Xbox 360 On the Verge of Extinction?

Is the Xbox 360 on the verge of extinction? Owners of the popular Microsoft gaming system, Sony’s PlayStation 3, and other gaming platforms of the recent past are beginning to deal with a harsh reality. Good, about time.

There's been a nice overlap but now it's time to move on. Cross-gen development holds games back.

What was all that noise about not supporting previous gen consoles though? The OG Xbox got a lot of flack for it and MS are supporting it for almost 10 years now. I remember how many were saying how MS would let the 360 die a death as soon as the X1 was out. That hasn't happened AT ALL so far. They got proven wrong there.

I agree though, as long as next-gen games don't get dragged down with cross gen initiatives, then supporting the old gen is fine.

I just don't want them to end psn support. I still play many games online on my ps3 . So ending support now would suck. Sony please save a server for us fighting game fans.

Evene without it being used for games, because of 7th generation enabled the ability to constantly update they have evolved so well and make great multimedia centres.

Yet recently MS added the preview programme to the xbox360 so looks like they're going to be supporting it for a bit longer

About time. Stop making games for ps3/360. The next gen is here now. Time to let the good times go...

kayoss3328d ago

I think Western developers are more incline to let go of making games for last generation consoles. However, Japanese developers are still making games for the PS3 and even PSP systems.

It's A Crime That There's No Sleeping Dogs 2 Yet

Huzaifah from eXputer: "Sleeping Dogs from the early 2010s is one of the best open-world games out there but in dire need of a resurgence."

LG_Fox_Brazil3d ago

I agree, I consider the first one a cult classic already

isarai3d ago

You say "yet" as if it's even possible anymore. United Front Games is gone, along with anyone that made this game what it is

CrimsonWing692d ago

That’s what happens when games sell poorly. And I’ve seen people wonder why people cry when a game sells badly… this is your answer.

solideagle2d ago

Majority of the time it's true but if a company/publisher is big (in terms of money), they can take a hit or 2. e.g. I am not worried about Rebirth sales as Square will make Remake 3 anyway but if FF 17 doesn't sell then Square might need to look for alternative. <-- my humble opinion

Abnor_Mal2d ago

Doesn’t Microsoft own the IP now since they acquired Activision?

DaReapa2d ago

No. Square Enix owns the IP.

Abnor_Mal2d ago

Oh okay, Activision owned True Crime, but when that didn’t sell as intended it was canceled. Six months later Square Enix bought the rights and changed the title to Sleeping Dogs.*

Sleeping Dogs was a sleeper hit back then. It was fantastic. It actually still is. Would love a sequel to this, or at least a revive of True Crime series.

Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth II - PC Wore it Better

Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth II was an intriguing and unique RTS title, that sadly suffered in its console port.

dadavis19923d ago

Was just thinking about this game and wishing I had a way to revisit it. The way EA scrubs these titles from existence once their licensing runs out is horrid.

Michiel19892d ago

there is a client made by modders and it also works online.

kevco332d ago

Indeed. The game can still be played online on PC.

Xbox 360 players, though? Bang outta luck.
