Rockstar Will Probably Announce A New IP This Year, Red Dead Redemption 2 Not Happening Anytime Soon

Rockstar have seen tremendous success with Grand Theft Auto V. The game has shipped 45 million units till date and with the PC launch happening next month, that number could very well surpass 50 million. Given the game’s massive success, it’s only obvious that Rockstar will follow up with Grand Theft Auto 6 or may be a sequel to Red Dead Redemption.
But Wedbush Securities’ Michael Pachter disagrees. He believes that Rockstar are motivated by developing experiences for the player and not by money. So instead of announcing a sequel, they will most likely announce a new IP.

It is a pity that Red Dead Redemption never got a PC release, nor a current-gen remaster. Still waiting for Agent.

Kurisu3344d ago

I think Rockstar are hoping that people have forgotten about Agent. I can't see them releasing it.

LordMaim3344d ago

I'll bet you that Sony's legal department haven't forgotten it. We'll see if R* follows through or works out some alternate arrangement with Sony.

AliTheSnake13344d ago

I would like a Rated M Bully.

wannabe gamer3344d ago

i vote next gen remake and pc release for RDR. its obvious a port wont or cant happen after the info on the dev trouble they had with console version. its such a classic game that it would be like honey in a pot for gamers even if they just did a 1 to 1 remake for next gen and pc. in fact it would prob be much better than a simple port could ever be. come on rockstar you know its true and would just rack in the millions all over again

wannabe gamer3343d ago

if a port isnt possible which it isnt then why not just remake the game with new graphic standards? sure id rather see a sequel or a new game of course, but i had hoped that didnt need pointing out. only here will people disagree and hate on you if you dont paint the whole picture out in crayon for them even the things that seem so obvious.

solid_snake36563343d ago

No remakes plz. It was a great game, but let's focus on the future.

wannabe gamer3343d ago (Edited 3343d ago )

jeez, im saying if they arent going to do a sequel or a port then id like to at least have a remake thats how much i like the game. im not asking for a remake inplace of a NEW game.

This entire article is a rumour predicted by none other than Michael Pachter, the guy that predicted GTAV would release in 2010, and then 2011, then 2012, then 2013...

Palitera3344d ago

Yet there was no report.

Rashyd Saied and that garbage site at its best.

_-EDMIX-_3343d ago

bro STFU! Yet he CALLED it would release in 2013 and it did bro!

(after 18 attempts)

T2X3343d ago

Yeah. So, Rockstar amkes millions of bucks on GTA5 and Pachter predicts they will make another one. Major news. No, I thought the honchos at the earning meetings sat around and said "Hey, Bill, we just made $200 million on that GTA5 so make sure we never do that again!" LOL!
I would prefer another RDR or GTA. I dont care much about Bully. But, just my opinion.

kevnb3344d ago

The word remaster makes me cringe, perfect marketing term. Atleast rockstar didn't call gta v on next gen and pc a remaster.

Cra2yey33344d ago

Gta5 didn't even feel like a remaster anyway...more like a port.

kevnb3343d ago (Edited 3343d ago )

they are all ports...
except remakes, those are remakes. Just because you improve the graphics doesnt make it a remaster, if thats the case nearly every multiplat pc game ever made is a remaster.

Aloren3343d ago

True. I can understand if you want to call a rerelease of a 10yo game a remaster, but calling a game a "remaster" when the original has been out for a year feels artificial.

nyctophilia133343d ago

I would buy a new RDR on day one, preorder, season pass, whatever, JUST TAKE MY MONEY DAMN YOU!!!

_-EDMIX-_3343d ago

Rockstar isn't a PC developer native so it makes sense. Until they have a team at Rockstar that does PC games fully, they will always port to PC using other teams vs a in house team. Sucks, but they need to focus on what they can.

Red Dead has "yet" to get a port to next gen in HD...

It very well may as almost ever Rockstar game has come from PS2 to PS3/360.

Bully, all the GTAs, Max Paynes etc. It will very, very likely get ported.

They haven't really "not" ported games before sooooo.

As for Agent, who knows.

@Lord Maim- Not really, we don't even know what their deal was, for all we know it was settled years ago. Sony was likely going to fund part of the game for a timed deal, but around the time of 2007/2008 was around the time Sony even stopped doing such things with other publishers.

