On topic, I find IGN to be sensationalist (I mentioned that in another review). They are either too eager to give a game a stupid-high score or ridiculously low score. Here and there, they get it right, but Joystiq is what I use because I agree with them 9 out of 10 times. I managed to validate this by buying games before reading reviews in the past, giving my own score and then checking. The consistency is oftentimes amazing, so that's my reasoning. I guess since you have the two reviews, just see what they talk about and find out what's consistent and what differs. Then again, who needs review scores at all? ;)

I don't get why everyone is concerned with the reviews of this game. It seems like the only complaints with this game are the bugs (which will be fixed), controls (I think that they are great), and the story mode. I don't think anyone buys this LBP for the story. We all know that the main selling point of this game (the creation and community aspects) will be fantastic.

Maybe they took on to much with a PS3 and PS4 version.

Either way it sounds like whilst the game has plenty of good points the bugs really hamper the experience (even the editor hints at the end, had the day one patch fixed the bugs the score might of been higher).

How does a reviewer try a day one patch when the review is written before it exists/is available? Even if she used the patch she'd have to go through the entirety of the game again to check for those bugs. Doesn't make sense.

IF that is the case I stand by what I say that IGN are right to lower the score.

However a 6.8 for a game with game breaking bugs is still a great score, fixing said bugs could push it to a 7.5 or maybe even an 8.

I reviewed it for PS Nation. I had the Day 0 patch, there were bugs in the game. The details listed for the Day 1 patch covered a number of the bugs I came across.

Not a single thing I ran into would be considered "game breaking". I was able to play through the entire story, connect to other players, try created levels, you name it.

These are not ' game breaking' bugs smh. Those would be bugs that make the game unplayable or unbeatable or unenjoyable because of frequency of them happening or etc. Everything else besides a few hiccups makes the game look amazing and a blast to play. I honestly can't wait to play it when I get home, and can't wait to see all the amazing levels people will create over it's lifespan.

The odd thing is that only IGN is reporting such extreme problems. Other reviewers and day one users are reporting stability.

Is the day one patch the issue?

Who knows. All I can say though, is that is a pretty dumb reason for a game to have a mediocre score, when the ONLY version that will EVER be played by 99.9% of users is vastly better.

There are several other reviewers giving it between an 8 and a 9. So I don't think this review is the one I would go with when it comes to getting an impression of this game. I usually do watch IGN's video reviews though and have found that about 90 percent of the time it is good and helpful. But seeing as how this is so much lower than every other review I have seen, I don't think I will believe it.

Lucy O'Brien and her reviews are schizophrenic. She will praise a game in the review, but then give it a low score. I feel like she harped on the single player too much an didn't give as much weight to the creation process, which is what this game is all about. Why does COD get a pass on having a bad single player? Reviews these days are a joke. I will read the content, but not take the number into account. Also, the female reviewers are great to have on IGN, but I want a male to review some of the things they are reviewing as well. That way we can get a male and female perspective. I feel like I have seen scores from females that are lower because of their tastes being inherently different. A prime example is the complaint of too much gore or violence, I appreciate the heads up, but I want a male's take on it as well.

Cant please everybody. Bound to be a few reviewers that dont like it. But if 2/3rds are saying its good then its fair to say, its a generally good game, by the standards of those that have played it. Whether or not the game is for you personally is another story, but overall, its scoring pretty well.

People trying to act like AC Unity is just a completely broken buggy mess, while LBP 3 has "a few bugs".

Unity hasn't been a buggy mess for me. It has been completely stable and I've had no bugs that affect gameplay. The only things I would like to see improved are some of the asset popping on NPCs and some of the glitches with their pathfinding and motion. But considering how many thousands of NPCs I see in Unity every time I play it it's not that surprising that I would see some glitches in that aspect of the game. None of them have really affected my enjoyment of the game in any way.

Far Cry 4, for example, is an amazing game and one of the best I've played this year.

Wow, what is happening with these big name sites recently?? I'm not saying this game doesn't deserve the score it's got but it seemed back in the day every respectable site would sort of agree on the quality of a game. Now it seems any game a site gives a perfect score gets a truly mediocre score somewhere else, it's hard to separate common objections from weird personal quirk problems like a game not being to a specific reviewer's taste.

Really? Amended reviews are the worst, the games should be shipping in a finished state, not patched to it later on. Anyone looking at this review for information should know that without a patch the game may perform poorly. The issue is that Unity has more issues than LBP3, yet has a higher score. There's nothing like Halo's matchmaking problems, but it has a lower score. It's made worse by the fact that they acknowledge there's a patch to get rid of things they complain about but refuse to play it post-repair.

It's selective punishment, or some other such nonsense. Treating your favorite child better even when they do the same as or worse than another child.

