Nope, not gonna be paying $20 a month. It would be cool to be abe to stream PS3 games on my Vita and PS4 but not for that price.

Billydee263397d ago

@xHeavyx Ummm....don't think you read correctly. It clearly states $44.99 every 3 months which is about $180.

Blaze9293397d ago Show
GameDev13397d ago

That is just your calculation based off three months

There might be a deal for a years worth subscription and xHeavyx was confusing PS + subscription with this

Ill bite at the 20 dollars a month but not the three month deal, it seems too expensive

Id rather see a years worth deal

Anyway Im glad they listened to feedback and went for subscription deals compared to the previous one and now they can fluctuate the price based on how people use it

Am definitely up for it, my PS3 not being with me anymore, I missed Demon souls, Uncharted 3, buttload of Gran Turismo, Infamous 2,Ratchet and Clank series and I can keep on going, the catalogue is tasty

kurruptor3397d ago

GameDev1, why would you do the $20 a month, but not $45 for 3 months?

You mean just to test it out? If it is something you plan on keeping, why would you not do the 3 month deal (if those are the only 2 options).

kayoss3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

@gamedev1
"Ill bite at the 20 dollars a month but not the three month deal, it seems too expensive "

What? $20 a month is more expensive when compared to the 3 months subscription. $20 for 3 months is $60. if you get the $44.99/3 months, you're saving at least $15. Thats is almost the price for a month subscription.

I hope they give us some sort of deal for PS plus members.

GameDev13397d ago

@Kayoss@Kurruptor

Because I dont plan to be using PS3 games for 3 months it would just be a waste of money, rather I would get a month like twice in a year to play some games, rest of the time will be spent on PS4 games

3397d ago
XBLSkull3397d ago

Gamefly gives you access to hundreds of more games, across all platforms, for cheaper price. I don't think that price is outrageous but it is for access to only 100 PS3 games. I only ever even owned SOCOM Confrontation, SOCOM 4, MGS4, God of War 3, and Killzone 2 for my PS3... and I had access throughout it's life cycle to its entire library of games, not just 100...

bmf73643397d ago

$45 per 3 months=$15 per month with a 3 month commitment.

why does PS Now even exist as almost every game worth playing on last gen has been ported or remastered or planning to get remastered. this will cost Sony more to run the servers than its worth.

it would have been cheaper to just add emulation.

gamingisnotacrime3397d ago

It seems they are aiming to have ps now on smart tvs and other streaming boxes. Is more for those who dont own and dont plan to own a console

jXales3397d ago

What the dude above me wrote. Plus i guess they are testing the waters of the post console generation. Eventually consoles will be obsolete. If they can get streaming working they will have a pretty good headstart by then.

ginsunuva3397d ago

Umm.. most ports so far are of games we never wanted ported.

Xsilver3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

HMMMMMM $20 a month for access to a 100+ games and that's a problem for you guys but yall pay $60 for one game that yall only play for like a month sometimes even 2 weeks only LMFAO i swear y'all kill me.

thanhgee3397d ago

I'm confused about people crying over the price.. $15 a month (if you take a 3 month deal) and you have unlimited access to franchises such as God of war, uncharted, ratchet and clank, infamous etc.

ltachiUchiha3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

Yeah I dont understand all the anger in here. If u can pay for $8 for netflix, This is actually an awesome deal for over 100+ games and its still growing. This deal offers way more value then EA Access & u dont need a ps3 or a ps4 to play them. How is that a bad price for $19.99? Thats a freakin steal.

Edit: I see ppl pay more fore dumb phone games like candy crush & angry birds but ppl complaining over a subscription that offers 100+ full games such as the last of us etc. etc and thats a bad thing for $19.99? smh, i swear sum of u are so hard to please that i can picture u ppl complaining over the smallest things in life.

Xsilver3397d ago

@thanhgee and @itachiUchiha
i think the price could of been $1 and people still would complain it's the life we live.

intellegent3397d ago

Don't people also pay $15 a month to play WoW? That's one game lol.

