The Most Disappointing Video Games Of 2016 (So Far)

For the most part, 2016 has been a fantastic year to be a gamer. But like most years, it hasn’t been perfect, and amongst this year’s most anticipated releases, there has been a few games that completely missed the mark.

The Most Disappointing Video Games Of 2016

Dare i say it?...................No fking bloody man disappointing sky's

NXSwitch2773d ago

The game was aimed for Gamers at NASA not us. No apology from those guys at all & bunch of liers!

NoPeace_Walker2773d ago

No question it is No Man's Sky . I wasted $60 for what is essentially a preview indie game and only contains 10% of what was promised. Never been so mad about a pre order purchase in my life.

freshslicepizza2772d ago (Edited 2772d ago )

yup, one of the most hyped games for years, constant delays and when released it was broken and missing promised features plus didn't score very well at all. that's a winning combo if the prize is disappointing for 2016. should be for this entire generation so far.

Skankinruby2773d ago

I liked no man's sky, hell I loved it. Most importantly it was EXACTLY what I expected.

showtimefolks2773d ago

realistic expectations vs gamers own imaginations on what the game should have been

Tedakin2773d ago

Imaginations based on things Sean Murray said and video they showed...........

Aenea2773d ago

@Tedakin

That none of them could've named before someone else analysed every single video and made a list....

EnigmaSG12772d ago

@Aenea LOL, so damned true!!!

Vegamyster2772d ago

@Aenea

So that makes it okay? I clearly remember watching trailer footage of large space battles and being told that we'd be able to side with a faction to help them, something that looked & sounded great but was totally absent from the game. Sure i didn't know or couldn't remember some things like ship classes but don't assume no one knew these things.

deafdani2772d ago

@Vegamyster: there are space battles. You can side with the attackers (pirate ships) or the attacked (cruiser ships).

Not a lie, and certainly not "totally absent from the game". It IS there.

Vegamyster2772d ago (Edited 2772d ago )

I didn't say there wasn't space battles, " trailer footage of large space battles and being told that we'd be able to side with a faction to help them"

Find me footage from the final game that looks like this trailer or shows a faction system that Murray talks about: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Aenea2773d ago

Same here.

Can't wait for a PS4 Pro patch!

x_BlackRose2773d ago (Edited 2773d ago )

Same here. I knew what game I was expecting. I never let my mind run wild like everyone else and then start bashing the game because it isn't what their crazy imagination hyped it to be. The result? I now own an amazing space survival game, with tons of potential and replay value. Really mind boggling how narrow minded and ignorant some people really are .

babadivad2772d ago

What did you like about it? Seems like you just grind to survive on a planet and catalog for no other reason but to catalog. Or grind to the center of the galaxy and start the process all over again. From what I can see, none of your actions actually make any difference what so ever.

That's what I see from the outside looking in at least. I held off on this because I suspected this may be the case when it first launched. There was nothing to say about the game before it launched because there was nothing to do. That was my interpretation of Sean's coyness whenever he was asked specific questions about the game.

Germany72773d ago

Now Recore is on the list too.

lelo2play2773d ago

Seriously! Who had high expectations for Recore?

Even the price tag gave a indication it wouldn't be a AAA game.

MasterCornholio2773d ago

Well after the success of several other 40$ games some people thought Recore would be just as good as them.

gangsta_red2772d ago

People were waiting for Recore and there may have been some excited to play it but it being a budget title and after Mighty 9, there was not nearly any of the same amount of hype there was for it as other similar titles.

babadivad2772d ago

I had hopes for it. I'm kind of disappointed by this. I just downloaded Tales of Zestiria on PC so I will be pouring my time into that for now.

