Opinion: More publishers need to emulate CD Projekt Red's bravery

CD Projekt Red's bravery in delaying The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt should be commended and imitated by other developers and publishers.

They should also follow their lead with regards to DRM.

MicDude3406d ago

Agreed, seeing as DRM has done little to stop piracy. Some say DRM has made piracy worse.

NuggetsOfGod3406d ago (Edited 3406d ago )

Did they really downgrade PC?
Witcher is cool but medieval RPGs are getting stale for me as well as all the movies

Cyberpunk 2077 and/or Deus Ex universe... Can't wait!

One thing that gets me about wItcher 2 and 3 is the stiff faces in convo.

Over all though I think it will be the best RPG of 2015 potentially.

starchild3406d ago

I've seen no signs of a downgrade. I downloaded the high quality version of the latest trailer and it looks great. All the graphical effects and assets are the same as before.

I have little doubt that the maxed out PC version with it's exclusive graphical features will be a sight to behold.

The Witcher series is one of my favorites. I personally love the setting and all the interesting characters and monsters you run into. But I am also a MASSIVE fan of cyberpunk as a genre and of games like Deus Ex in particular. I can't wait for Cyberpunk 2077.

Viryu3406d ago

There were plenty of "bravery" examples with delaying games since current gen was released, and I can't say it helped. More delays does not equal better game. Duke Nukem Never anyone?

kingjosh18763406d ago

That was going to be a bad game with delays or not, but I think TW3 has great potential and they just need to polish it up more.

Angeljuice3406d ago

Daikatana is another example. Great pedigree (made by John Romero, creator of Doom), tons of hype, huge delays and an abortion of a game that materialised.

It won't happen with the Witcher 3 however.

DarkOcelet3406d ago

You should never compare Duke Nukem Forever with Witcher 3. I get a headache each time i remember that game. How can anyone make such a bad game. They betrayed the fans who were dying to play that game. I really hate Gearbox for what they did to the game.

NuggetsOfGod3406d ago

True bravery is releasing a game that
doesn't need a day one patch.

DigitallyAfflicted3406d ago

I'm finished with pre-orders. Now i want to know that game is good to go. what happen with all the game demos from psx and ps2 era ???? I like to try before i buy. its like game developers are scared you'll find out that game is crap and you won't buy it.

(sorry for my English as its not my first language)

FullmetalRoyale3406d ago

Remarkably, your English is at least as good as the average poster here. You should be proud, and I am not being sarcastic. What is your native language, if you do not mind my asking?

I am done with preorders myself, as well. When a product has been proven by my fellow consumers, is when I'll give them my hard earned money.

DigitallyAfflicted3405d ago (Edited 3405d ago )

My first language is Polish so I'm extremely prod of The Witcher game and Cd Project Red :)

I'm just saying sorry as it happen before i made grammatical mistake and no one actually try to understood what I'm saying insted it all turn in to criticising my english in my post :)

starchild3406d ago

Yeah, your English is great. A lot of people don't know how difficult it is to get to that level of proficiency in a second language. I speak 3 languages well and a little bit of a few others, so I know how much time and effort goes into getting to your level. FullmetalRoyale is right, you should be proud.

Pennywise1383406d ago

I acctually wish that if they have to delay it they push it back even further. I do my most hardcore gaming between September and April. My gaming slows down during the summer time and the witcher 3 is a game I'm going to want to dump hundreds of hours into.

jay23406d ago

No, devs need to not annouce release dates they have to rush or have 6-12 months daylays for or release a broken game and CD Projekt Red are exactly the same, they've delayed the game twice alreasdy so this artical is wrong. Devs need to have a game in a working state before annoucing the release date not ship it broken or wost still delay and still release a broken game.

DigitallyAfflicted3405d ago

Yes. Thats true this pre release hype needs to end. It only raises our expectations and puts more pressure on dev team. I'm sure its some PR and Promotion people trying to prove that they jobs are important :)

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave11d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan11d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

MP games need micros to keep the lights on. Path of Exile is a good game with micros. It can be done as long is the game is not the scheme itself.

CrimsonWing6916d ago (Edited 16d ago )

You end up paying more than $70 in micros for a game specifically designed around them and that’s not a “scheme” by design?

I’ve played plenty of great MP games that didn’t have micros. I love how at one point we were like micros bad, GaaS bad, and now we’re like, well GaaS is MP so it’s ok.

anast15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

Path is a free game. How else are they supposed to keep the servers on? You don't need up spending more . I've been playing the game since the beginning and I've spent less than $20.

Destiny on the other hand....

An MP game embedded in a SP game shouldn't have them.

I know you understand this. I have to be optimistic here.

CrimsonWing6915d ago

@anast

I’d argue “free to play” are more egregious than just a traditional pay to play game. You end up spending far more on a game than just $70 and I think the “free” games are sneaky by design to make a consumer think “well, it’s free, let me dump money into it.” I mean, they’re specifically designed to make you continuously put money into them. I heard with Path of Exile you hit a point where the grind is obnoxious without buying micros.

lucian22915d ago

Odd, I remember micro transactions for Witcher 3

CrimsonWing6914d ago

What micro-transactions do you remember being in Witcher 3?

FinalFantasyFanatic15d ago

I agree, I never pay for microtransactions, and in the few cases where I have, I've felt dirty afterwards, especially when older games used to give you so much content for free (like cosmetics).
