NE: "Last year, we heard that Tantalus Media – the developer behind Mass Effect 3 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution’s Wii U versions – started work on a “AAA next-gen title” for Nintendo’s console. It was confirmed soon after that the project in question was a port/rework of a game “for an absolute top notch publisher.”"
Alone in the Dark developer Pieces Interactive has been hit with layoffs a month after its release, as per the latest information.
That genuinely, genuinely sucks. The reboot has clear flaws, but it really felt like a solid first step for this team to receive *greater* investment.
Shenmue: Reclaiming the Path is a fan game using Dreamcast-era visuals, and tells a new story within the Shenmue saga taking place in both Hong Kong and Guilin. Its expected to release on September 16th.
Something about recreating old school graphics in an era of HD high poly photo realism just hits a spot. I'm not nostalgic cause I mostly played GameCube and GB/A, but it's a visual style that gets over looked even by indies.
Definitely a fan project. Terrible hand animations. Some characters have very bad body proportions. Some look like little kids in adult bodies. Some have short arms, small head, big hips and so on.
While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.
Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.
It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny
Armored Core VI?
Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.
Is something big coming soon to branch the story?
No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).
I wonder what it is... Since they worked on Mass Effect 3 and Deus Ex port then its probably a third person shooter.
Good, they did a good job with Mass Effect and Deus Ex.
Wonder what it is? AND what WiiU title is getting ported?!
Tantalus....what the heck are you....
Okay, I'm just going to put this out there; I don't know whether or not to trust them on this.
Why? For one reason:
Hearing the word "Port" in regards to a third party Wii U game, sends chills of horror down my spine these days.
The last few times we got ports of any sort of multiplat, they were missing content, or poorly optimized, or late, or lacking long-term patch support, or the developers had done/said something to piss off the Wii U fanbase before it hit the market.[Looking at you, Ubisoft, you m*****-******s.]
To be fair, though, I don't have anything against Tantalus itself.
Deus Ex, I loved. It did lack some DLC weaponry and stuff that the PC version got, but the core game was very well done, and the use of the game pad on the game was absolutely top-notch.
But Mass Effect 3....
Well, I know that Tantalus didn't decide how it was brought over, so I'm not blaming Tantalus for it, but an interactive comic book isn't a good enough replacement for two full game's worth of content, which the collector's edition of the series would have given us had it been brought over instead.
I dunno if Tantalus objecting to that would have changed EA's mind on it or anything...
But in the case of both ME3 and Deus Ex, they were both old games at the time. There was no way a late port of either was going to sell spectacularly.
My point is, I'm cautious.
VERY cautious.
I spent the first year of the Wii U's life supporting as many third party multiplats as my finances would allow, praying that my contribution would earn the system more games done right down the line.
Third parties burned and betrayed me, as if in spite of my patronage, with the way they handled most of their ports.
It's gonna take a LOT to get me to open my wallet up to third party ports again after that amount of two-faced shenanigans.
Just don't jip players from content that was available when the game first came out on the previous consoles, and you're golden.