Malphite3397d ago

15 bucks a month is a pretty good deal for a subscribtion like this. I'd definately try it out for that price if it was availiable in europe.

uth113397d ago

Any distribution or pricing method other than buying a physical copy for $60 at retail gets a ton of hate.

F2P, Paid DLC, digital-only distribution, and now streaming pricing.

It's just more options, which is usually a good thing. you don't have to buy any of the optional stuff.

Neonridr3397d ago

If Sony can ensure that all the games from these franchises are available (Uncharted, God of War, etc) then count me in. But I don't want to pay for a service so I can play part 3 of a franchise without being able to play parts 1 or 2...

Kidmyst3397d ago

I may do PS now on my Sons account, he'll love the giant library of games he's never played.

otherZinc3397d ago

@Xsilver,

That's $60 for a brand new "Next Generation Game"! Not $180 per year for some last gen has been games & flip phone compatible Indie Games!
"LMFAO", you fanatics kill me.

hulk_bash19873397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

But why spend $180 for a years worth of access to games I already own when I can spend that money on games I want to get this year. The Order 1886, Bloodborne, Dying Light, Evolve, and Uncharted 4 just to name a few. There in lays the problem I have with paying that much for this service. But if you or anyone else wants to use it, more power to you.

Xsilver3397d ago

@otherZinc yeah because all those $60 new generation games have more value than a 100+ games #yawn

KilKarazy3397d ago

It's a good deal if you go through games really fast, but you could buy pretty much any of these games on ebay for under $5 and have them forever. It would be a game changer if they had new releases, but I dont think the games industry would be able to survive like the music industry barely has on a subscription based model. This is definitely a strong next gen idea though.

pompous3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

But you'd pay that for gamefly with 1-2games a month?????? Which it is and with ps now you have hundreds available instantly and unlimited play versus rent, wait, wait, play, return, wait, wait, wait wait, receive new game, repeat. People this is priced right and competively to the only other service similar. The only ones complaining just simply can't afford it if the wanted to. Sorry this isn't for you and it's an option to other who want to play games they don't have on their vita, tv's, tablets, etc where this service will be streaming to. I won't be using it as I'm done with those ugly, smeared textures, jaggy mess of games. They're simply too ugly for me now after playing ps4 and maxxed out pc games. Graphics matter to me and older games have shit graphics compared to brand new modern games.

Gamer19823397d ago

Erm if you buy a game a month thats $60 a month so thats over $720 a month not including subs etc.. This is a fraction of the price of PS4 games and you get unlimited. For a games subscription this is a good price. People are comparing this to netflix but you gotta think games are more expensive than movies. Around 4X more expensive so a service thats around 2X more expensive is fair. Its more bang for your buck than netflix except in terms of content. Then again a movie lasts you 2 hours a game can last over 40 hours.

Gh05t3397d ago

When is the last time you bought a PS3 game for $60 each month?

These aren't new games, I already own most the library worth playing (Between PC, X360, and PS3) the others were not worth it last gen and are not worth it now.

And to compare this to Netflix for more than a few people is a bad idea when trying to compare content. The service is like Netflix but I have Netflix because I don't have cable TV. Therefore I forgo $60 a month on cable and spend $8 on Netflix. So for me that would be me saying I wont buy a new game ever and only play PSNow... That just isn't going to happen.

andibandit3397d ago

Please not the movie comparison again..

Movies are an absorbing/passive experience, games are immersive/active experience.

See Pines & Gilmore's "Realms of experience"...

You might as well be comparing book reading to parachute jumping.

THamm3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

The difference is streaming old games vs new games. If new releases would be available then you'd have a hit, but this selection is not worth it for the hardcore as it's last gen and older last gen titles that most have played already and wouldn't warrant the price.
Now had the Ps2, Ps1,Psp, arcade library be included(ones that are available on Psn), now that would be something totally different.

