What? $20 a month is more expensive when compared to the 3 months subscription. $20 for 3 months is $60. if you get the $44.99/3 months, you're saving at least $15. Thats is almost the price for a month subscription.

Gamefly gives you access to hundreds of more games, across all platforms, for cheaper price. I don't think that price is outrageous but it is for access to only 100 PS3 games. I only ever even owned SOCOM Confrontation, SOCOM 4, MGS4, God of War 3, and Killzone 2 for my PS3... and I had access throughout it's life cycle to its entire library of games, not just 100...

why does PS Now even exist as almost every game worth playing on last gen has been ported or remastered or planning to get remastered. this will cost Sony more to run the servers than its worth.

It's a good deal if you go through games really fast, but you could buy pretty much any of these games on ebay for under $5 and have them forever. It would be a game changer if they had new releases, but I dont think the games industry would be able to survive like the music industry barely has on a subscription based model. This is definitely a strong next gen idea though.

Erm if you buy a game a month thats $60 a month so thats over $720 a month not including subs etc.. This is a fraction of the price of PS4 games and you get unlimited. For a games subscription this is a good price. People are comparing this to netflix but you gotta think games are more expensive than movies. Around 4X more expensive so a service thats around 2X more expensive is fair. Its more bang for your buck than netflix except in terms of content. Then again a movie lasts you 2 hours a game can last over 40 hours.

These aren't new games, I already own most the library worth playing (Between PC, X360, and PS3) the others were not worth it last gen and are not worth it now.

And to compare this to Netflix for more than a few people is a bad idea when trying to compare content. The service is like Netflix but I have Netflix because I don't have cable TV. Therefore I forgo $60 a month on cable and spend $8 on Netflix. So for me that would be me saying I wont buy a new game ever and only play PSNow... That just isn't going to happen.

The difference is streaming old games vs new games. If new releases would be available then you'd have a hit, but this selection is not worth it for the hardcore as it's last gen and older last gen titles that most have played already and wouldn't warrant the price.
Now had the Ps2, Ps1,Psp, arcade library be included(ones that are available on Psn), now that would be something totally different.

I don't know... Gamefly is $16/mo. for one game at a time and $23 for 2 games at a time. This is $20 a month (or $15 for 3 months) and you can switch between games.

The catalog is pretty varied right now and is going to grow. There is Uncharted: DF, Bioshock:Infinite, Batman:AC, NBA 2K14, R&C:ItN, Spelunky, The Last of Us, XCOM: Enemy Within, God of War: Ascension.... and more.

So, while I agree with you that $20 seems high, it is not too bad. I likely won't pay for it at this point, but I already played all of those games on my PS3. Imagine if you never had a PS3, though, and only had a 360. This is great way to play all of the games you missed last generation.

I think that a better pricing plan would be
$15/mo. for one month
$12/mo. for 3 months
$10/mo. for 6 months
$100/yr. (approximately $8/mo.)

Or, maybe do reduced prices for PS Plus subscribers.

But, honestly, while the pricing could be better, this is not a bad start.

This is a pretty damn good deal (imo) for those of us that don't already have the games. However, this is just streaming the game. I would rather purchase the physical game or download and install the game.

I hope this is not their idea of backwards compatibility. This is a great feature and great for people that are casual gamers or that don't care about owning a library of games. I want to actually own and collect my games. I definitely do not want to stream them.

Digital games I can download and install on the system it is developed for as much as I want. One time fee. However, your ownership of digital games is lower than physical but still better than just streaming and never really owning. Digital you don't have a physical collection but you have a digital collection.

I can't agree with this. There is an option to save money and you would choose to spend more money than you would have to.

Yeah you have 2 separate months, that's cool, but it doesn't reward you in any other way but timing. Therefor its a waste in comparison to do that deal over the 3 month deal. But it's cool, it's your money... you choose what you feel is right.

All that being said, this is why they give you options between the two. Some people can't afford the 3 month deal.