I get that, to some, reviews are supposed to be subjective. But there used to be a time when there was more objectivity than not in game reviews. When a journalist could speak on both the quality, and their personal tastes, without mixing the two. All that's gone, though; now, if a reviewer doesn't personally like a game, the readers hear that the game is bad, not that it might still be for them.

Seriously, though, you act as if someone is attacking an exclusive on YOUR favorite console. Your defense of AC:Unity in light of its rather universally observed flaws is disturbing.

I never understood why ppl make a fuss out of a review or opinion. Just try out the game yourself and see if you like it or not. I never care about ratings. I take the comments and opinions and see for myself if they are true or not. And how they reflect on my gaming experience.

I recently played CoD: Modern Warfare. While I personally think it was fun to play it actually felt like the last CoD to me... the gaming experience was the same. Which does not necessarily mean that it is a bad game.
Fallout 3 crashed a lot and had many bugs that never had been fixed but I could play it again and again...

I don't know how games get 6.8 / 10 for some bugs. Yes, I hate bugs and they are annoying no matter where they are in the game, but if the publisher has a history of fixing their bugs (like Sony does) than the game should be rated for what it will be within a few weeks.

Rating a game into the ground because of a few initial bugs is stupidity. But, I also agree that it is stupidity to ship a buggy game.

Last generation Microsoft had a policy for size of patches and charging pubs for patches. Gamers thought this policy was stupid and actively lobbied to get it removed... Gamers got what they asked for and now there are very few games that ship working fully on day one. I understand this policy hurt some indie devs, but the new policy seems to be a free ride for all pubs to ship bugs and broken MP. Thanks, to all those that thought no control on patching and charging for patching was a bad idea. We are only going into the second year of this generation and I have already seen more games buggy on Day One, than the entire last generation... Halo, DriveClub, AC Unity, LBP3, DR3, Lords of the Fallen, BF4, etc...

Even as an X1 fan I have to say this review is bogus. It seems to me that the new "in" thing to do for reviewers is to hammer on AAA titles. Obviously their goal is to get hits and low scores help achieve that. Metacritic has become a farce with amateur reviewers. However IGN should better than that.

The main franchise attraction for me has been the coop platforming (similar to New Super Mario Bros.), the limitations implemented have really turned me away from this game.

Is anyone else having trouble unlocking the LBP1 and LBP2 content from the options menu? To my knowledge, it must be done by going through your options while in the pod. Every time I try, the game locks up...

I'm playing on PlayStation 4, but the option is available there. I assume it's not meant to be an issue.

Is IGN payed off by microsoft this gen or something? Every playstation exclusive IGN just seems to hate, and they jump for joy with their microsoft reviews. Then you go to other sites and fine the exact same playstation game rated quite a bit higher than what IGN gives them..smells biased.

I enjoy just hitting YouTube & getting general folks reviews of games. It's a great way of finding out people's own views & approaches on gameplay. Some sites seem to play console wars rather than games, & some reviewers seem to, well. Not be very consistent.

I simply don't understand game reviews. I am a fan of LBP and I don't get how this could only receive a 6.8. Based on art direction, Level editor, and millions of user levels this game deserves a better score. Even if it didn't contain a campaign this game deserves better. The reviewer played this game before launch and criticized bugs that will be fixed. But Halo MCC has much bigger bugs and it received a 9. Borderlands 2 had major bugs (many of which still havent been fixed) and it was considered a GOTY. GTA 5, Skyrim, etc., all featured major bugs and were docked this much. Terrible review imo.

A man has never cared less for reviews than this gen lol. Infamous, First Light, Killzone, and now this are all rated below BF4 (numerous examples but that's a good one) on PS4? Really? Going by metacritic a man has enjoyed a lot of 7-8/10s more than a lot of 9/10s this gen and last. Who cares guys? It just delegitimizes them giving such spectacular games such terrible scores.

What a awful couple months it has been for buggy, broken, unfinished games. I was expecting a 7.5 which I'm guessing this would be after they patch the bugs.

Well I certainly am a Littlebigplanet fan and I love where they've taken it. New everything. A lot more fun and exciting although I must agree with the reviews here. You're very fortunate if you haven't encountered the "ground breaking" bugs yet but the ones I have encountered completely stopped my progress. Every character disappearing on the map no matter what I restart. Spawning and instantly dying over and over upon entering certain levels. Not being able to unlock "Toggle" even though I've collected all of the ball thingies. Also the floor is missing where the little puppy guy? (I forget his name) is even after I've unlocked him, played as him once and came back to nothing. Every time I go near my co-op partner most of the time we both lose our equipped popit gadgets. My clothes keep coming off and my equipped popit gadgets keep coming off in mid-air (Especially the rope sliding one) causing my death. Falling through the floor never to die but to keep falling seeing the broken pieces and blocks underneath the level like it's unfinished. I was having a blast for a while. LBP is one of my favorite games. I hope they fix this so I can finally continue. :(