Highatus3397d ago

I used to pay way more than that a month renting games from blockbuster.

So I don't find issue with this pricing scheme, if I happen to use the service.

Gh05t3397d ago

I always rented current gen games though...

THamm3397d ago

I used to pay 20/month at Hollywood video for unlimited game rentals, 1 at a time...BUT the difference was I got new releases included. That's where the 20 would be worth it

fermcr3397d ago

Way too expensive simply to play old games. No thanks. Not interested.

BTW, they should be offering this service for free with PS+.

obz3397d ago

It cannot be free with PS+ but I do agree it needs PS4 games and maybe some games that could only run on a supercomputer or something.

VegasDawg3397d ago

Welcome to the beginning of a always online, DRM future.Support this BS at your own risk. This is Sony's and MS's plan for next gen. If this is successful kiss consoles and gaming as we know it goodbye.

JackBNimble3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

paranoid much... ?

harrisk9543397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

I don't know... Gamefly is $16/mo. for one game at a time and $23 for 2 games at a time. This is $20 a month (or $15 for 3 months) and you can switch between games.

The catalog is pretty varied right now and is going to grow. There is Uncharted: DF, Bioshock:Infinite, Batman:AC, NBA 2K14, R&C:ItN, Spelunky, The Last of Us, XCOM: Enemy Within, God of War: Ascension.... and more.

So, while I agree with you that $20 seems high, it is not too bad. I likely won't pay for it at this point, but I already played all of those games on my PS3. Imagine if you never had a PS3, though, and only had a 360. This is great way to play all of the games you missed last generation.

I think that a better pricing plan would be
$15/mo. for one month
$12/mo. for 3 months
$10/mo. for 6 months
$100/yr. (approximately $8/mo.)

Or, maybe do reduced prices for PS Plus subscribers.

But, honestly, while the pricing could be better, this is not a bad start.

kstap333397d ago

Gamely sends you discs, this service is streaming. Huge performance difference.

DanteVFenris6663397d ago

@Kstap if you don't have the speeds for perfect performance than ps now isn't even for you so I don't know why you care about the price. People who can use ps now have optimal performance or a wired connection.

Magicite3397d ago

guess Ill keep buying retail games for my PS3 just this year and then sell it.

Orionsangel3397d ago

I'd rather it be like PS Plus. Pay a fee and have it for 3 months or a year, not be tied to a monthly service that each month takes money out of your paypal or bank account.

JackBNimble3397d ago

you can subscribe for 3 months... didn't you read the article ?

1 month $20 or 3 months for $45.

mmcglasson3397d ago

This is a pretty damn good deal (imo) for those of us that don't already have the games. However, this is just streaming the game. I would rather purchase the physical game or download and install the game.

I hope this is not their idea of backwards compatibility. This is a great feature and great for people that are casual gamers or that don't care about owning a library of games. I want to actually own and collect my games. I definitely do not want to stream them.

Digital games I can download and install on the system it is developed for as much as I want. One time fee. However, your ownership of digital games is lower than physical but still better than just streaming and never really owning. Digital you don't have a physical collection but you have a digital collection.

DanteVFenris6663397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

You can still buy them then at collecter stores. This is for the majority that aren't collectors and just want to experience the game in the easiest way possible. This isn't for me but even I can see this is great value for those with good speeds but o know you already said that. But just trying to point out a don't believe majority are too concerned about "owning" the game they just want to play and than be done

King-u-mad3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

@GameDev1

"Because I dont plan to be using PS3 games for 3 months"

Ok that's fine.

"it would just be a waste of money, rather I would get a month like twice in a year"

I can't agree with this. There is an option to save money and you would choose to spend more money than you would have to.

Yeah you have 2 separate months, that's cool, but it doesn't reward you in any other way but timing. Therefor its a waste in comparison to do that deal over the 3 month deal. But it's cool, it's your money... you choose what you feel is right.

