Uncharted 4 could be at 1080p/30fps; partner AI will be smarter

Although Naughty Dog promised to reach 60 frames per second, Play UK magazine, that tried the demo, said that the final game most likely will turn to 1080p resolution and 30fps.

Still trying to find that quote where they promised 60 fps. Good news about the AI

Cindy-rella3338d ago

I cant wait for this game. I wouldn't mind this game being 1080p@ 30fps because i know itll be awesome because of the developers. Buying it first day

thereapersson3338d ago

None of the Uncharted games have been 60 FPS. This one will be no different.

miyamoto3337d ago

lol! the demo was really locked at 30fps

OB1Biker3337d ago

Ditto
This article seems to be old news anyway

bouzebbal3337d ago

maybe 60fps for the multiplayer.
SP in 30fps is fine for this kind of games. Just look at infamous or The Order.

freshslicepizza3337d ago (Edited 3337d ago )

obviously because they got the last of us running at 60 frames per second on the ps4 all the rave was about them hitting that benchmark with the upcoming uncharted. that's why they never promised they would hit it but carefully said it is something they are trying to achieve.

the mistake naughty dog made was overselling the new last of us and how much better it is playing in 60 frames per second. now they have to scale back those achievements on uncharted because it's way more taxing on the hardware than cleaning up the last of us.

we all know 30 frames is perfectly acceptable but now that the cat is out of the bag with how the last of us improved the feel of the gameplay some people wanted them to do the same with uncharted. sadly they will not offer the option to scale back some of the graphics and give people the choice like pc gamers have. a few console games offered v-sync options to have smoother gameplay if turned off but that's about it.

the game will be amazing so this isn't go to be some big deal but it would be nice to have 1080p and 60 frames per second games but that doesn't seem to be the priority on consoles, they would rather push graphics to the limits instead.

Forn3337d ago (Edited 3337d ago )

Frames-per-second doesn't make a game. I know U4 is going to blow everyone away visually, and that the gameplay and story will likely be generation defining. It'll probably be a locked 30fps like Driveclub or The Order 1886 as well anyway, and those games are very responsive, fast and fluid. Can't freakin' wait!

nveenio3337d ago

I've never had any trouble playing any games at 30fps, so I really don't care. I'll take the higher fidelity. No skin off my back.

u4one3337d ago

i agree with everything you said. going to be such an amazing game and naughty dog know how to bring it. great visuals, great story and great gameplay.

dantesparda3337d ago

Does anyone really think this game is going to run at 60fps with those visuals on the PS4?

Bobby Kotex3337d ago

I'm sure you don't even know what 60fps gaming is like.

nveenio3337d ago

@Bobby Kotex

I game at 60fps all the time on my PC rig, but I've always chosen higher fidelity over frame rate in the settings.

They never promised it. They said they were going to focus on it and target it.

Khronikos3338d ago

Indeed, all this promising BS coming out of gamers and the press alike is beyond pathetic. These people don't owe you anything. They are not your friends or lawyers. They are developers.

decrypt3337d ago (Edited 3337d ago )

Well Sony sure knows how to create hype. In fact many of their statements look purposely to be in place to be misleading:

http://www.gamespot.com/art...

Kutaragi Claims PS3 to run at 120fps, Of course when he said this he ment PS3 could run games in 3d, however the statement was so shady it gave the idea PS3 would be running games at 120fps. Goes without saying most PS3 only ran at 30fps.

http://www.psu.com/forums/s...

Again watch the fans believe the crap. Blindly as if they were on some crack pipe.

Goes without saying history has a way of repeating itself. Sony almost always spews crap they can never deliver same goes for MS.

Notice carefully with all the drama going on about achieving 1080p finally on console. Most true next gen multiplat games (games not crossgen) are not running at 1080p on either console (ps4 / xb1). Both of them pretty much promised 1080p gaming last gen. They failed.

A decade later they are back at it, looks like they will fail again. Infact as the gen progresses and games get more demanding look for PS4 and XB1 to drop back to 720p.

Shame PC gamers were playing at 1080p like resolutions back in the early 2000's. At this pace PS5 might finally acheive 1080p (if there ever is a PS5). After 2 decades of trying Sony finally catches upto what PC was doing back in 2000's.

Fishy Fingers3337d ago (Edited 3337d ago )

Change the tune dude. I'm a PC gamer, one that enjoyed 1080 gaming way back when. But guess what, current lower res console games still look better than those games I was playing in 1080.

As someone who strongly likes to echo the merits of a PCs extra horsepower and capabilities you should know there's a lot more to graphical fidelity than just res.