@Heavy your referring to Playstation Plus, they are referring to the new just announced Playstation Now subscription service to stream ps3,ps2,ps1 and ps4 in future. This is starting January 17th, you can subscribe to Playstation Now for $20/mth or $45/3mth, on top of the Plus membership... hope that helps.. please read article is was very clear

Not everybody has the space to add another console. Power strips are maxed out, HDMI ports are maxed out, entertainment center is full with all the devices that want to be attached to you TV nowadays. For those occasions when you want to play a PS3 games, maybe the PS Now makes more sense for some people.

This is about lifestyle options more so than price. Maybe some people don't mind keeping a bunch of old consoles around. But a lot of people do! Why is that a bad thing?

I think this is catered to people who dont have a console and want to casually play games when they have time on their smart tv or other mobile devices. it works the same way with a Netflix subscription. Why dont i just go buy the DVD/ Bluray movies that i want to watch at the bargain bin? It works the same way. I missed a lot of games during the PS1, ps2, and ps3 era. This is a good chance for me to play those games that i missed without buying an old console that i will play one to two games on. Its more convienent and it cheap. I seem to be the only person here who actually has a membership to Gamefly. Remember Gamefly? That nifty little service that lets you rent 1 game disc at a time for 17 a MONTH, with no bundle of months as a plan? This allows for maybe 3 or 4 discs per month depending on shipping speeds which are both good and bad for certain people.

Now let's compare 20 a month, or 15 a month for the 3 month plan. With UNLIMITED access to any game in the PS Now library which is currently over 100, with no shipping speeds to take up your membership time.

I swear people are so ignorant these days. I was fully expecting around 20 a month, but with some kind of 5 game rentals per month limit. But now that they allowed access to the entire library for that price, you people are complaining?? ARE YOU INSANE??

Paying 20 a month for games from a legacy platform is insane. Take into account here, if you're paying 20 a month you want maximum usage from it. If you're using PS Now all the time, you're not playing PS4 games so why even own the PS4. Yah, may as well get a PS3, buy your games pre-owned for peanuts and have something to own at the end of it.

Did you sell your ps3? if yes then this could be perfect for you. if no then pick the games you like and buy them. This service will be AMAZING when newer PS3 and PS4 titles start becoming avail. id hold out if you can. How many of the PS Now Games would you play or consider playing? Many of the games I played in alpha, beta were great but the games themselves or selection was hit or miss. again my opinion? Cause the used price on many of the NOW games is $1-$5, with a few exceptions, at the best buy used bin, gamestop, etc.

This service is just the beginning for Sony's new mission.. this service will be offered in TV's, probably CPU's, smart boxes in future as well... Sony is starting small but this service will grow. This is the beginning of the transformation from needing a console to needing only a great high speed internet... This will be the future for Sony and its just the beginning.. Playstation Now will be the new Playstation, just give it a few years to get on its feet, perfect its backbone, and grow...once ps4 games are one there, there will be no need for your console just a samsung tv, a sony pstv, sony tv.. etc

I don't understand the people on here moaning about the expense of this. You wanted a cheaper option, you wanted a subscription based service...here it is at a very reasonable price. It's Netflix for gamers at $15 a month with a fairly decent library of games to choose from already and, no doubt, with many more to be added soon.

Personally, I love the freedom of this. I don't have to bother with hunting down individual titles and picking them up. For $15 a month I have the library at my fingertips and can preview and play whatever game I feel like playing at the moment. Looking through the list I already see dozens of games that were on my list to play that I never got around to playing. I don't know where the hell these guys are picking up titles in "$1-$5" bins but is sure as hell isn't at any Gamestops or Bestbuys I've ever been to.

To be able to pick and choose from this list for only $15 a month...you're damn straight that's worth it for me. That's what I'd be paying used for just one of the titles I see on the list I'd like to play, let alone what it would cost to pick up dozens of them. And I'll be able to play them on my Vita, PS3 or PS4 as it suits me.