All that being said, this is why they give you options between the two. Some people can't afford the 3 month deal.

xtremeimport3397d ago

I dont mind paying. But the games on the service have to match the price. Plus...I've heard it's still a little laggy for some games. Would like for the service to be pretty much flawless before I fork out and extra couple hundred on something like this.

titans99993397d ago

I agree 1000000000000000%.....no way will I be repurchasing games I already own! F U Sony!

ashcroft3397d ago

They should just rename it, PSLater...because no one who has an IQ with 3 digits will ever go for this.

Unless there's a huge discount for ps+ subs...this is going to die a quick death.

Maybe it'll force Sony to include native emulation for ps1 at the very least.

Muzikguy3397d ago

I was saying how for the new year I'd let things go because people complain too much, it I can't here. I don't see where $180/year to play hundreds of games is a bad thing. What were people expecting? Full access to an entire library of 3 platforms for just $2.99??? I can understand wanting to save money but wow!!! Some people are just too damn cheap!! Support the industry for crying out loud. This is supposed to be for people who don't own a PS system and I think it's great. Will I be paying? No, I have a PS3 and PS4. I'm sure the catalog will constantly be added to. Then when you think $180 is the same as 3 games per year at retail brand new, the price doesn't seem so bad at all. They're trying to make money too guys

Isn't everyone super stoked to pay $20 a month or $45 every three months to play games they probably already or even still own? Brutal.

It's pretty asinine to buy this service. Just buy a PS3 and buy the games you want to play. It will be cheaper.

Unless you like throwing money away, then please, by all means.

xHeavYx3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

"Just buy a PS3 and buy the games you want to play. It will be cheaper."
Yeah, $250 for a PS3 + games is cheaper than $50. Great logic.... /s

@below
You are so misinformed it's sad, first of all, refurbished PS3s cost $200-$250, second, you can get a year's worth of PSNow for $50, nice try though.

DarthJay3397d ago

Sure. Go straight for the most expensive price for a PS3 and compare it to three months of service. Great logic. Not like we could compare it to the price of a used PS3 or even the cheapest PS3 and compare it to the potential life of the subscription, which once you invest in three months, you're probably going to keep investing in, right? Am I right? Of course I'm right. So yeah. Great logic.

OK. OK. Because clearly you're the reason we can't have nice things... IF YOU ARE ONLY GOING TO USE THIS SERVICE FOR THREE MONTHS EVER EVER EVER EVER! THEN DON'T BUY A PS3 AND ALL THE GAMES BECAUSE OVER THREE MONTHS IN THE HISTORY OF EVER THAT WOULD BE A BAD DEAL.

Happy? Value gamers know how to stretch their dollar. I'm looking at used consoles on eBay that come with 5-10 games in the 120-175 range, which is cheaper than a year of this service. So. How is your /s now?

RjK311jR3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

@Heavy your referring to Playstation Plus, they are referring to the new just announced Playstation Now subscription service to stream ps3,ps2,ps1 and ps4 in future. This is starting January 17th, you can subscribe to Playstation Now for $20/mth or $45/3mth, on top of the Plus membership... hope that helps.. please read article is was very clear

DragonbornZ3397d ago

"You are so misinformed it's sad" Hehe...
Sorry I had to point out the irony in your comment.

uth113397d ago

@DarthJay- If you don't get your money's worth out of the subscription, you can always rent individual games. Or you can still buy a physical PS3.

Not everybody has the space to add another console. Power strips are maxed out, HDMI ports are maxed out, entertainment center is full with all the devices that want to be attached to you TV nowadays. For those occasions when you want to play a PS3 games, maybe the PS Now makes more sense for some people.

This is about lifestyle options more so than price. Maybe some people don't mind keeping a bunch of old consoles around. But a lot of people do! Why is that a bad thing?

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 3397d ago
callahan093397d ago

Seems like a fair price to me, but I've already played all the PS3 games that are available on this service that actually interest me, so I won't be subscribing.

