Where Does Rovio Founder Niklas Hed See Angry Birds in 300 Years Time?

To celebrate the five year anniversary of the original Angry Birds trailer's release, Rovio founder Niklas Hed, and founder of animation studio Kombo Lauri Konttori (who is also current game designer and games team lead at Rovio) were interviewed on the developer's blog. In the far reaching discussion, Hed was asked where he sees Angry Birds in 300 years time.

I like angry birds my son is mad over it.. But 300 years ?

CoyoteHunter3335d ago

Haha it seems like it was a tongue-in-cheek question from the interviewer. But it's still an interesting thought. I wonder how far ahead developers and publishers plan ahead for their franchise. Where does a franchise like Call of Duty want to be even in 10 or 20 years let alone 300?

Solidbrod3335d ago

I don't think it's that absurd of a question haha. You can't enter a clothing, gaming, or toy store without running into some kind of Angry Birds merch.

shipnabottle3335d ago

In 300 years we will have hopefully survived a couple of zombie apocalypses and started to piece our civilisation back together. We might have to hand down some of our knowledge through verbal stories. Hope someone can remember the names of all the birds.

Seriously though, Angry Birds is a classic that whilst it may have peaked some time ago, will always hold some fun memories for those of us back in the day who excitedly bought our first iPhone 3G and went to App Store looking for fun stuff to play. AB was perfect for the early touch screen days.

So much has changed in such a short space of time.

shipnabottle3335d ago

Some of those AB toons are pretty funny too.

I never played Angry Birds, never seen it live, and i'm proud. I won't eat the cereal. Birds with eyebrows i can do without.

IamTylerDurden1369d ago (Edited 369d ago )

Not into mobile. Idgaf. Flex...ok. Angry Birds looks dumb af. Not for me. Not into the acquisition or AB craze. Sorry if it offends you. If Sega wanted in on mobile i can think of 800m better spent.

IamTylerDurden1369d ago

Angry Bird sympathizers. I won't even eat the AB gummies. I stay flexing.

Also, my first post wasn't meant as a flex, i was goofing about. AB does look dumb but idc. Man, Angry Army of bird lovin folk. I apologize. Eyebrows on birds are ok.

XiNatsuDragnel371d ago

Probably getting more devs for arcade, Mobile and console platforms.

Profchaos370d ago

Sega has wanted to make it big in the mobile space for the past decade anyone remember that nightmare called sonic 4

Sgt_Slaughter369d ago

One of the unfortunate parts of my Steam library after I bought one of the Sonic Humble Bundles years ago

Profchaos369d ago

You're not alone I suffered to that character model and animation still haunts me

Nice Sega mobile about to make Sonic mobile

solideagle372d ago (Edited 372d ago )

wow 775 million I thought Rovio was going serious downhill. As I saw multiple youtube videos on it. Rovio was supposed to be a juggernaut gaming company but management they went in all direction based only on 1 IP.

Relientk77372d ago

We are definitely getting an Angry Birds Sonic edition

DarXyde372d ago

I feel like that was kind of what Shadow the Hedgehog was.

Plenty of edge and seething, and if you played it traditionally (without weapons), Shadow throws himself at enemies.

... Similar enough

Fonsecap371d ago

Nah, we're getting Alexx "The Angry" Kid :)

FinalFantasyFanatic371d ago

Oh god, a mobile game about Angry Sonic, I suppose we already have Ugly Sonic, why not?

Sega upping their own value if anyone wants to acquire them! Not just getting console expertise but mobile now as well.

GameBoyColor371d ago

I doubt being acquired is in their plans. I used to think sega was in the dumps like capcom was in 2012-2014 but they own so many arcades, pachinko machines, and they publish western games in japan. They were able to buy out atlus and now this company, i think they in a position to not be touched.

Viljong372d ago

Nice everything in finland is for sale. We even sold nokia and our own electricity network so global corporations can charge us from something that is made with taxpayer money.

Shane Kim371d ago

Hey, kinda sounds like Sweden.

darkrider372d ago

Sega got angry birds. That's crazy. How did Microsoft let this one escape

thesoftware730372d ago

They were too busy buying the company that wasn't tanking. You know the top-rated ones.

Good for Sega, maybe they can right the ship.

The top-rated ones managed by rapists, you mean

If you want to remain relevant you need a mobile powerhouse. MS got Minecraft, maybe King soon, T2 got Zynga, EA got Glu, Tencent got most of the other big ones.

Sony is likely looking for one too or they will be left behind.

Vengeance1138374d ago

Sony already owns the #2 highest grossing mobile game ever in Fate/Grand Order.
That game is close to Genshin Impact levels of monthly revenue.

Lifexline374d ago

Well angry birds still makes money so it’s not a dead horse. They just need another hit.

darthv72374d ago

Angry Sonic, Angry Tails, Angry Amy, Angry Knuckles, Angry Chaos....

Lifexline374d ago

Lol yeah you would be surprised at what could sell. I could see it.

porkChop374d ago

Angry Taxi might actually work.

blackblades374d ago (Edited 374d ago )

Looks like something MS would grab. I wont be surprised some how ms gets Sega with this included magically.

-Foxtrot373d ago

We could fund more games like Sonic Mania

We could buy the music rights back to Sonic 3

We could reboot some old franchises like Ristar, Shinobi, Gunstar Heroes or Golden Axe

...Nah. Angry Birds it is

Snookies12374d ago

Wait, have they even made anything since then? Thought they were a one-hit wonder lol.

darthv72374d ago

I didn't know they did a bunch of stuff prior to Angry Birds:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...

Pretty much everything since has been a spin off. Now maybe Sega will make Angry Chaos or something similar.

FallenAngel1984374d ago

Mojang only made one game and Microsoft still purchased them for $4 billion

Sometimes one property is all you need especially when it’s lucrative

MadLad374d ago

Angry Birds fell out of relevance years ago, but whatever they want to do lol.
