Borderline Disrespectful? Comments Made By Various Sports Analysts About Sports Games

SchollA from Console ControllUs - where the console controls us writes:

I always heard this particular comment throughout the years when it comes to sports games and never really thought twice about it but now it’s being unusually said over, and over, and over again, as if it’s the latest trend, with the latest example being made over the recent NBA All-Star Weekend. I think it’s now fringing on being borderline disrespectful to the sports video game industry especially in this day and age. I’ll explain why.

damn...well, thats 5 minutes I wont ever get back. I was watching the all star game and some of those dunks were insane, in the nicest way possible. hardly disrespect. hardly worth writing an article about. Hardly worth the time I just spent reading it.

As long as it's ABOUT Madden I'm cool.

And? No offence but sports games are usually just the same old shit year after year.

Worse then the same old yearly COD games in my opinion

Moldiver3346d ago

I agree, fox. they could just aswell do team updates via a patch/DLC. unlike COD, the setting never changes. Its not like sports teams change arenas every year. The NY knicks court will always look like the NY knicks court. I love basketball ( I even play at my local court, every other sunday) and american football, but I dont buy sports games yearly. Maybe once every two or so years.

In defense of sports games, it's difficult to revolutionize a sport! People who play them don't expect some radical change. What they are looking for is getting closer and closer to 1:1 simulation. (while keeping the fun factor of the sport intact). Which is a tricky thing to accomplish. Sports games are like RPG's for sports fans. They get to take a hold of their favorite player/franchise and attempt to realize their ultimate goals. However, it takes a diehard sports fan to understand this.
As a gamer, I don't look down on sports games (they can be really fun) or sports gamers. It's all choices about how you want to spend your money and your time. Personally, I don't buy most sports games annually. I might get one every other year or so. But, again, that's by choice.

Why was this approved???...

When Kenny, Reggie, and Shaq made comments like this they were referring to games like NBA Jam and NBA Street.. Where real life guys are doing what was only possible in those type of games...

They are actually paying homage... not dissing...

iceman063345d ago

Agreed. I don't think that it's slighting them in the least. They are basically saying that these players are pulling off some superhuman things...things that you used to only see in video games. Hell, many dunk competition competitors have said that video games are often their inspiration to attempt things that hadn't been seen before.

now that was well said...

If Reggie, shaq, or Kenny have played anything as recent as 2k5 I'd be surprised. Obviously they are talking about jam and the old school games. Worst. Article. Ever

Scholla3345d ago (Edited 3345d ago )

Uh....did any of you read the article? Thoroughly? I already touched on the NBA Jams and the older games that those comments would make sense for, I also started by saying not to take this article overly serious, which all of you are doing again it-is-not-a-rant.

byronimus3345d ago

I read it, and I never said it was overly serious or a rant. I just didn't enjoy your article that have to do with pretty much nothing. So what an announcer says he's putting up "video game" numbers. It's not like gamers at home (other than you of course) get their panties in a knot. To the rest of the world, video games are not associated with realism. And they are just using it as a adjective that sounds better than "man, he's putting up numbers that are above average than the rest of the league right now!!!" (Probably what Jeff can gundy would say)