ShutUpDonny3397d ago

It is a fair price, but the problem is : who have time to play all those games ? There is already so many new games to play, plus the free one with PS+. It's a fair price for a service that is rather useless for the vast majority of people.

twiggytree123397d ago

@ShutUpDonny- I think the real question is.. Why wouldn't someone game on all the old games they missed out on for a low flat rate while the newer games get cheaper?

Obviously there are people who have had all the PS3 games they can handle, but a lot more people haven't than you think. Not to mention all the people who switched from 360 to PS4.

kayoss3397d ago

I think this is catered to people who dont have a console and want to casually play games when they have time on their smart tv or other mobile devices. it works the same way with a Netflix subscription. Why dont i just go buy the DVD/ Bluray movies that i want to watch at the bargain bin? It works the same way. I missed a lot of games during the PS1, ps2, and ps3 era. This is a good chance for me to play those games that i missed without buying an old console that i will play one to two games on. Its more convienent and it cheap. If i dont like the game, i can stop it and play another one.

xHeavYx3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

Seems to be a good deal for people who never owned a PS3.

StarLord_Who3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

I can already hear your zip being pulled down.

BattleTorn3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

You said above that "you can get a years worth of PSNOW for $50"

That requires explanation.

If it was truly a good value, there would a yearly sub option, the fact that there isn't is obviously be the $price would have peoples eyes pop.

xHeavYx3397d ago

It's called a mistype, people do it "soemtimes"

BattleTorn3397d ago

"$50" was a typo for what then?

BiggCMan3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

Nope, it's actually not. And let me explain to EVERYONE here who is saying this is expensive, why it is not expensive.

I seem to be the only person here who actually has a membership to Gamefly. Remember Gamefly? That nifty little service that lets you rent 1 game disc at a time for 17 a MONTH, with no bundle of months as a plan? This allows for maybe 3 or 4 discs per month depending on shipping speeds which are both good and bad for certain people.

Now let's compare 20 a month, or 15 a month for the 3 month plan. With UNLIMITED access to any game in the PS Now library which is currently over 100, with no shipping speeds to take up your membership time.

I swear people are so ignorant these days. I was fully expecting around 20 a month, but with some kind of 5 game rentals per month limit. But now that they allowed access to the entire library for that price, you people are complaining?? ARE YOU INSANE??

caseh3397d ago

No, we're not insane. Just not stupid enough to pay 17 a month for a rental service.

If you're renting games that have some monetary value, like something new then yeah fair enough if that's how you prefer to game then go for it.

Paying 20 a month for games from a legacy platform is insane. Take into account here, if you're paying 20 a month you want maximum usage from it. If you're using PS Now all the time, you're not playing PS4 games so why even own the PS4. Yah, may as well get a PS3, buy your games pre-owned for peanuts and have something to own at the end of it.

RjK311jR3397d ago

Couple questions if thats cool!
Did you sell your ps3? if yes then this could be perfect for you. if no then pick the games you like and buy them. This service will be AMAZING when newer PS3 and PS4 titles start becoming avail. id hold out if you can. How many of the PS Now Games would you play or consider playing? Many of the games I played in alpha, beta were great but the games themselves or selection was hit or miss. again my opinion? Cause the used price on many of the NOW games is $1-$5, with a few exceptions, at the best buy used bin, gamestop, etc.

This service is just the beginning for Sony's new mission.. this service will be offered in TV's, probably CPU's, smart boxes in future as well... Sony is starting small but this service will grow. This is the beginning of the transformation from needing a console to needing only a great high speed internet... This will be the future for Sony and its just the beginning.. Playstation Now will be the new Playstation, just give it a few years to get on its feet, perfect its backbone, and grow...once ps4 games are one there, there will be no need for your console just a samsung tv, a sony pstv, sony tv.. etc

Anon19743397d ago

I don't understand the people on here moaning about the expense of this. You wanted a cheaper option, you wanted a subscription based service...here it is at a very reasonable price. It's Netflix for gamers at $15 a month with a fairly decent library of games to choose from already and, no doubt, with many more to be added soon.

