PlayStation Exclusive MLB 15: The Show Gets ESRB Rating: Reveals Returning Modes and More

Today the ESRB published the rating for MLB 15: The Show, which will release on March 31st for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita. It goes without saying that it got a "E for Everyone" rating (apparently, they need sexier cheerleaders), and no descriptors.

As a european I ask myself, why MLB don't sell as good as Basketball and Football games. Isnt Baseball famous too?

masa20093353d ago

I think it's a combination of the perception that baseball does not lend itself as well to a videogame, and the fact that baseball has a notoriously aging fanbase.

rdgneoz33353d ago

Probably because baseball is a slower paced game than both football and basketball.

Here's a quote from an article from last year for example... "The average time between plate appearances against the same pitcher and in the same inning has risen from 45.1 seconds in 2010 to 49.1 seconds in '14."

and one about between pitches..."The average time between pitches this season — not counting times between the last pitch of one plate appearance and the first pitch of the next one, and also excluding any times that include pickoff attempts or official mound visits — is 18.29 seconds, up roughly one second since 2010"

49 seconds between batters in the same inning and 18 seconds between pitches. Between batters, a football game could have 2 or 3 plays run depending on whether they're using an uptempo offense. And another play run between the time it takes them to pitch a ball. Basketball is about as fast if you exclude the last min of the game which tends to be the annoying fouls left and right hoping that the team will miss one free throw so you can win).

Overall, if you look at the sales of fast paced games like twitch fighters or shooters vs slower paced strategy games there's a little bit of a difference. MLB 15 will be a great game and sell well, but some people either don't have the attention span for some games or prefer more physical games.

An actual well-thought out, helpful post on N4G?! *GASP*

Hopefully they improve the gameplay. One of the things that gets annoying is that all players swing like each other, all players field like each other, and the game is not really a true baseball sim anymore. Bad defensive players don't really have bad defense in MLB the show. In 2k if you're bad at hitting three pointers in real life you never hit three pointers in the game. It's still the only option for now and the games are usually good, but the gameplay is no longer sim and hasn't changed for a while now. I'll still pick it up for Vita since I'm a huge baseball fan.

Did they get rid of the announcing crew yet?

morganfell3353d ago

Do you mean change the announceres out? I ask because you could always turn it off when playing. Matt Vasgersian, Eric Karros, and Steve Lyons were the play by play announcers with no word on who is up for 2015. They have added a feature called Inside the show which is a broadcast you can choose to listen to at the beginning of each day that highlights league play so you are up on major happenings. Not sure who is voicing that particular feature.

The Twitch broadcast premiere on Feb 5th demonstrated quite an impressive range of new features:

Do not buy the playstation headset it's terrible and the sound quality is awful. The bluetooth broke on mine after 2 weeks. Now I have to connect it to the DS4 with the wire.

Don't know why sony made such a cheap product.

Dynasty20213072d ago

Because blind fanboys are blind.

I tried the wireless headset about 2 years ago, and sent it back. The audio is better on my in-ear heaphones worth 1/10th of the Sony ones.

Tsunade3072d ago

I have the PlayStation headset since it was released and had zero problems so far. I like that I can use it wireless and wired too. I believe it is a good headset in my opinion but that is me that has had no problems with it at all.
