend 50% of your time on foot and 50% in a titan. I don't think having a ton of guns is important. I'd rather see a bunch of attachments like different scopes for different ranges, muzzles that decrease recoil or increase range and accuracy, make a full auto carbine burst shot, have the shotgun shoot different types of ammo, stuff like that I feel would be more beneficial then choosing between a bunch of the same class of gun

PygmelionHunter3325d ago

Yeah, this is pretty cool. Been a while since I played an online shooter. Maybe this one convinces me to jump back into action.

Although, that would depend on whether Battlefront 3 delivers or not.

wakeNbake3325d ago

A campaign would indeed be nice as well as....
-Titan bodyshop
-More guns and attachments
-pilot customization
-removal of pointless AIs
-More titan chassis

AsheXII3325d ago

Ai's play a crucial role in Titanfall. If you replace AI's with human players then the battlefield would be so cluttered free parkour would suffer greatly. Titanfall needs to give room to breath to gamers, that means a balance between human and ai players.

PONTIAC08G8GT3325d ago

@AsheXII

Someone with a brain! Everyone says "remove the bots they are stupid." Have those people even played it? There is a mode where there are no bots. In other modes, the bots just help you get your titan quicker, or you can hack them. They do serve a purpose and add to the game. Essential? No, but useful.

ZombieKiller3325d ago

I might pick this up. I bought TF for xbox 360 and although it was awesome, I got really bored of it really quick. I was bored of COD too so I'm guessing there is no helping me in that realm.

Maybe it's just me, but I get bored of running around shooting people. I feel like I need my game to have more to it anymore.

Automatic793325d ago

Loved titanfall can't wait to play the sequel.

bradfh3325d ago

they need to bring 1st Titanfall to PS4

Kleptic3325d ago

^they really really don't...just a wast of resources that should be put towards the next title...

its dirt cheap on PC, and nearly any PC built after 2008 can run it...if you really feel like you're missing something, try the game time 7 day free thing on Origin...on a business laptop...

honestly...there are some ok ideas in place with it...but everything titanfall related needs to be focused on the next game, and dialing in a very huge increase in content...if it continues being a full retail game...

_-EDMIX-_3324d ago (Edited 3324d ago )

Don't get the disagrees. They sorta do if they want to get more sales from both sides for the rest of the series.

ie EA did port ME1 when they had time later on, which was the right call.

I see them porting it down the line and nothing really wrong with that as they can just get another team to port it, or hell bring those levels over to the PS4 as a show of good faith.

They are trying to sell a sequel to an audience that knows nothing of the first game.

Granted, its not impossible seeing how its just MP only, but it would be nice if they did as a show of good faith.

Kleptic3324d ago (Edited 3324d ago )

^dude...ME1?

are we talking about a different game?

TF1 has absolutely nothing story wise...nothing...There is a tutorial that gives a brief description of how guns and jumping works...and that this is a universe where huge mechanical mech things fight each other along side little infantry for w/e reason...

thats it...there are bot only scrimmages to get the hang of multiplayer...then mp with some bots, also...

thats the game...

ME1 is a freaking action/rpg focused on a huge story...ME1 eventually coming back to other platforms made sense, as it was 1/3rd of a story driven trilogy...

titanfall 2 only needs to have a similar tutorial as TF1, and maybe a brief voice over saying 'oh, all this mech war stuff happened once before fyi'...

Best thing for this franchise is to expand to PS4 & PC.

I enjoyed Titanfall for like 1-3 days, but it got old fast, even though it was a good game.

They have a good base to build from.

It's been on pc since day one.

die_fiend3325d ago

Only 3000 ppl play it on Xbone which is really low for a multiplayer only game, take a look online. That's worldwide...

I think respawn should abandon this franchise as no one is playing it - making it exclusive for Xbone means this game will never take off unfortunately. Even Destiny has a massive player base!

So Respawn, keep your generic shooter pap!

I didn't like my purchase of TitanFall because it didn't have a Campaign nor Horde (like) mode; until November for the Horde (like) mode released. I played it once & that's it.

2.)
I won't like TitanFall 2 because I'm sure it won't have Campaign Co-op as PS4 games can't do Campaign Co-op.

I expect more from shooters today. Responsible had better put their best foot forward on TitanFall 2.