I wouldn't mind a further discount for being a PS+ subscriber though.

I like how you are thinking. However, I do not want to rely on an a high speed internet connection to be able to play my games. I don't want to have to worry about hackers taking down PSN/XBL and not being able to play my games.

I want to own my games and I want to play them without relying on internet. It's not that I do not have high speed internet connection because I do. I have FiOS.

Like I said, I like how you are thinking, and I like what Sony is doing... However, this is not for a gamer that likes to collect his/her games. This is more for a gamer that plays casually and wants to play a large array of games.

I have a large collection of PS games from PS1-PS4 as well as PSP and VITA. With PS4 and PSVita I have bought a lot of games digitally but I have bought physical copies of the games I truly collect.

Along with the games you get a 10% discount on all ea products (that alone pays for the subsciption) and early access to them. Vs ps now which is $15 a month in its cheapest form. gamefly is a different kind of service thats run to make money of a rental service. basically buy it once and rent out for as long as possible. they also provide new games for any console.
psnow is mainly for people who dont own a ps3 and can get games instantaneously without dealing with installation, patch updates, online passes and we get the complete editions.

The reason why I say this is simple, PS Now will soon be available on tablets, smartphones, internet ready HDTV's, and other smart devices. What this means is that anyone who's not willing to spend $150 to $200 on a Playstation 3, can now play as many games as they want, all day, everyday, as many times as they want. Games like Saints Row, Street Fighter IV, Disgaea, Bayonetta, Dead Island, Castlevania, Eternal Sonata, F.E.A.R. and many more. Some of these games are still for sale for more than 20 bucks, so being able to play 10 games or more in one day any where, and at any time, is more than worth the 20 dollars per month.

EA access, unless you can carry an Xbox One around in your pocket, it isn't much of a value.

Therefore, they either already own one and thus own a console, or they're being expected to plop down another $50-$100 for peripherals to make this set up work (controllers, adapters, enablers like PS TV etc.). Again, this is not nearly as casual accessible as it appears, nor does it entirely negate any added costs. Do you think anyone is going to be paying $20 a month to play PS3 games on their touchscreen phone? Of course not. It is assumed these people will already have a controller, and thus a compatible console to go with it. The problem I'm seeing increasingly with PS Now is that it is apparently targeting a very narrow market that doesn't really seem to exist yet. People who are enthusiastic enough to pay the cover charge, who own bits of consoles and other devices necessary to access the service but are not enthusiastic enough to simply buy a cheap console and some games. PS3s can be had for under $100 these days, and the games are often sub-$30 at this stage. Considering the issues streaming presents and that the users are tech-savvy enough to set all of this up, they'll also be tech-savvy enough to know that lag is likely an issue and I can't imagine why anyone would pay $180 a year to essentially rent games with sub-par latency/visual quality (it's compressed video, folks) Vs. buying a machine outright and a few games you'll actually want to play for the same price or less, and play them as they were meant to be played.

PS Now's benefit was supposed to be a "try before you buy" style rental service, where you could immediately play some portion of the full game via streaming and decide if the game was for you. That's not worth $20 a month/$180 a year, not for old PS3 games or PS2/PS1 games, and it certainly isn't suitable to be playing any fast-paced AAA games in full. And considering down-times over XMas thanks to the boys over at Lizard Squad and PSN's general patchy service of late, who would place that kind of faith in this system being available on demand, 24/7? The value proposition simply isn't there with this thing.

Personally I would love to see an equivalent service that lets you download the games to your console so that you can play them locally at full quality.

In terms of licensing it's not really any different so the same price should be feasible, and it would suit a different audience very well indeed.

Of course such a service would rely on a connection and DRM to control access to the games on the hard drive, so whoever delivers it will have to negotiate that minefield of negative feeling.

Will be interesting to see if/how paid DLC and such figures into this new world of rental services...