You consistently make yourself look a fool which wouldn't be so bad but you give other PC gamers (who often also enjoy consoles like me) look bad. You're an embarrassment.

ion533337d ago

Just have the gameplay at 30FPS and cutscenes at 60FPS. Or both at 30 and up the graphics

BallsEye3337d ago

well, They did show a trailer running in 60 fps and having way better graphics and called it a real game level running on real ps4 real time. Few months later they show huge downgrade in 3 fps..

go find the tweet

http://gamingbolt.com/uncha...

http://i.imgur.com/A2EPJ7R....

whoever disagree is a damn blind fanboy. Nothing made up here, all facts.

ziggurcat3337d ago

@ballseye:

You're not presenting facts, you're distorting the facts. A fair bit, too. What they showed at E3 was an in-game, in-engine *cutscene* from one of the chapters in the game, running in real time, captured directly from a PS4.

What they showed at PSX was pre-alpha *gameplay* of (probably) a different chapter in the game.

Those are two completely different things. If you can't tell the difference, that would be horrifically troubling since you claim to work in the industry. There's been no "downgrade" because you're comparing a cutscene to gameplay, which almost never uses the same assets. And as we know from past ND games, they use better character models for their cutscenes than they do for their gameplay.

gamerfan1283337d ago (Edited 3337d ago )

@BallsEye

Baseless, worthless comparison that proves nothing. You are the blind one spreading lies out of spite, not ND. They did not downgrade the visuals.

Almost all of your posts are lies, FUD, and blind hatred about Sony or Playstation, several of them marked for obvious Trolling.

nicksetzer13338d ago (Edited 3338d ago )

They didn't promise, they just simply led people to believe it. They claimed the E3 trailer was 60fps running "in engine on PS4" and even released a 1080p 60fps uncompressed download. So it's not strange that people would assume the rest of the game would be too, otherwise why claim it was in engine on ps4?

http://www.naughtydog.com/s...

To be clear I don't think anyone is whining about 30fps, in fact, it is perfectly expected. They just had the impression that if the trailer was "in-engine" on PS4 running 1080p 60fps the full game would too. They are just trying to provide clarity on the situation, not bash the game for being 30fps.

Thatguy-3103337d ago (Edited 3337d ago )

But you can't blame them when all of it is assumption that one makes. As gamers we should know better than that. The way the article starts pisses me off simply because they're spreading lies. Naughty Dog never "Promised" that the game will run 60fps. Gaming journalism is a joke.

ziggurcat3337d ago

"They claimed the E3 trailer was 60fps running 'in engine on PS4'"

... Because it *was* in-engine running from a PS4.

And you're wrong in that they didn't say anything about the trailer being 60fps. if you go and watch the original reveal during the presentation, it was 30fps. Making a high-quality 60fps *version* available after the fact =/= them saying that the trailer was 60fps or implying that the rest of the game was going to be 60fps.

I swear...the lengths some of you will go to distort the truth is astounding.

nicksetzer13337d ago

@ziggur How would you possibly know the framerate at E3 when all the streams were capped @ 30fps? Can you see beyond video players capabilities? They specifically released this "separate" version so that it was not compressed and running at 60fps.... Also the 1080p 60fps uncompressed download is that same footage, not altered....

"**why don’t you watch the high quality 1080p60 trailer and see for yourself**"

"All footage you see in the trailer was captured completely in engine."

Framerate doesn't just magically increase by making a "separate" version of the same exact footage. Really, you just seem confused and uninformed.

Jazzuri3337d ago

absolutely.
not to mention the downgrade from the original reveal...
Stop buying into the bulldust or else they'l just keep selling it to you.

They said they could never go back to 30fps after TLOU remasterd.
http://www.vg247.com/2014/0...

nicksetzer13337d ago

They were just excited for tlou remastered, and obviously hyping it a bit. That is hardly a "promise" of uncharted 4's framerate.

mattdillahunty3337d ago

no, "they" didn't say that. one guy who works at Naughty Dog and who enjoyed playing a game in 60fps said that.

Thatguy-3103337d ago

What does that have to do with uncharted? They're talking about TLoU port. Who's to blame for assuming things?

Sevir3337d ago

Yes, because there is a 60fps version of the game. That one dev at the studio said after playing TLOU at 60fps he could never go back to playing it at 30fps. Way to miss interpret.

JMyers3337d ago

I am sure they said they were aiming for 60fps...

Nothing was promised.

Thatguy-3103337d ago

As far as I remember they never did. They said they were going to aim for it but they never claim Uncharted 4 will run 1080p on 60fps. The past uncharted's weren't 60fps so I can careless if this time around they don't reach it. It didn't hinder my experience with the last two installments so I can't knock it off if they can't reach it.

extermin8or3337d ago

*couldn't careless otherwise you're saying you do care.... :p

Locknuts3337d ago

I seem to remember them saying they were 'targeting' 60fps. It's sad that they have to compromise due to the lack of horsepower in the PS4. You can't blame ND. They work hardware like nobody's business. The box is just weak.