Titanfall 2 might still use Azure anything less is a downgrade for x box 1 owners. EA servers will suffice but its not the same.

I have a feeling EA will slowly move away from origin and will support the x box 1 app on Windows 10

Azure potentially may still be available for PC and x box 1 owners through x box live this will coming to PC (win10) this year. With Microsoft giving windows 10 away for free for a year devs will see more gamers are switching over to the new OS.

In regards to this been multiplat have know issues with it. Microsoft bought the rights to one game there was never a deal for a second game.

rainslacker3324d ago

Did you know that Azure is available to PS4 games should the developer want to pay for it's service? Azure isn't an Xbox exclusive platform, far from it. There are plenty of cloud alternatives out there, but from everything I've heard, the cloud only offered lame AI, which could be done on any console or remote server.

spacewarrior13325d ago

where exactly does it say Titanfall 2 confirmed for PS4 ? Respawn said its multiplat but no PS4 confirmation. for all we know it could mean PC as a multiplat game. not that i care. keep that trash on Xbox One where it belongs.

LexHazard793325d ago

Well it already came out on Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC, so I'm assuming when he confirms multiplat it means PS4 aswell.

masa20093325d ago

The first Titanfall didn't sell that well, Evolve didn't sell that well.
It shows that, even though people don't necessarily finish them, they like the sense of value that a campaign brings to the table.

You can do a crappy story like Battlefield (except the first BFBC which was legit good), but you should do enough that people get the sense that there is one.

_-EDMIX-_3324d ago

I don't care for the series, but 4 million is not bad. To say it didn't sell that well....

What the hell is selling "well" to you? LMFAO!

25 million? You do understand that what they sold wasn't the norm, but it wasn't failure either.

4 million on a new IP is really, really good!

Most gamers have no damn clue what they are talking about when they talk about sales, they seem to think that the game needed 10 million to even been a mild success LOL!

InFamous barely cracked 2 million.....yet 4 games later LMFAO!

You sure it didn't sell "that well"? You sure you just don't know what your talking about?

It sold well enough clearly for a sequel to appear, I don't know what your standards are of selling "well" but its clear that are a bit cloudy...

Don't let Call Of Duty or GTA numbers tell you thats normal...

masa20093324d ago

Please, Infamous was NEVER a big seller. The previous game was a dud. It's not even that great of a series.

In Titanfall, we are talking about a huge game from the makers of COD, hyped as hell by EA, in the most popular genre on the market.
Comparisons with Infamous are absurd.

I never said that it sold bad, but it didn't sell THAT well.

_-EDMIX-_3324d ago (Edited 3324d ago )

"Comparisons with Infamous are absurd"

Nope.

They very much are just. What your trying to state is based on whether or not it sold "well".

The reality is, you don't actually know how much they put in this game, clearly the didn't put THAT much if its running on source engine with no campaign.

4 million is great for sales bud, I'm sorry but thats just it.

They didn't not spend MEGA MILLIONS on some beast engine, you don't know just how much they spent or seeked to received.

Expecting something and what was reviced has nothing to do with "selling well" consider if I "THINK" that GTAV should have sold 70 million not 45 million...that its a umm......bad sell or didn't sell "well"

Your saying this based on what you "think" not based on actual sales.

Sorry but 4 million is more then enough for what Titanfall actually ways, its better then enough as 700k many times is enough for a team to actually do a sequel...

Mindy you funny enough...it has a damn sequel. Turns out it must have done better then what you think.

Looks like they don't need 45 million to um..."sell well" lol

Dario_DC3324d ago

@ EDIMIX- So comparing a game that came out to a single platform with a user base of 20 million (now), around 8 at the time, to one that came out on 3! YES 3 platforms! Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC! User base around 200 million!

They could be talking about just this small project being multiplaform.

tgunzz3324d ago

There is no shock and awe here. TF was always meant to be multiplatform (they offered the 1st game to sony as well). Respawn wants to dethrone C.O.D. and you can't challenge its numbers without the help of both consoles... TF2 should be awesome as well, and if we get crossplay between xb and pc that will be wicked... We should see alot of refreshed comments about TF since its going muliplat on console... Game on!