Yetter2771d ago

Its too bad too. The mechanics are solid and tons of fun. There is such potential but some poor design choices regarding the 'open world' and grinding to progress just sour the whole experience. I hope they make another one

showtimefolks2773d ago

to be honest this whole year has been quite under whelming

dues ex isn't as good as human revolution

no man sky got over hyped and under delivered(should have been delayed for atleast 12 months, the potential is there for it to be an amazing game and i am sure over time it will become that but at th moment it's a average game/borderline good

quantum break was legit average. huge budget, countless delays and we have a average story, average gameplay and overall just a very average game

street fighter 5(should have come out in 2017 and actually finish the game development wise and content wise)

star fox zero(oh that aiming controls why can't nintendo just make normal controller game instead of forcing to use gamepad)

mirror's edge(i never expected it to be great and hat's just what the series is good not great

i am not sure if others will agree but so far this whole generation has been very lacking in clear must have titles, i mean xbox360/ps3 started to pick up a lot of steam by year 3

2017 is shaping up to be very good(maybe great)

PlayableGamez-2773d ago

Underwhelming?
Dark Souls III
DOOM
Overwatch (Although overpriced in my opinion)
Uncharted 4
Ratchet and Clank
It's pretty decent for me...

Paytaa2773d ago

4 of those games are from pre-established franchises with Overwatch being the only new one. I am personally still waiting for those new games that are on such a caliber like a lot of the big games from last-gen to come out and be the next big thing. I think some current gems this generation has to offer would be The Witcher 3, Bloodborne, Rocket League, Overwatch, Titanfall, Ori, and Inside.

2007-2008 was year 2 (or 3 in the 360's case) and those were some of the best years for the 360 and PS3. Cannot say the same for 2014 (so many broken high profile games) and 2015 (was fairly decent). 2016 seems to be a bit better, but this generation is very slow and with like every third game being delayed, it takes a while for some really good ones to come out.

PlayableGamez-2772d ago

List me the games that came out 2007-2008 that were revolutionary...

bloop2772d ago

@Playable:
Just to name a few,
2007 had:
Mario galaxy
Halo 3
Mass effect
Modern warfare
Bioshock

And 2008:
Gears 2
Fallout 3
Super smash Bros
GTA 4
MGS 4

I know you could argue that all these weren't exactly revolutionary games, but just shows the consoles had definitely hit their stride by that time and some absolutely massive games were landing.

PlayableGamez-2771d ago

But those are all established franchises accept bioshock and mass effect

bloop2773d ago

Totally agree. This whole generation has been underwhelming so far. So many highly anticipated games failed to deliver, and (for me anyway) there's really only been a handful of games I'd give a triple A, 5 star stamp of approval. I was beginning to think it was just me and maybe my interest in video games waning, but it's not. There just hasn't really been a whole lot of ground breaking titles yet.

gangsta_red2772d ago

"2017 is shaping up to be very good(maybe great)"

I agreed with everything you said up until this point. I remember reading others and also myself saying the same thing for 2015, then delays happened, so then I and others said the same thing for 2016, more delays and disappointments, I can only imagine the same is going to happen for 2017.

There have been some gems here and there but nothing like the 360/PS3 at the same point in time for them. We are nearing past the 5 year mark and already we are either looking forward to the Scorpio or already talking about when is the PS5 releasing.

It has been a pretty terrible gen so far.

Segata2772d ago

I dunno had a lot of good this year for me.
Odin Sphere HD
King of Fighters 14
Pokken (really surprised me as I never played a Pokemon game before this)
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE was fantastic
I found Enjoyment in Star Fox
There is more goodness soon with DQVII and SMTIV Final. Gravity Rush 2

TMNT and Mn9 burned me but I can recover. SFV plays well but yeah needs more content.

Buckshot Roulette (PC) Review | VGChartz

VGChartz's Paul Broussard: "Ultimately, Buckshot Roulette is a fun little distraction that the former stats teacher in me wishes had been fleshed out just a touch more. There’s enough content here to entertain for an hour or so, and while it won’t be the best hour of gameplay you experience this year, it’ll probably be one of the more memorable. Give it a try, and support the developer (Mike Klubnika), so that he can make a sequel where you play Poker against a horrifically toothy version of Clifford the Big Red Dog."

Wanted: Dead VR is Amazing (UEVR Mod from PrayDog)

CG writes: We put Solei’s action game into VR using Praydog’s UEVR mod for a really neat third-person Wanted: Dead VR game. What’s great is that it just works with no tweaking required, other than perhaps renaming the OpenVR folder if it fails to inject. The experience is great as a gamepad, third-person action game. Due to the nature of the gameplay, you need to be able to see enemies who sneak up behind you, so the third-person view is perfect for this.
