EA Market Cap Now Significantly Higher Than Activision Based on Current Data

According to current figures, EA’s market cap is actually — and possibly for the first time in the last few years — larger than Activision’s, and not by any small amount.

Congrats to EA

A good portion of that comes from TitanFall, great game.

EDIT @ BRINGOCOMEBACK:

Exactly where do you get info that says TF under performed?

http://www.polygon.com/2014...

"Three games led that performance, according to EA. Respawn Entertainment's Titanfall, EA DICE's Battlefield 4 and EA Canada's FIFA 14 are three of the five best-selling titles in the West across all platforms in 2014 so far; the publisher did not provide specific sales numbers.
Because according to EA, TF led to them beating revenue expectations."

Let's put it into perspective:

TF is listed as having more sales than all but one exclusive on a competitors console.

NOTE, the competitors console has close to 2x the install base.

So I ask again

Why are you suggesting that EA lied about their outstanding revenue?

Edit 2 @ below, read the article,it says SALES

I have to laugh at the desperation below, as if all companies are posting sales figuures. Why would we need VG then?

Better still

Why was TF at or near the top of NPD and UK charts for so very long, lol

I believe EA of bitter trolls, and EA said TF led sales and then quoted their biggest titles AFTER TF, get over it.

BRINGSOCOMBACK3346d ago

That's debatable. Titanfall underperformed. If anything, that slowed them down early in 2014.

Dragon Age: Inquisition was likely a part of what catalyzed this not to mention all the hype surrounding Mass Effect and Star Wars: Battlefront.

BRING @ Its not debatable its in there in the article Foehammer posted Titanfall was one of the biggest games for EA in 2014 sales wise. I know it doesn't suit you and others like you but Titanfall was a successful game on the x box platforms.

@KNWS

It's Foehammer, so yeah.

OrangePowerz3346d ago

Let me break it down for you. You are talking about an industry where everybody shows off how big their d**k is by posting how great a game did and how many copies have been sold.

Not posting numbers equals not performing as expected. If you reach or exceed you expectations you will send out a press release with numbers that show how great your game did. Did TF lead to them exceeding revenue expectations or did whatever money they got for it to be Xbox and PC only lead them to exceed revenue expectations?

TF is listed where exactly? NPD doesn't release any official numbers anymore and Vgchartz is guessing so where is that accurate list that we can take as a fact?

Muzikguy3346d ago

I'm sorry but Titanfall underperformed. Numbers would be all over the internet if it sold as well or better than they had hoped. Don't be so naive. They're hiding it for a reason. Also, you don't spend what they spent in marketing unless you're absolutely sure of the sales. I strongly believe it didn't perform like EA wanted. What they say and what they mean aren't always the same thing.

CerealKiller3346d ago

Has nothing to do with Titanfall, has to do with the fact that it trades at 22x forward earnings and is overvalued and continuously pumped up by clueless analysts and fund managers who keep shorting Activision until they get squeezed out of their position. Also market capitalization means nothing, Take-Two's is only 2.3b for example.

Finally, someone who knows what this news is about. I had to read through all the crap to find the golden needle :)

Gamesindustry.biz have decent stock tick articles every now and then, and I remember them having a full review of 2014 gaming stocks. In that review, EA was clearly the winner. But I suspect that your reasoning behind it, is true.

Howewer, if the P/E ratio is comes down a bit, I might be interested in putting a few thousand in EA stocks, provided that their incoming game line-up looks profitable (both mobile and consoles/PC). So far, so good.

Interesting. These are both mega super sized publishers, so it's always intriguing to see where the big market share lies.

OrangePowerz3346d ago

It doesn't show where the big market share is. The market cap is basically the shares of a company multiplied with the share price. That's what the market cap is, it has nothing to do with who sells more games.

knifefight3346d ago

Now they can afford to take a risk and put an NHL game on Vita. I'd buy 4 of them. Do it!

Soldierone3346d ago

I'd buy another 4 just to make them keep it on Vita!

I don't always congratulate corporations,

But when I do,

They are intent on ruining the industry by exploiting gamers.

Stay sharp my friends.
