Didnt even reached 1M in a whole month. Both PS4 and XboxOne sold 1M in just 24hrs.

peewee110162568d ago

LoL yeah and nintendo is saying its the fastest selling console ever lol. I guess they forgot ps4 sold 1mil is under 24hrs and xbox took 2 days

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory2568d ago (Edited 2568d ago )

fastest seller console for them
they never said gaming history

plus Nintendo only shipped 2m for launch.

freshslicepizza2568d ago

i was under the impression nintendo was going to have 2 million available for launch?

Segata2568d ago (Edited 2568d ago )

No they said fasted ever for Nintendo in the US. So it did better than Wii first month which is saying something since Wii ended up selling 102 million units lifetime. So if it's any indication NS will be doing just fine.

blitz06232568d ago (Edited 2568d ago )

You do realize the PS4 was released in NA 2 weeks earlier than the other countries right? They had all their stock focused there so they sold 1m in 24 hours. Also Xbox One sold 1m worldwide not NA.

The Switch didn't do a staggered release and as far as I know has been out of stock all the time so if Nintendo did the same they may have sold 1 million easily as well (maybe not in 24h but for sure in a month)

BrandanT2568d ago (Edited 2568d ago )

But it did sell better than both of them last month, and that's not considering that there were only 2 million world wide at launch.

yomfweeee2567d ago

Uhh a brand new console sold more in the first month than 3.5 year old systems? Who would have thought....

Moonman2568d ago

Nintendo did awesome. Makiman is pretending like the console was available all month to buy in mass amounts. Guess what? It would have sold even more if they shipped more.

DialgaMarine2568d ago

PS4 sold out for a couple after launch as well, but Sony's not and manufactured enough units to meet its high demand. Using "well if they shipped more..." isn't an excuse; it's a admission of incompetence.

2pacalypsenow2567d ago

Who's fault is that? that's like me saying the PS4 could of sold over 2 million in 24 hours if it was priced at $299 instead of $399

Istolla2568d ago (Edited 2568d ago )

You realize this is U.S. only...

conanlifts2568d ago

This is only in America, not the whole world. Thats pretty good.

Nintentional2568d ago

READ THE ARTICLE. "The Switch sold 906,000 units in the United States during March". In the US!! This sales figure isn't worldwide sales, you fool.

Soplox2566d ago

Dude the PS4 sold 1M in US ONLY in less than 24hrs. XboxOne did it in like 2 days

Old McGroin2568d ago

Not bad for a March release. Don't think anyone was expecting it to beat PS4 or Xbox sales figures but still very strong. Hope it does well.

mcstorm2567d ago

This is what i find funny. People call the switch DOA. Yet it sold well out of th gate. Then it's well did not sell as many as the ps4 well it had less units available as it was a word wide release. And only 2 million available. For me i think Nintendo will be in for a good gen with the switch. It dose not have many great games at the moment but Zelda has proved it pushes consoles. Add Mario kart late this month and then games like splatoon and Mario later in the year it could really get a big grip of the market.

Uken122567d ago

One word.... Holiday.

There is a reason Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo usually release systems and big hitters around the end of the year (Holiday season). Because they clearly sell more.

Also it sold through all of it's shipments. So I don't know what your point is. Apparently if it doesn't sell as well as PS4 or XB1 did right off the bat during the Holiday, it is a failure?

XanderZane2567d ago

I know, I'm wondering how this is the fastest selling game console when both the PS4 and XB1 sold over 1 million units worldwide in 24hours. I don't even know what the monthly NPD sales were for Nov 2013

https://venturebeat.com/201...

Even in the US alone the Switch was still beaten by PS4 and XBox One.

"Zelda is gonna overshadow Horizon Zero Dawn easily."

Sees both March sales*

(Shit! I forgot PS4's Install base) Aah of course Horizon was gonna sell more. PS4 has a bigger install base

Ok I had to get that out of the way. As a fan of BotW I'm happy for the milestone. Well deserved!

R00bot2568d ago

Wonder if Zelda will overtake it in the long term though, as right now it's basically sold as many as is possible given the Switches install base haha.

Darkfist_Flames2567d ago

well is there anything else?

nitus102567d ago

It may come as a shock to you but the Zelda series is not as popular as Mario and Pokemon. Of course, it does help that Zelda Breath of the Wild is the only serious Nintendo game that is currently on the Switch although that will change over the next few months.