Blaze9293337d ago

somethings not adding up honestly if these games aren't achieving 1080p/60fps with no problem. That's all Sony marketed the PS4 as.

MrDead3337d ago

They can hit 1080p/60fps if they do things like lower the poly count, texture, AA, less particle effects.... etc

I know I’m answering a troll account but hey a honest answer might keep you quiet for a bit.

Shredmeijster3337d ago

Stating that the development team is AIMING for 60fps is something different than promising it. ;)
look it up.

Yetter3337d ago

there is no quote but the initial reveal of this game was a cinematic cutscene that was running 1080p/60fps. And they did say that it was not prerendered, it was running in engine, which implies it represents the final product

Visiblemarc3337d ago

Yeah, what the hell is that? They never promised any such thing. At most they said they were "aiming for 60 fps."

the_mack_attack33337d ago

Think Naughty Dog said they were trying to get it to 60fps, but were having trouble making it work.

purpleblau3337d ago

I bet the graphics won't top the Order 1886 by a lot. Maybe even less impressive. But I'm still excited for this game.

starchild3337d ago

Nah, the Order looks good, but not that good. I have little doubt that Uncharted 4 will look better, even with the disadvantage of running at a higher resolution.

jc123337d ago (Edited 3337d ago )

Honestly, Id prefer 60FPS at 900P over 30FPS at 1080P. Of course people would lose their effing minds if this came to fruition, so we'll never see it...Stupid.

The difference between 1080P and 900P is almost non-existent. The difference between 30FPS and 60FPS is stark.

crazychris41243338d ago (Edited 3338d ago )

Oh man would have been great to get 60 fps smoothness. Maybe they can still do 60 fps for mutltiplayer just turn down the graphics a little. I do it all of the time like in Crysis 3 I pushed my PC to the limit in single player while maintaining a constant 30 fps then in multiplayer I dropped it down to maintain a constant 60fps.

_-EDMIX-_3337d ago

Not if it meant lowering quality.

Go on a PC, play game, download fraps.....

Now see what frames its running then turn down the quality and you'll see the frames raise.

Having more frames generally means you have the lessor engine as it took stripped features to run at a certain setting.... The want the max quality vs some number.

crazychris41243337d ago

Thats what I said do it in multiplayer where frame rate is more important than visuals to most people. They did it for The Last of Us, they can do it for Uncharted too.

_-EDMIX-_3337d ago

@Crazy...

yes...they did if FOR A PORT! Uncharted 4 isn't running on the same engine and isn't a port.

Thats like saying because GTASA was 1080p 60fpjs on 360 that GTAV will be 1080p 60fps on PS3 and 360.

Your asking for settings used on a dated engine to be used on a newer engine with no downgrade.

Thats like if your PC maxed out Crysis FULLY, and Crysis 4 released....soooo your just going to max out Crysis 4 too? Using the exact same settings? LMFAO!

Its not feasable, based on its running under a more demanding engine.

ie if your MAXED out Crysis, your not going to max out Crysis 4 (ie if your PC could ONLY handle just Crysis)

The PS3 could only JUST handle The Last Of Us...the PS4 has no problem doing that.

Uncharted 4 is seeking to max out the PS4, thus it won't run the same settings as The Last Of Us on PS3 wasn't running 60fps....

What your guys are asking them to do makes no sense as your asking them to downgrade the game to hit a number...

Would you ask Rockstar to just make GTAV look like GTASA graphically JUST to get 1080p 60fps on 360 PS3 while their competitors made better looking engines?

Sorry 60fps lovers, but new engines, graphical quality, textures etc are far greater then trying to hit 60fps.

As a PC gamer and console gamer...I fully understand that going higher frames means lowering feasible quality to do so.

ie...if 2 systems, both with the exact same specs have 2 of the exact same games....

The game running on ultra at 720p, 30fps will always look graphically superior then the game running on low, all settings turned off running at 1080p 60fps.

I know because Crysis at 720p 30fps looked better the any game prior to it in 1080p 60fps.

New engine 30fps > old engine 60fps

Its just the nature of gaming. At 60fps, they are factually not going to look better then what they could have at a lower frame. (ie they have less effects, lower settings etc then they know they could have had)

There is a reason why GTAV and The Last Of Us were NOT 1080p 60fps on PS3/360.

They seeked to have quality vs a number. A combined 300 or more GOTY awards, 42 million units (BEFORE each got a next gen port mind you) show you that...no.

Gamers don't care as much about such numbers so long as you have a beast engine, smooth gameplay etc.

They are making the right choice.

Relientk773338d ago

The gameplay at PS Experience was absolutely amazing and gorgeous. From the environments, to the grappling hook and the stealth gameplay. It's hard waiting for this game.
