Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy PS4/XboxOne

It looks like Square Enix has said that they may possibly bring the Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy Collection on the PS4 and Xbox one. They have not said anything more then it is an idea they are talking about. Would you spend another $60+ for the remaster all 3?

I'm sick and tired of all these remasters coming out and none are of the games I want remastered. SE is by far the worst one doing it ATM, FFX/X-2, TR, FF13, FF7, FF type O. I'm surprised they haven't started pumping out DQ remasters already.

The FF13 series is not that bad Dragon, I've played worst and played better games. I have platinum trophies for 2/3 of them but can not bring myself to even finish TLOU, Dark Souls or Ni No kuni, let alone a platinum for those. I must be outta of my mind to think that the FF13 series is better than those games? lol

BTW I was pretty pissed about SE trolling us about FF7 though. I would have punched buddy if I had been in arms reach after that reveal.

If these ports/remasters rake in more money than new games, companies are likely going to create less new games and more ports. Developers will be laid off, as the products they're hired for don't return the same money a port would. After all, most new games nowadays are very expensive. Ports require far less money and time, but potentially return the same revenue if not more.

But this is FFXIII here, the least popular FF in a very long time. This entire collection won't sell anywhere near the original game on launch.

I dunno, the games weren't bad as far as design goes. Not the best FF games by any stretch, but when held to regular game standards they come in at least slightly above mid-tier quality. 3rd one was really pushing it though.

I know you hate the 13 series with a passion, but you are obviously looking at it with bias if you say they're terrible in every way, because they certainly aren't.

Anyhow, on topic:

I won't buy it day one either. I already platinumed all three, and while the games were good enough, I'll wait till I can get the whole collection for <$20 on some sale for another run through.

Square Enix are doing a good job at the moment, no need to think they're doing a terrible job just because you don't like the FFXIII series. they're not "Squaresoft good" sure but they're doing much better than other publishers atm.

FFXV is coming along nicely (looking like a March 2016 release) and is looking fantastic, FFXIV:ARR is probably the best MMORPG on the market right now, they're porting FFT-0 (even though it's not coming to Vita & PSP) and they were the publisher that gave us great games like Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Sleeping Dogs, Tomb Raider etc. last gen.

I thought FFXIII was good while the other two were bearable, but people need to stop acting like SE are the antichrist just because they don't like the FFXIII series. many people actually do.

I'm sorry I just can't agree that FFXIII was good. That game started all the hate IMO. Yes Deus Ex was a great game, Sleeping Dogs was definitely a surprise and so was Tomb Raider. I'm not into MMOs like others are. It's nice about Tyoe-O port but that's all they're releasing now... Ports. I'm not holding my breath on FFXV either. I'll believe that game when I see it, after it's released. That's a long time away yet for a game that's been in development for an entire generation already.

I think they deserve what they've caused among their fans. Publishing a good game doesn't mean they themselves are. Tomb Raider and Deus Ex could easily have been published by Capcom and the games would still be good. Eidos are the geniuses there, not Squeenix

I tried final fantasy 13 on playstation now it seemed good with the first 4 hours in. I also liked the demo to the 13-3 lightning returns? The one they changed the battle system. I am not a huge final fantasy player so maybe the real fans are mad, I played 7,8, x, x-2, this one and i love kingdom hearts.

If you played the first 4 hrs of FFXIII then you pretty much played the game. It was 60-80 hrs of linear gameplay , no towns or exploration. This is my opinion.

On the other hand my two daughters ages 25 and 27 love the series. They like Lightning lol.

Agreed. Many don't get that games are contracted out. Square doesn't have "developers" as much as they have teams they hire for a project to project basis.

Many are so damn slow, they legit think that a game is being put on hold because of the ports releasing, they don't fully understand that a port or re-release is barely what one would even call "game development"

Look up developers that port, they are made up of legit..30 to 40 people. Mind you, it could be much less.

I played the whole game and X to win was the strategy used for most of the game until the really tough Pulse enemies and near end game bosses. A team of 2 Ravagers and a Commando rendered any thought completely unnecessary.

I agree. I hated the game and even stopped playing my first time around. When I went back to it, I stopped thinking of it as a FF game, and actually rather enjoyed it.

It certainly had it's flaws, but if it hadn't had the FF name attached to it, then I probably would have thought much better of it my first time around.

I do agree it's the worst FF game though, even including most of the spin-offs.

Sometimes it is difficult keeping the "old" system around since eventually they die and effectively the game you like can no longer be played.

Basically from the PS2 then the first PS3's you had backwards compatibility so it was possible to still play your old PS games on the newest hardware (sort of like PC's), however with the PS4 and XB1 you have no backwards compatibility (I think the Wii U does though) hence you need your old console to play your old games or to purchase a remastered game if one is made.

Note: All PS3's will still play PS1 games.

If I had a PS4 (not yet) would I pay for FF3 and FF3-2 remaster? Simple answer "No" since I already have played the games and if I wished to play them again I still have my PS3 which is still well supported.

Personally I have found that with the exception of FFXII all single player FF games are basically on-rails however that does not stop me from enjoying the games.

During last gen, I bought almost every hd collection of ps2 games released for ps3 and this gen, I have gotten 3 "remasters" and will be getting many more. If you have a PS4 and don't have a PS3 and have never played FFXIII/2/3 then sure but if you think that the FFXIII series is going to be graphically superior on the PS4 think again since the games are 1080p on the PS3/Xbox360 so you probably won't notice much if any difference.