You see around then their stance change on such a thing and they begin focusing more in-house vs funding other publishers IPs.

The deal may have just come down to funding being too much for little return.

Who knows really.

Is this Pachters game now, making predictions a two year old could make?

Guess he got sick of being so wrong so often.

I thought there had been a few leaks mentioning the next read dead was in development. I need a sequel to that masterpiece!

Crimzon3344d ago

The head of TakeTwo (I think?) said at their last investors meeting that they want to turn Red Dead Redemption into a franchise because the game far exceeded their expectations. I expect that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be Rockstar's next game following GTA5, but I also expect that we won't hear anything about it for another two or three years yet since Rockstar like to take their time.

Mankey3344d ago (Edited 3344d ago )

I get how much fun everyone had with the game, myself included (I have it's Platinum Trophy)

But I don't really see why everyone is clamoring for a sequel. The story is very much self contained.

The story itself was very much reflexive as the end of the cowboys. So where could it go? Simply portraying Jack as he lives out his remaining years? Eh.

Much rather Rockstar pull out a sequel to a game that really needs it, Bully or LA Noire,

or better yet update us on whats going on with Agent and start work on a few new IPs.

I'm all for sequels, but only when they are actually warrneted. Which is not saying Red Dead doesn't warrant one, but rather that people are really just reacting with the attitude that R* did such a good job on it, that they need to recreate that feeling. Let them try a different setting, different country 'whatever,' I say or if they feel they have a story that can match what came before then go ahead, but don't just make a sequel simply because Red Dead was a good game, thats the Call of Duty 4 attitude after all.

Crimzon3344d ago

Why would Rockstar need to continue the story of RDR if they made a sequel? All the GTA games have their own stories and are standalone. I don't see why a sequel to RDR wouldn't have entirely new characters etc. as well.

Da Ill One3344d ago

Red Dead Redemption is part in the red Dead Series... no reason Red Dead R______ will be a sequel in the first place. Revolver and Redemption are both stand alone games in a series (Just like GTA)

StrawberryDiesel4203344d ago

A prequel where Marston and Bill are robbing trains, banks, taking over towns etc. It would be better than a sequel in my opinion.

Oschino19073344d ago (Edited 3344d ago )

I hope they don't do a direct sequel and keep doing the way they have. Red Dead Revolver was 1880s, Red Dead Redemption was in 1911, hopefully we get a new story again for the 1920s during the height of prohibition.

They can always have some references, easter eggs or small cameos. They have done that with other games while keeping the general universe of the game feeling the same even though it's new characters and new stories.

_-EDMIX-_3343d ago

Red Dead is likely the next game. RockStar North will be working on, their other teams likely might make sequels to other ips.

Max Payne, Bully, LA Noire (I can't WAIT)

Bummed that Team Bondi isn't dong it. That team did a great job with that game in terms of detail, models, animations etc.

Hope Rockstar can match what Team Bondi did with a sequel.

Also want it to be called NY Noire and set in the 20's.......

I want lots of things.

DOMination-3343d ago

Rockstar North didn't make RDR. That doesn't mean they won't make a successor to it but I think GTA is their baby.. can't see Take2 messing with that

I'm fine with that. As long as Rockstar delivers an awesome action game, day-one purchase is a must. B-)

Agent is like The Last Guardian. They will release in

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

gamerfan09093344d ago

Agent, unlike the Last Guardian which I believe will release in the next year and a half, will never be released. That game was announced back when third party exclusives were the norm. People forget how common they were back 5 or 6 years ago. Take Two is publicly traded and pretty much wants the most money possible. I don't see them ever approving an expensive open world game like that on one platform. I just don't see a publisher and dev of that caliber making an exclusive any time soon.

DigitalRaptor3342d ago (Edited 3342d ago )

"That game was announced back when third party exclusives were the norm"

Back when they were the norm? What reality are you living in? The vast majority of Xbox One's first year exclusives were third party games. What do you call Persona 5? What is Bayonetta 2? What is The Wonderful 101? What is The Devil's Third? What is Scalebound? What is Yakuza? Why is Level-5 announcing a third-party PS4 game at E3? What is Street Fighter V and what is Rise of the Tomb Raider?

NarooN3344d ago

Literally came here to post about Agent, lol. Talk about vaporware...
