5 Reasons Why People Are Now Fully Supporting the Xbox One

So it’s been about a year and a half since both the Xbox One and the Playstation 4 both launched. Although we call it the “console wars”, it was clear that the PS4 was head and shoulders above the Xbox and Microsoft had some clear catching up to do following their 2013 E3 conference. In the lead up to launch, Xbox dropped a lot of their most disliked policies, the biggest being the always online DRM, in the hopes of catching up to Sony and the Playstation. It worked to an extent and now being seen as a supporter of the Xbox One is not a bad thing. In fact, this article is going to list some of the reasons why people are now fully supporting the Xbox One.

The software

Sunset Overdrive, Titanfall, Forza Horizon 2, Ryse, Halo, Killer Instinct, Max and the Curse of the Brotherhood, D4, and Dead Rising 3 are some great games

christocolus3334d ago

I kind of agree with the software part. Ms has done a decent job getting some quality AA titles on Xbox One and the trend continues this year.

Also Ori is out in a few days. :)

XBLSkull3334d ago

Its everything. Microsoft stumbled out of the gate with an unclear vision of what the Xbox one was. Now that the console is out and matured, it is very clear it is the only true next generation system, the competition is stuck in the past clinging to obsolete ways.

BattleAxe3334d ago

Phil Spencer becoming the head of Xbox and Microsoft's plans to unify the Windows 10 ecosystem are another couple of reasons. This is probably the most exciting time to be an Xbox gamer, as there is a lot that I am sure that Microsoft will announce within the next year.

Parapraxis3334d ago

"it is very clear it is the only true next generation system"

haha, keep up the good work, son.

LexHazard793334d ago

Are AA games = AAA games? You always say AA games, but I dont know if you mean Indies or games like HALO, CoD, Uncharted, etc..

christocolus3334d ago

@Backpain

I mean AAA but i just stop after the second A. lol It's a combination of both really. They've been getting really good triple A titles and awesome Indies.

DarXyde3334d ago (Edited 3334d ago )

@XBLSkull,

Not sure if you're trolling, but okay, I'll bite.

If you think the XBOX One is the only true next generation system, you're kidding yourself. I like the XBOX One enough to have bought one in December, but I'm having a hard time seeing what makes it the only true next generation system. It has its perks, but it's better for these consoles to have differences to better justify one's purchases of all three.

The PS4 is the most powerful, developer-friendly console of the three. Personally, I love being able to SharePlay and I love that it has a feature-rich controller that can undoubtedly be used in very creative applications going forward. No, they're not being used much *now*, but the tools are there. Let's not forget the creative cross-play and Vita connectivity features. The fact that Sony somehow condensed the console into such a fair-sized unit is actually a very impressive accomplishment. Usually as technology progresses, we find ways to make them smaller. Just a thought.

The Wii U, as I understand, is just that fun system to hate because it's "the same old IPs, no third party support, underpowered", and whatnot. The Wii and Wii U are underpowered by platform standards (even console standards, to be perfectly honest), but you should consider that the Wii family are the only platforms one would consider underpowered. GameCube was the second most powerful and N64/SNES were more powerful than their competitors. Thing is, power means little when you don't make use of it in constructive ways. I love that Nintendo can take existing IPs and effectively re-invent them with every iteration that isn't much like the last. In story and premise? Sure, but not gameplay. That's where Nintendo excels. A lot of the new IPs you probably think will be the bee's knees are differences in story and graphics from before, but nothing revolutionary in terms of gameplay. A wolf in the pelt of several sheep's clothing, if you will. Not that that is a terrible thing, but since we're talking about competitors being stuck in their ways, that's a fair point to bring up. And you know what? For a system with very limited third party support, it's pretty incredible. Scratch that, it's just an incredible console. The interface on the Wii U is still the most unique by the way; not the most technologically advanced, but the Miiverse, applications, and sense of community are arguably more immersing than the rival platforms.

The XBOX One's innovation lies in its operating system. This is not a bad thing, especially when you consider Microsoft playing their strong hand. The Windows 10/tile setup is easy to get used to if you've used it on their other devices (much like Sony's old XMB). It helps in creating a unified platform.

