Will Devil May Cry 5 and Bayonetta 3 have a Semi-Open World?

Bayonetta 3 is was revealed at last years Game Awards and DMC5 is rumored to come out this year! These franchises are some of the best hack-and-slash games in gaming history but will that be enough in the current climate?

If it’s something like Ninja Gaiden Sigma’s nonlinearity then that’s possible.

But for those two type of franchises having an expansive world wouldn’t be very advantageous.

UltraNova2293d ago (Edited 2293d ago )

Both could work if expertly designed as semi-open world from the start.

The real question here should be, is any game going forward not open or semi-world?

When will this hunger for grind and filler be satiated? (There are notable exceptions. Exceptions is the key word, however).

I use to be the type of player who would love to beat DMC1 over and over again on each difficulty. I just don't think that works anymore. Beating Borderlands 2 multiple times to get to max level bore me to tears.

LegoIsAwesome2293d ago

All I know is it's gonna be epic. Both of them.

AZRoboto2293d ago

Nier was a very well received and selling Platinum title. If Bayonetta 3 changes its direction I bet it would go that way.

You are singing some great tunes with that statement!

DarXyde2293d ago (Edited 2293d ago )

Devil May Cry 1 was semi-open world. You could revisit any area during any mission for the most part.

"Open world" in the same way that Resident Evil 1 is open world, if I'm trying to be accurate.

wonderfulmonkeyman2293d ago

I think "back-trackable" is a word that fits DMC1's idea of open world, honestly.
When most people say open world they refer to it in a less linear sense.

DarXyde2293d ago

Fair enough. Yeah, I realize open world isn't quite accurate. Back trackable is certainly a better description.

Spider20992292d ago

One problem I worry about is the moment to moment gameplay. If you make the world too big then the action gets spaced out even more.

Spider20992292d ago

Yes, it was! But I think we can all agree that DMC4's backtracking sucked.

DarXyde2292d ago

That was a next-level shafting by Capcom.

Seriously, you play as Nero and fight all the bosses, only to play as Dante and fight the same bosses (The Savior, Credo, Sanctus, and Dante himself withstanding, of course) in reverse order, followed by Nero taking back control and fighting the bosses for a third time Megaman style. It was pretty insulting.

Ever play the Special Edition? It's even worse if you play as Vergil since he doesn't switch out with anyone.

Bayonetta 3's Director Was Worried Hideki Kamiya Would Interfere

PlatinumGames has released the first of a four-part documentary examining the development of Bayonetta 3. It's jam-packed with fascinating anecdotes from the team, including a rather surprising revelation from the game's director, Yusuke Miyata.

Miyata confirmed that Hideki Kamiya, creator of the Bayonetta franchise, approached him directly to offer up the role of the sequel's director. However, instead of jumping at the opportunity, Miyata was initially hesitant and was worried that Kamiya himself would interfere in the project too much.