Utalkin2me2567d ago

@AspiringProGenji

Yeah and twilight princess sold like 7 million on a install base of 100 million. So thats a very moot point.

But of course your major zelda fans are going to buy a switch and get zelda day one.

Moonman2567d ago

NPD combines sales of platforms so Zelda is at 1.3 million for March. I haven't seen any other numbers for software. What are the other software numbers for Sony and MS? Zelda is what everyone is talking about today from NPD.

Uken122567d ago

Honestly why do people care about the imaginary race between Horizon and BotW.

This stupid battle between the two is pointless. Just buy the game and play it besides complaining about the one you probably won't buy for whatever reason.

They are both good games. Sales don't mean one game is better than the other btw. Some of the best games don't sell well so the point is invalid.

And Zelda: BotW is better than Horizon: Zero Dawn. Get over it and move on. The Majority of people that play both, reviewers, etc all say the same. It's like Dark Souls to Skyrim. Both awesome games but Dark Souls is a better game. Oh wait, Skyrim sold more....

TekoIie2568d ago

Not bad at all.

I'm interested to see how Nintendos upcoming exclusives affect sales. The Mario Kart series has always been popular and Splatoon did very good for a new IP on the Wii U, but this is where we see if it has system seller power.

ARMS could go either way. I didn't expect Splatoon to sell over 4m so you never know how well this could do.

NotoriousWhiz2568d ago

I've had a chance to play arms and it's actually very fun. It's like wii boxing with more finesse and less waggle.

The 10th Rider2568d ago (Edited 2568d ago )

So Breath of the Wild is the fastest selling Nintendo launch game ever and the fastest selling Zelda game ever. It's also got a 102% attach rate in the US.

I'm just going to leave this here: http://imgur.com/a/LUt35

BrandanT2568d ago

How's an 102% attach rate possible?

The 10th Rider2568d ago

The Switch version of the game outsold the Nintendo Switch, which is crazy. The first time I've ever heard of that happening.

NotoriousWhiz2568d ago

906,000 switches sold. 925,000 copies of Zelda sold (on the switch).

MrMagz2568d ago

There are probably a lot of people who bought Breath of the Wild while not being able to buy a Switch yet, or bought two games in order to have one to play and one to have in box of as a collector's item.

ABizzel12568d ago

Right in the article

"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild also sold over 1.3 million copies. More than 925,000 units were on Switch while another 460,000 were from Wii U. Nintendo sold more of Zelda: Breath of the Wild than it sold Switch systems, for an attach rate of more than 100 percent. The reasoning here “may be attributed to people who purchased both a limited edition of the game to collect and a second version to play.”

nitus102567d ago

Zelda Breath of the Wild is available not only on the Switch but on the WiiU so over 100% attach rate is possible.

2pacalypsenow2567d ago

@nitus10

I think those numbers are Switch versions only.

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 2567d ago
The 10th Rider2568d ago

So the Switch is estimated to be around 2.5 mil worldwide. This year Mario Kart should add another million or two to that, Splatoon will likely be another million (thanks to Japan), and Mario will probably add another couple million. Add in the million or two for normal first year sales and the Switch should have no problem hitting 8 million in its first year. With a Pokemon thrown in there it may cross 10 million.

Now that's not much compared to the PS4, but it's a major step up from the Wii U, which still hasn't hit 14 million sold (as far as we know). The Switch should have no problem selling in its first year what the Wii U did in its first two.

eagle212568d ago

The reports say they will ship 16 million this year ending March 2018.

TekoIie2568d ago (Edited 2568d ago )

That makes me believe there's a pokemon Sun/Moon port in the works or atleast something big coming out this year or Q1 2018 that we haven't heard about.

Perhaps I'm underestimating the selling power of what's currently announced, but it'll be interesting to see what Nintendo has in store for the NS after E3.

The 10th Rider2567d ago

Yeah, there's too much out there pointing towards a Pokemon game for the rumors to be false. With Super Mario Odyssey, Pokemon, and Splatoon 2 hitting 10+ million in the first year is completely realistic. It may not go on to see the same success as the Wii, or even PS4, but it's not going to be a "failure" or another Wii U like some people constantly say.