I'm curious, what exactly makes it more next gen than the other two? Features? I used to complain when the XBOX 360 came out without a web browser and I was berated for it. Why? "Because it's a gaming console. If you want to use internet, buy a PC." DLNA? Last gen feature that the PS4 is lacking, but when does having old features make you next gen? When does a lack thereof deny you next gen status? You want to talk next gen, find a way to (a) reduce the size of that thing, (b) allow me to change the internal HDD; external HDD is a great option, but for those more conservative on space, it's not ideal. To this day, Microsoft is still the worst at hardware design.

I'm not going to act like Wii U and PS4 are perfect...because they're not. I'm not delusional and loyal to any company, but I do go where the games are appealing. They all have their strengths and for you to sit there and pretend the XBOX One is the "only real next generation console" is a joke.

AngelicIceDiamond3334d ago

This time last year MS couldn't get anything goin. Except TF would be quickly releasing here soon, again this time last year.

The software SDK tools at launch were very underwhelming, The price was high, XBL for a while was nearly broken, Loads of indies wanted nothin to do with the console.

Not to mention bad articles written about X1 every 2 minutes.

Everything just sort of flipped this year.

X1 is a much more attractive console this time around.

Quantum Break has to be my most anticipated exclusive this year.

magiciandude3334d ago (Edited 3334d ago )

As a Sony fan, I went the Xbox One direction this generation, and I think a lot of other gamers are finally catching on. The PS4 promised a lot of greatness, but delivered little of that with 5 games in a row for the whole time the PS4 has been on the market. Sure, cross-platform/cross-gen games run at 1080p on PS4 with an extra blade of grass along with it, but they are still at large the same exact games on the Xbox One. I am disappointed with the way Sony has been handling the PS4 vs. the PS3, which is why I chose the Xbox experience.

Anyway, Ori looks like plenty of fun. :D

Moldiver3334d ago

Had My PS4 from launch( previously a X360 and PS3 owner.Sold the PS3 to get PS4. kept X360.) And to be honest resogun, TLOU,CoD,KZ and infamous were ok games but mediocre. Occasionally went back on my X360 and started to notice more of my friends getting on XB1, playing titanfall. I made do with playing it on PC for a while. But Its not the same without my friends. Same with BF, which is why I never bought it PS4. I bought initially on x360 to play with my remaining friends ...who were not playing it on X1.Along with titanfall. I was starting to regret not buying it first. Especially when Im stuck with killzone, which, if you are used to shooters on X360, simply isnt up to par with what you are used to.By the time they announced MMC and I saw the reviews for it, along with SSO and FH2, I was sold. Got my X1 at Xmas (COD:AW bundle 1TB, bundle with FM5) bought titanfall in the Xmas sale for £10 including its season pass along with BF premium. And of course halo:MCC. Bought FH2 back in february. And I must say, this machine is the one I should have bought first. I still have yet to play SSO and they are about to drop ori, right before I get my hands on blood borne for My PS4. Which will be the first time I really sat down at my PS4 in ages.

X1 has been great so far.

donthate3334d ago

MS has worked very hard to get accepted, albeit I think in some areas to please the consumers they backtracked on things I think would have been amazing.

The ability to family share games with 10 other members, and the fantastically responsive Kinect for Xbox one is two things I'm bummed out about.

Otherwise, the games and the feature-set is unparalleled this generation so far.

I own a PS4, but hardly use it. Still waiting on a game worth buying on it, other than an old remake, Last of Us. All the first party games so far has been a dud, or not interesting.

Heck, the closest to being a game I *might* play is KillZone: Shadowfall. No matter how much power, the games is why I am buying consoles and why I likely will get more use of a Wii U right now.

That said, 2 more weeks and Blodborne is released. The game is looking really good and I hope it will be fantastic!

Professor_K3334d ago

you must play multiplats only.

thexmanone3334d ago

Yea i know the feeling, My PS4 collects dust now.

WCxAlchemist3334d ago

I enjoyed Ryse just like i liked The order well at least the story despite the 4/10 scores or what others thought.

Professor_K3334d ago

And the order was?, at least ryze had a Mp And 900p

22CobraKing3334d ago

@Dr_K Why are u bringing the order up did I in any way mentioned it or said it was better than Ryse. NO!

Razuel3334d ago

if you have a computer, most of those are available there too. No reason to support all 3 platforms.

beerzombie3334d ago

Then you are still supporting a third platform rather its PC or Xbox.
Zelda looks fantastic and of course the PS4 has some great games and tech coming out this year and 2016.

