Telltale unsurprisingly doesn’t choose to mess with their winning formula in Minecraft: Story Mode. It’s the usual mix of dialogue choices, light puzzling and quick-time-events. Whilst you can build, it’s not a major part of the game and is limited to a few speeded-up pieces where you just mash on a button. The one real nod to the source material is the fact that you have the opportunity to craft a few items, which require you to have the right ingredients and access to a crafting bench. It’s all a little dumbed-down, but still a nice touch. And talking of dumbed-down, so is much of the gameplay.
The season premiere episode of Minecraft: Story Mode has been made available as a free download on multiple platforms, Telltale Games has today announced.

Minecraft: Story Mode is another triumph for Telltale Games, and it’s a surprising one. It should never have worked, which is essentially the unofficial company line for Telltale. The studio takes concepts you could never imagine being draped over its aging adventure game skeleton, and transforms the covered bones into episodic gold dust. As it turns out, Mojang’s galactically popular sandbox game was the perfect candidate for Telltale’s magic touch.