Dark_Knightmare22568d ago

Only future months will tell if that's the case. The Wii U started pretty well too and we all know how that turned out. I think it will def sell more then Wii U but it will no way in hell reach wii numbers and probably not PS4 or x1 numbers either

TheOtherVitaOwner2568d ago

I think you're overestimating the Xbox one's sales performance. It's definitely obtainable.

https://arstechnica.com/gam...

davand1142567d ago

The wiiu did start off well but fell off starting at the end of the first month. The switch is the second fastest selling console of all time and sold more than double of what the wiiu did in it's first month. With games like Mario Kart, Arms, Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, Xenoblade 2, Mario odyssey, Sonic Mania, and others that are coming this year, the switch is going to sell very well. Nintendo just needs to keep the games coming consistently throughout its life span if they want this console to be another wii. This console will outsell the x1.

Dark_Knightmare22567d ago

@davand I'm pretty sure it's the fastest selling Nintendo console def not second fastest selling console of all time

davand1142567d ago

The switch will outsell the first year of the wiiu by july or august. It will most likely outsell the lifetime numbers of the wiiu by holiday season next year.

The 10th Rider2567d ago

I definitely agree. If they can get Pokemon, Animal Crossing, and Monster Hunter out before the end of next year it could easily pass 20 million before 2019 hits, which would be a major step up from the Wii U.

_-EDMIX-_2567d ago

@10th- if no 4DS shows up and Pokemon and Monster Hunter come.....I see that happening.

They just need to be more firm on whats going on with this other portable they are talking about. I don't want a Wii U vs 3DS situation again and I worry that such a thing might happen if they indeed go through with yet another portable.

Switch as their only device, EASY I see it getting those sales, but only if their focus is 100% on this one device vs picking favorites. I'm going to what ever has Animal Crossing lol

2pacalypsenow2567d ago (Edited 2567d ago )

The Wii U had almost 4 million consoles sold after a month and a half after release, and it didn't have a simultaneous worldwide release like the Switch.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the anti-Breath of the Wild

Polygon: "To get back to the way Ocarina made us feel, it was necessary to reject almost everything about it."

Ocarina of Time changed my life forever, such a masterpiece

Zeldafan64123d ago

Hard to believe it's 25 years old already.

Cacabunga123d ago

The feeling this game gave me the first time i had my hands on it is indescribable.. i still get the chill from that day..
botw is like a spin off of the series.. it’s fun but with many flaws and the most important which is Zelda formula isn’t there..

FinalFantasyFanatic123d ago

I can't even remember how many times I played through OoT, I finished that game, and collected everything so many times.

Vits123d ago

I generally agree with the author here. However, if I had to point out a single game as the 'anti-Breath of the Wild,' that would be Majora's Mask. Pretty much everything in that game is interconnected, relies on something that the player must have done previously, is timed, and can be considered a puzzle in itself.

gold_drake123d ago

but still considered the best of the seties.

i would have liked botw to be more like ocarina.

franwex123d ago (Edited 123d ago )

25 years from today whatever Zelda is out people would too be looking fondly at Breath of the Wild.

Ah the more simple times of the 2020s.

Nintendo not thinking about older Zelda games, "difficult to say" if classic style will return

The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has again commented on the possibility of revisiting the style of past entries in the series – but there are no plans as of now. Speaking with RTL Nieuws, Aonuma said that games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were possible because of what came before them.

Which is very sad. I still wish we could get a zelda like twilight princess, the dark tone and theme in the traditional style. But times have changed and the masses prefer open world sandbox. Smh. Perhaps we can get a proper hd remake of ocarina of time some day.

CDbiggen262d ago

I played 100 hours of Tears of the Kingdom, enjoyed it, but ready for a game like that next.

kythlyn297d ago

If they can bounce between 2D and 3D Mario games, they can bounce between classic and modern Zelda games too. I thought this was a given when the Switch combined a handheld with a primary console.

Inverno297d ago

Then this is where I part ways. I won't disagree with anyone who says that the old formula was getting stale. And I do think BoTW in a few ways was a step in the right direction, but there's way too much good that was left with the old formula in the transition.

CrimsonWing69297d ago

I want it to. I’m sorry, but these new Zelda games I just can’t get into.

Duke19297d ago

Well that sucks. I still love the classic formula WAY more than the Hyrule Engineering Simulator