Tapewurm3324d ago (Edited 3324d ago )

Definitely needs an OFFLINE playable campaign..... the "ONLINE ONLY" trend needs to end this gen.... always nice to go back and play a game once the servers have been shut down. Burned by MAG, Warhawk, and Socom Confrontation last gen...at least Starhawk & Socom 4 have offline playable campaigns.

Jalva3324d ago (Edited 3324d ago )

Why do you people need campaigns in every game? Especially when the game just doesn't need one whatsoever, it would be so incredibly generic... I hope they don't waste any time or resources on one for this game, the same goes for The Division.

Tapewurm3324d ago (Edited 3324d ago )

Gears of War's campaign was an absolute must.... the multiplayer was good and the campaign imo was better (opinions though...everybody has them)....it gives the game more value to me.... on the other hand....God of War had an amazing campaign until they added online and watered it down....not playing God of War online anymore, but do go back once in a while to play the originals for the story. The Last of Us...Best campaign in gaming some would say....the online is amazing.....you just need both in today's market.... TitanFall is dead online atm.... 2 needs a great campaign and great multiplayer online...again....what good is that disc when the servers are down, dead, or even worse closed? Prime example...when Socom 4 launched....Sony's servers were down for a while because they were hacked... I played through the Campaign on every difficulty and unlocked every offline trophy and when the networks were finally back up got the online trophies to platinum the game....would have sucked if the game would have been online only...would have had to wait for weeks to even play after the launch in that case.....plus ...playing through the campaign familiarizes you with how the game plays.....all the controls that you will need to be great at once you do venture online... lack of both is just nonsense.

Big_Game_Hunters3324d ago (Edited 3324d ago )

I would prefer they work on greatly expanding the multilayer offerings, larger mech variety would be a good start.

ShottyatLaw3324d ago

I certainly would not mind a campaign set in their universe. There is some potential there to tell an interesting story with some nice variety in gameplay.

I still believe the biggest addition needs to be proper consideration of the competitive market from day one. It took entirely too long to provide us with the options necessary to truly make the first game compatible with those seeking PvP challenge with balance and strategy.

The mechanics are fresh and solid. There is room for this franchise to sit alongside the other core FPS titles out there. I'm happy to see more gamers getting the chance to help grow the franchise.

They don't see the demand they see the extra money they can get with the fact there are pretty much double the ps4s out there than the xbone and how the ps4 software sales are pretty much always top on any game , look at the new Dragon Ball game , it's sold more on the ps4 than any other console and nearly more than them all combined.

^that's exactly what demand means, more demand = extra money.

I hope that you enjoy it as much I have.
The game is fun!

Never say never, I really didn't expect to ever see Space Marine 2 and 12 years later its almost here.
So there is still hope for all these games.

I've completed 5 of the games on the list, but the author forgot to include Advent Rising. It was supposed to be a trilogy, but it bombed hard, and the two sequels never got made. It was Mass Effect, a console generation before Mass Effect.

The game is buggy and unpolished, it needed a few more months of development, but the potential was there. At the end of the game, you have all these super abilities, I remember the stomp attack that created a shockwave being especially powerful.

I personally think days gone will recieve some sort of sequel at some point. I'm personally also hoping it's not the rumored multiplayer online stuff. I'd think most that enjoyed it would rather thisnto.

Sony needs to dust off Sly Cooper and Days Gone so needs a sequel two of my favorite Sony titles. Bulletstorm I love great game wish it also got a sequel. And I wish Namco would finally give Enslaved a sequel another great game.

A best all time mecha game list without Zone of the Enders even on the list is 100% crap to me. Worth saying twice though not intentional

Titanfall 2 Gets "???" New Mystery Mode Years After Release

A new Titanfall 2 mystery game mode called "???" added by Respawn has players buzzing with anticipation since it seems to hint at something.

Inverno210d ago

Apex mode where it deletes Titanfall 2 and turns it in to Apex so your last hopes of a sequel will be crushed for good.

raWfodog209d ago

LOL!! That’s exactly what they did. I’ve never played Apex. Is it good? It doesn’t look better than TF2 to me.

FinalFantasyFanatic209d ago

It's about par with any other team based shooter like Valorant or Fortnite, it's probably more of a mix of Valorant and PUBG if you want to know what game play is like. I'd rather have Titanfall 2 though, it's more fun for me than battle royale games.