I could purchase a handful of games on this list for the price it cost to rent them for three months. If these were brand new $60 games I could understand the reasoning for the subscription cost to be so high.. But most of them are several years old and can be purchased for under $20. Combine this with the fact that you're playing on an internet connection that may lag at certain points, so performance isn't as good and you're using a service that can randomly get disconnected during maintenance or a DDOS attack then it's not a very good value in my opinion. $10 a month is far more reasonable.

What's missing are the inevitable discounts , especially with PS+ and a proper list that keep being updated

a tad bit expensive, but a step in the right direction. they should give PS+ subcribers a discount at least. at the end of the day, you get to play everything they have at the moment for an alright price point. $15 month is pretty comparible to gamefly, except that gamefly allows you to rent from more than just one platform.

so hopefully Sony adds more incentives to subcribe like something of a PS+ discount. also work more on the kinks and bugs of PS+, and of course grow their service to be able to be able to play the whole PS3 catalog and beyond. I mean PS2 and PS1 games will eventually be there.

Great pricing for the casual gamer or even a gamer that doesn't own a PlayStation. Keep in mind CES is today and both 2015 Sony and Samsung UHDTV will come with PlayStation Now. $20 a month is not bad for 100 games.

For PS4 users it really all comes down to content. It's a gamble because some PS Now games will get a PS4 remaster, just like Ultra Street Fighter IV. They do need to incorporate PS1 and PS2 games but the issue of licensing is a hurdle.

Ultimately there should be levels of PlayStation Plus:

-Regular PlayStation Plus: $49.99
-PlayStation Plus with unlimited PS Now: 69.99.
-Ultimate PlayStation Plus Experience (PS Plus, Unlimited PS Now, and PlayStation Vue): $79.99.

It's unrealistic to think developers would allow access to their IP's for a penny a piece and server costs and maintenance probably aren't free either. Your generous $20 a year is $1.66 per month for access to 150+ games. Galkai technology cost Sony $380 million dollars. They should probably try to make some of that money back. That cost doesn't include maintenance, utilities, employee costs, and rent payments for the building the servers are housed in. We haven't even scratched the surface on royalty payments for available content either. Do you still think $20 a year is fair?

it's a start. the fact that this even exists with this kind of library is a milestone moment for the industry and david perry and gaikai have to be incredibly proud.

that said, the demand at $15/month ($160/yr) is probably not much. At closer to $10/month, you might have a lot more people interested, but this is still going to be a bit niche for a while given that the games on offer are all older titles. And I wouldn't be surprised if that was their intention - they want it to be a good experience: too many people would increase the risk of bandwidth issues and ruin the product reputation considerably.

if they could lump in PS+, a la Amazon Prime vs. Amazon Fresh (Fresh includes prime - you don't have to pay for both), then the value proposition is considerably better (<$10/mo for unlimited PS now access). Would also help if they added in PS4 and compatible Vita games over time.

But, this is an incredible moment in gaming technology in my opinion. Will be an even bigger deal when it starts working on Vita and console-less TVs. Heck, they should submit a PS Now Xbox app and see what happens.

A game cost me $65. Thats just one game. Now Sony wants $20 a month for access to thier games on Playstation Now. Its not that bad of a deal if you consider the price of one game is 3 months of this service, and how many games can you do in 3 months?
I'm sure alot more than the price of one game.

I still own my PS3 & if I want to play an older game again I can just get it on PS plus or own it dirt cheap from Amazon,Gamestop or Gamefly.I personally won't be needing PS Now.

I will not use this service. I have a HUGE backlog of Plus games to get to on my PS3. That is why I have not got a PS4.

But if the PS3 Instant Game Collection from Plus were made available on PS4 with the Now Subscription. A LOT of people I know would pick up a PS4 tomorrow and Subscribe to Now! Including me!

