It's almost 2015, and I just beat my first Metal Gear Solid

Destructoid:
"As much as wish it weren't true, it is: I've never completed a Metal Gear Solid until now.

This is a series plenty of you adore playing, thinking, and talking about and that affection has rubbed off on me over the years. It's infectious, but not quite to the point where I've committed myself to seeing the whole thing through from beginning to end. It's difficult to talk yourself into such an undertaking, even if you know it's for your own good, that starting is the hardest part.

Before that day comes, if it ever does, I've got my eyes on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Then again, who doesn't? You read Steven's preview in all its sheep-stealing, horse-pooping glory, yes? Saw the "Nuclear" trailer? I'll be right there with you during next year's launch."

literally everything whats wrong with the MGS fanbase. ALWAYS play MGS games in the release order. THEN come back and play this.

trickman8883409d ago

LOL at the noobs who disagreed. llatpayalannymi is right.

hay3406d ago

llatpayalannymi is right, but not enough right. One needs to play each MGS game at least twice to fully understand all the nuances and connections.

DivoJones3409d ago

I never did play the NES version of Metal gear, but I did start at MGS on ps1, still one of my favorite games to date.

Double_O_Revan3408d ago

I actually played the Original MSX Metal Gear NOT long ago thanks to it being on MGS3 HD. It was pretty cool. It was really nice seeing how the series started and how that game laid out the ground work for the later games to come.

But like many, I started on MGS PS1.

Kurylo3d3409d ago

You didnt really need to play mgs before mgs2 ... they had so many flashbacks of the original game that u kind of knew everything through the story telling.

TheOneWhoIsTornApart3409d ago

A couple of flashbacks aren't even close to being enough to fill you in on the details of the first game. All MGS games need to be experienced first hand to fully understand them.

Kurylo3d3408d ago

I'm going to have to disagree. i played and beat the first one many times after i played mgs2... Really didnt bring anything i didn't already know from the flashbacks. Maybe you just didnt remember that every conversation they had about the past they had a flashback.. hell every character they introduced had a flashback... ocelot had a flashback.. lol.. Hell even liquid had a flashback.. lol.

TheOneWhoIsTornApart3408d ago

A lot of fans like to dig deep in the story and lore of the MGS universe so to me a few flashbacks just aren't good enough.

Ripsta7th3408d ago (Edited 3408d ago )

Just start with MGS1 and work your way up from there, there are plenty of HD collections out there that will do all the hard work for you, best video-game series ever made. Seriously I would argue anyone of you people to death about MGS.

Kurylo3d3408d ago

I'm not going to lie... it is, but i hated peacewalkers gameplay... what a waste.. could have been so good if they made it like mgs3... and well.. mgs4... I liked it, but the story was just way to rediculous... Espeacially raidens portion with the big ass ship while hes on a wooden dock...wtf... lol Even if the story is out there im sure the physics still exist.... Strength doesnt mean defy laws of physics...

TheFirstClassic3408d ago

Peace walker was my favorite gameplaywise, the co op, base biulding, and researchable gear was awesome. Mgs4 had the worst gameplay imo, too many turret and action sequences.

imtheman20133408d ago

I started with Metal Gear Solid 4 because I had never heard of the series before but my friend was really into it. I didn't understand the story at all, but the gameplay hooked me. From there I went and played the original Metal Gear Solid, then Sons of Liberty, Snake Eater, Peace Walker, and Ground Zeroes. It's turned into one of my favorite series of all time, and The Phantom Pain is easily my most anticipated game of... ever? It's up there lol

5 is going to be great, i wish he could remake the NES version.

Inception3408d ago

Now we'll have to see how much the Master Collection will add to those numbers.

Number1TailzFan168d ago

Too bad it was a lazy release. They could've updated the visuals and everything. Missed opportunity.

Stanjara168d ago

...and yet, they couldn't give more respect and effort into the collection.
What a terrible company.

Minute Man 721168d ago (Edited 168d ago )

Are they counting every game?

Edit: they did

Nyxus168d ago

Yes, these are total lifetime sales of the entire series.

ApocalypseShadow168d ago

.... mostly with the help of PlayStation.

Yea I don’t get why they’re allowing old reviews to be posted here. Someone did one on Soul Reaver and I got so excited thinking there was some stealth release of an HD Remaster, but no… it’s just someone who had a slow day posted an old review…

Cacabunga184d ago

I liked the game but for me it felt somehow like a military simulator rather than a proper MGS.. i got bored of that

micdagoat19184d ago

I do wish they would remaster all the soul reavers

micdagoat19184d ago

it was done this morning though

goldwyncq184d ago

The author was in a coma for 9 years and didn't get to play the game when it released.

Chocoburger184d ago

This review arrived just in time for launch. Perfect timing!

RupeeHoarder184d ago

Amazing how bad this game looks already. We keep acting like this gen doesn't feel like an update but I think we're starting to see it.

YourMommySpoils184d ago

Looks better than Starfield, Cyberpunk and most recent games out. Still fine.

RupeeHoarder184d ago

It most certainly does not lol.

andy85184d ago

Have you player Cyberpunk since the first day? It's absolutely stunning now

1nsomniac184d ago

One of the worst games ever made. Absolute overhyped trash!

Snowb420184d ago

The gameplay was great. It was the tacked on open world and repetitive missions that messed the game up.

Shane Kim184d ago

The game started really strong in that hospital, but after a couple of hours I wondered if it was even an mgs game I was playing.

KyRo183d ago

The hospital section was the only bit that felt like a MGS game.

MGS4 was the ending for me. I totally ignore the fact 5 exists. It didn't need to exist tbh