Personally, I love the freedom of this. I don't have to bother with hunting down individual titles and picking them up. For $15 a month I have the library at my fingertips and can preview and play whatever game I feel like playing at the moment. Looking through the list I already see dozens of games that were on my list to play that I never got around to playing. I don't know where the hell these guys are picking up titles in "$1-$5" bins but is sure as hell isn't at any Gamestops or Bestbuys I've ever been to.

To be able to pick and choose from this list for only $15 a month...you're damn straight that's worth it for me. That's what I'd be paying used for just one of the titles I see on the list I'd like to play, let alone what it would cost to pick up dozens of them. And I'll be able to play them on my Vita, PS3 or PS4 as it suits me.

I wouldn't mind a further discount for being a PS+ subscriber though.

Gamer19823397d ago

The only people complaining are Xbox fans on here as they are using this to attack Playstation 4 yet again. This is not only a great price its going to be available on TVs and tablets. Even non Sony ones. This is the gaming netflix we have been waiting for.

mmcglasson3397d ago

I agree with you 100% BiggCMan. I just hope they don't even think this will replace backwards compatibility (whether physical or digital backwards compatibility).

mmcglasson3397d ago

@RjK311jR

I like how you are thinking. However, I do not want to rely on an a high speed internet connection to be able to play my games. I don't want to have to worry about hackers taking down PSN/XBL and not being able to play my games.

I want to own my games and I want to play them without relying on internet. It's not that I do not have high speed internet connection because I do. I have FiOS.

Like I said, I like how you are thinking, and I like what Sony is doing... However, this is not for a gamer that likes to collect his/her games. This is more for a gamer that plays casually and wants to play a large array of games.

I have a large collection of PS games from PS1-PS4 as well as PSP and VITA. With PS4 and PSVita I have bought a lot of games digitally but I have bought physical copies of the games I truly collect.

DarthJay3396d ago

Gamefly = brand new games available at release

"seems Expensive"
to who? y'all do know console gamers spend $60 on one game right soooooooooo if this is expensive then yall need to just stop buying games altogether since it's two expensive for your lifestyles.

Gh05t3397d ago

I don't always spend $60 on a game... But when I do it isn't from the last generation.

Y'all do know that most PlayStation fans have owned or still own most the good games on that list right?

soooooooooo it would mean spending money on games you already own/played or games you passed on because they weren't worth it then and probably aren't worth it now.

I am happy that this service exists... its just way too much money for the value it provides to me personally.

Xsilver3397d ago

"I don't always spend $60 on a game... But when I do it isn't from the last generation."

Um that's the point pay $20 a month for a 100+ games that used to carry a $60 price tag that's value no matter what way you look at it especially if you haven't played those games before and don't have a PS3 or Xbox to buy them but and it's optional so yeah

marlinfan103397d ago

$20 or $45 for 3 months is kind of steep for a monthly subscription. I may dive in for a month and try out but I can't see myself paying these prices regularly

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

Unlimited subscription. Hundreds of PS3 games, UNLIMITED play time. U N L I M I T E D use.

Unlike lame EA access that has you paying a subscription to play games like Madden 14 and FIFA 14.

marlinfan103397d ago

They're completely different services if you ask me. Ea access comes with discounts and early access while ps now is purely steaming old games. For the price IMO, ea access is better but ps now would be cool for a month or two.

NoeLennon3397d ago

Yeah, now you can play Madden '09 from the last generation for 4 times as much. lol. SCORE!

Unlike lame PS Now, that doesn't have any games from the biggest publishers in the business.

Why y'all gotta bicker so much? Both services are interesting, and what it could mean for the industry is massive.

@Volkama- EA Access only offers games from EA, while PS Now has titles from all over the place with much more variety.

I don't know if you notice but those yearly sports releases are the same thing every year with minimal changes.

Also "biggest publishers" is subjective

I'm sorry but what you threw completely missed the barn door.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos1h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).