Thisgengaming3334d ago

Defiantly agree with this!

Sunset Overdrive, Titanfall, DR3, and FH2 have all gotten solid scores from us. Ranging from 8-9/10.

700p3334d ago

i ALWAYS supported them from the beginning but the constant updates and great exclusives deserve my support.

Letthewookiewin3334d ago (Edited 3334d ago )

Some believe If you keep saying positive things about the X1 they will convince others to buy it. It's not working.

christocolus3334d ago (Edited 3334d ago )

Lol. you guys keep jumping into xbox articles to talk BS. i'm sure you'd rather see 100 articles talking positive things about your favorite platform. right? If it is something positive about xbox one should it be hidden under the carpet? And i'm certain no one is trying to convince the likes of you to get one. wth?some of you are just so biased and closed minded.why even come in here to post your comments when you hate the platform so much?i hope the mods go through this comments section and mark all the trolls out.

Hellsvacancy3334d ago (Edited 3334d ago )

"Lol. you guys keep jumping into xbox articles to talk BS"

What do you expect when you've got commenters like XBLSkull at the top "it is very clear it is the only true next generation system"

What do you expect man?

headblackman3334d ago

@Letthewookiewin

it worked for the ps4! all they did was talk up the ps4 and really showed nothing that it better than the x1. so if it can work for sony, it can work for microsoft.

Professor_K3334d ago

You mean hype? yeah thats the only selling point for you ps4...lol

Bethesda Needs to Reduce the Gaps Between New Fallout and Elder Scrolls Releases

Waiting a decade for new instalments in franchises as massive as Fallout and Elder Scrolls feels like a waste.

Microsoft have Obsidian but I feel it's Bethesda who just don't want to play ball as they've always said they want to do it themselves.

Once MS bought Zenimax in 2020 they should have put the Outer Worlds 2 on the back burner, allow Bethesda to finish off its own Space RPG with Starfield (despite totally different tone why have two in your first party portfolio with two developers who's gameplay is a tad similar) and got Obsidian for one of their projects to make a spiritual successor to New Vegas.

When the Elder Scrolls VI is finished Bethesda can then onto the main numbered Fallout 5 themselves.

The Outer Worlds 2 started development in 2019 so putting it on the back burner wouldn't have been the end of the world, they'd have always come back to it once Fallout was done and it would have been nicely spaced out from Starfields release once they had most likely stopped supporting it and all the expansions were released.

If they did this back in 2020 when they bought Zenimax and the game had a good, steady 4 - 5 years development, you might have seen it release in 2025.

We are literally going to be waiting until 2030 at the very earliest for Fallout 5 and all they seem bothered about is pushing Fallout 76.

RaidenBlack3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Its not just only Todd not playing ball.
Obsidian have made a name for themselves in delivering stellar RPGs, but most famous once have always been sequels/spin-offs to borrowed IPs like KOTOR 2, Neverwinter Nights 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Stick of Truth etc.
Obsidian wants to invest more in their own original IPs like Outer Worlds or Pillars of Eternity with Avowed.
Similar to what Bluepoint & inXile wants to do or Kojima is doing (i.e not involving anymore in Konami's IPs).
So yea, even if New Vegas has the most votes from 3D Fallout fans, Obsidian just wants to do their own thing, like any aspiring dev studio and MS is likely currently respecting that.
But a future Fallout game from Obsidian will surely happen. Founder Feargus Urquhart has already stated an year ago that they're eager to make a new Fallout game with Bethesda, New Vegas 2 or otherwise. Urquhart was the director of the very first 1995's Fallout game after all.
And don't forget Brian Fargo and his studio inXile, as Brian Fargo was the director of Fallout's 1988 predecessor: Wasteland

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron - Coming Back for a New Generation

Originally launched in 2011, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is coming to Nintendo Switch, so It's time to look back at the original.

jznrpg1h ago

Still have my ps3 copies. Bought it at launch and another one when I found it cheap and in perfect condition about 10 years ago. I wouldn’t buy it on Switch but if they made a PS5 version I would. I still have one of my PS3 Fats hooked up so good to go either way.

darthv721h ago

Id play it again on the switch. I wished my 360 version was bc but this is still a good way to play.