IMHO a remaster of the PS2 FFX/X-2 which is happening and FFXII for the PS4 is more appropriate than a FFXIII/2/3 remaster but that is up to Square/Enix to make that call.

Of course having software that would allow you to play your old PS1 and PS2 games (sort of like the FAT PS3's) would be more compelling for me to purchase a PS4.

It is unfortunate that most PS1 games don't look all that good when displayed on a large screen HDTV although PS2 games are still graphically acceptable when played via my FAT PS3.

They were 720p last gen...the cinematics, at least in the first game were the only thing that ran at 1080p uncompressed on the ps3 thanks to the extra space afforded by the blu-ray disk. And even if they were 1080p, that doesn't mean they can't be superior. These remasters do more than just increase resolution. They actually improve assets and models. Maybe not to the degree of current gen games, but they do actually have higher quality assets which do more for the visual makeup of the game than JUST the resolution bump. Take Final Fantasy 10/10-2 remaster for example. They improved textures in the environement and clothing on character models. Also, in the original ps2 version, there were high quality models used during battle and lower quality models used while you were exploring since you wouldn't get as up close to them with the camera. In the remaster, both the exploration and the battle models are of the exact same quality. So no, remasters are more than just resolution increases.

People ask for a direct game sequel/ total remake of VII; they give you a pretty bad movie, a bad spinoff featuring Vincent Valentine, a PSP game that, while enjoyable, felt limited. Then they give the characters a presence in Kingdom Hearts followed by a PSN release of the original game, followed by a PC HD release, followed by a PS4 port of the PC HD release.

People asked for a direct sequel to VIII; you get a PSN release and characters in Kingdom Hearts.

People played XIII; turned out it divided the fanbase pretty well, followed by a less-than-stellar sequel, followed by a game where the protagonist returns even if she wasn't asked to by most. Never mind the ancient games that could really use amazing remasters, now they're talking about bringing games that are less than 5 years old to the current consoles...

What the eff, my man. Ask yourself: is this the Square Enix you *want* revisiting your childhood?

please square, no. I played through all 3 and I have to say while I actually really liked 13-2 lightning is a character that should be left in the past, she was not likeable whatsoever.
rating of the series:

original xiii ~ 4/10
-the shifts between characters was poorly executed.
-repetitive gameplay and long empty walks.
-the ending was far from emotional, more so cheesy and predictable.
+it gave a glimpse into the past of each character and how their lives began to connect
+variety of different landscapes

13-2 ~ 8.5/10
+new battle elements
+ability to travel back and forth to any location visited to explore and except side quests
+brought focus on a smaller more likeable set of characters
+balanced comedy and drama well especially with its alternate endings.
+incredible cliffhanger which unfortunately lead to a disappointing sequel

lighting returns ~ 4/10
+ new battle system
+ fanservice
- unsatisfying conclusion to the series characters stories.

I don't judge the entire Final Fantasy Franchise on the weight or 'Popularity' of one particular installment, nor do I bother comparing the games to one another for any reason other than the lore they may have as if the franchise is in competition with itself.

The same people who treat FFXIII like it's the holocaust are the same ones who will nitpick FFXV and claim 7,6,10 etc. are much better. There are people who claimed to have stopped playing or lost interest after 9 right, but will still come to a video or an article regarding the franchise just to express they no longer have interest...what the hell for?

Anyway, I may buy this just to say I have it in my collection but it definitely won't be for $60 and it will have to take advantage of the new hardware on current gen in some way shape or form.

FFXIII-2 was a very good game, and if this trilogy includes all of the DLC for it and lightning returns, it will be worth it in my opinion. XIII-2 had really good DLC. Gilgamesh makes it amazing just on his own.

I haven't played these games, largely due to their mostly negative reception, but I have been curious enough that I've kind of been holding out for a collection of them. If this ends up being a real thing, I'll probably still wait for a price drop, but there is a part of me that wants to experience this game for myself and draw my own conclusions, even though I will most likely arrive at the same conclusion as the masses. I just wasn't willing to shell out the money for three separate games to do it.

That is the best way to do it, I think. I do know someone else who liked the first game. I'm not sure what he thought of the second or third because I haven't talked to him in ages, but I won't condemn these games before I see them firsthand. Maybe I will have a differing opinion. I didn't like Lightning, hope or vanille; Sash was a walking cliche, I hated Snow! I hate Snow. I hate snow.

I played the first one, but it could only hold my attention for about an hour. I played the demo for the second and I found it to be pretty derivative of the first one, so I didn't play the third. 13 was garbage, 13-2 was even worse, never played Lightning Returns. While the combat on Lightning Returns seems like it's decent from the demo, after thinking about the 40+ different types of clothing, what's the point when you're going to be equipping either the most powerful or what looks the best out of each respective skillset, especially when most skills you can switch to any piece of clothing you want.

To be honest I think it is all but guaranteed to come out. These games are making their way to PC and from there it's only a stones' throw away to port them to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

NIER was so beautiful if people would gave it a chance! that was epic! i didnt understand its story until the 3rd ending. i started thinking What if im really killing people and was the bad guy! it seemed reality flipped. it was an amazing game.
