IM PLAYIN suggests the potential future of gaming.
"A couple of weeks ago, it was ‘Back to the Future Day’, the one off day celebrating the fictional time travel of Marty McFly and Doc Brown to the year 2015, from the year 1985. In the film, Marty and Doc get to experience the wonders of the future, from hover boards to self lacing shoes. Obviously, we now live in 2015 and the majority of the futuristic tech that the film predicted is yet to materialise. But, in the spirit of predicting the future, I thought that I’d take a leaf out of Back to the Future’s book and predict the future of gaming. What will the gaming scene look like in 30 years time? A lot can change in three decades."
Shenmue: Reclaiming the Path is a fan game using Dreamcast-era visuals, and tells a new story within the Shenmue saga taking place in both Hong Kong and Guilin. Its expected to release on September 16th.
Something about recreating old school graphics in an era of HD high poly photo realism just hits a spot. I'm not nostalgic cause I mostly played GameCube and GB/A, but it's a visual style that gets over looked even by indies.
Definitely a fan project. Terrible hand animations. Some characters have very bad body proportions. Some look like little kids in adult bodies. Some have short arms, small head, big hips and so on.
While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.
Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.
It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny
Armored Core VI?
Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.
Is something big coming soon to branch the story?
No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).
CCP Games has unveiled an ambitious roadmap for their sci-fi MMO EVE Online in 2024, headlined by the massive Equinox expansion set to launch on June 11th.
Hopefully in 30 years, the technology would include full body sensory feedback, and uncanny valley graphics. Or maybe The Matrix.
It may be one form of gaming in the future but I doubt this would be the norm for gaming as a whole.
I highly doubt we will sit passive and watch a flat screen in the future when playing games. VR in one way or the other is what I believe is the future of gaming. I'm glad that I'm able to be apart of this form the start.
When I'm a old man hopefully gaming as we know it today will be just as hilarious as if someone told me as a 8 year old kid what gaming would be like today.
Hopefully not lol. We're all gonna look stupid. I can't even grab my soda and potato chips I can't see them and my friends are making funny faces in front of me and I don't even know about it. They're gonna prank me. Then I'm gonna be home alone with the loud headset and VR in front of my face. A burglar enters my house but I couldn't see or hear him.
VR is gonna have an uphill battle as well. We live in the youtube generation where most gamers stream their games and faces. You want that eye contact with your viewers. Having huge goggles on your face defeats the purpose of being a youtube or twitch broadcaster. The point is gamers are set in their ways and breaking them from their routine is not gonna be easy.
We're gonna lose all intimacy with each other. We're gonna be living inside video games. Hurting our eyes and getting headaches. We don't even know the long term effects of VR on every person.
Not for me gimme a controller and a 55 4k tv...