This is a great pricing and subscription idea, i could deff use this, and some comments saying the games are old gen? who gives a fuck theres games on PS3 thats better than 99.9% of PS4 games. And to play them on PS4 would be epic! This subscription is for everyone but its main appeal is for new gamers who didn't own a PS3

£10 a month here in the UK (and presumably $10 a month in the US even if it's less as its the number that makes a difference to the consumer) is about right If they really think they can sell this through smart tvs and other media (and i personally can only see smart tvs dying off as who actually uses that rubbish?) then a smaller subscription cost x more subscribers is the model they should be aiming for.

pay $900 upfront to play those 50 games on one system with immediate access

say immediate access isn't that important and you gradually build your 50 games up at 1 a month for $15 a month. It would take almost 4 years to get all 50 games. Using the old console method this price would go up if more than 50 games were worth playing in this 4 or 5 year period where as the PS Now rate would remain flat at $15 a month on the 3 month subscription plan regardless of how many more games were added.

PS Now is not perfect but it is a very good deal with this new subscription model. Its has its flaws just like everything else (max 720p and stereo sound even if the game supported higher resolution and surround sound). I believe local co-op is out but not sure on this as I haven't explored PS Now's game catalog or technology, due to price to know if local co-op is possible.

However despite these limitations, the service seems sound and lag, with what games I briefly tried during free beta, (single player games no online co-op) lag didn't seem to be a concern.... now with the ability to do $15 a month with a 3 month subscription might..... just start

Oh and Playstation TV at $99 is starting to look a much better deal with this change to the PS Now subscription service

You know, I like this idea. It's not for me, because I still have my PS3 and backlog on both PS3, PS4, PS Vita and some indies on PC.

It is sure a nice thing for people coming exclusively from the 360 or that are simply new to games.

Not everything has to be for you, they expanding the market. I think it's nice.

So why is this so much when I already pay of PS+? This should be discounted or free. I know servers, ect aren't free, but that's why i'm paying for ps+.

I'd be ok with maybe $7 or so a month, like netflix, but this seems very expensive on top of PS+. I don't have a PS3 and would love to play some games, but not for that price.

The value of a deal depend on how do you use it.
It's a incredible deal if you play 5 games and more on PS now per month and it's not if you don't use it.

Now for my taste I thinks it's really bad deal for the gaming industry.
Let me explain: all options (Netflix, PS Now, PS plus, etc) are competing for your free time. When you are using PS Now you are not buying a new game or playing a new PS4 game.
and this behavior pretty much explain why there's a lack of new IP and more remastered games and indies games.

$20 would be fine if the service can take advantage of nature of streaming games but it doesn't do that. The beauty of streaming games is that it's basically an app, like Netflix or Youtube. It should be available on multiple platforms and the quality of the content is not dependent on your hardware.

This rip off doesn't do that. When I'm streaming Darksiders 3, I should get the PC quality Darksiders 3. Not the PS3 version of Darksiders 3 with shitty textures and sub 1080p resolution. It's not like Sony is using thousands of PS3's to stream the game to us. They're using PC game servers. That is just one of the many short coming of this service. So unless there is a burning desire to pay top dollar for an extremely small list of Sony's last gen exclusive I can't imagine why anyone would want this.

I agree for it lacks the PS One ,PS 2 and future PS4 games. The quality of streaming gaming should be top notch. That's why I pay for Netflix, due to its high definition streaming service that's better than pirating.

Add an unlimited streaming(Music, Video, Games) tier of PS+ for around $150 per year & you will rightfully dominate entertainment Sony. Keeping in mind Netflix is about $100 per year (to my understanding as an Australian who hasn't tunnelled into Netflix), for an extra $50 than Netflix, you get standard PS+, unlimited game streaming & unlimited music streaming on top of the video streaming. Not sure you can stretch people paying much more than that though, I think $200 per year tops.

I would say that £15 would be the sweet spot to get a load of people to sign up, £20 might be a little much for a month but the 3 months price isn't too bad.
