Bethesda Comments On The Evil Within's PC Framerate; 60 FPS Possible

An official post by Bethesda on it's official boards has revealed that it's possible to play the PC version at 60 FPS, only by using console commands as the game is designed by the team to be played at 30 FPS.

They should have said that from the beginning to avoid all the backlash.

the_dark_one3480d ago

well to be fair they didnt officially announced how many FPS they wore going for, everyone just assumed on pc atleast would be 60

DevilOgreFish3480d ago

"An official post by Bethesda on it's official boards has revealed that it's possible to play the PC version at 60 FPS"

...that was quick. the PC community is always finding workarounds to things. "sigh", It just sucks that Bethesda made it be this way.

tee_bag2423480d ago (Edited 3480d ago )

It is silly. If ever a game is capped to run less that 120/60 a quick fix is always found. I don't know why Devs even bother trying to cap it. Well I do know why..hahaha, but they should just give up.

starchild3480d ago

Exactly. It's stupid. Why not put a setting in the menu that allows people to cap it at 30fps if they want to?

It seems that Japanese devs seem to do this a little more often for some reason.

Volkama3480d ago (Edited 3480d ago )

@Starchild Dead Rising 3 is actually from Vancouver I think? And Need for Speed Rivals is the other higher profile 30fps game off the top of my head, which isn't Japanese either.

I actually don't mind it really. Framerate can effect more than just the raw refresh of the display. Physics and AI can be tied in with it, depending on implementation. They can't realistically QA every combination of settings, and in a mainstream product it makes perfect sense to "hide away" any options that fall outside of the quality assured scope.

The settings are there, but they're hidden; you only use them if you are an advanced user and you know what you are getting into.

Agent20093480d ago

I'll probably wait till a patch arrives.

Plagasx3480d ago

This trend with locking PC games to 30fps has to stop...

2pacalypsenow3480d ago

Why? if they want you to play a game a certain way , its their decision they are making the game

KillerResistance3480d ago

so if you had a Really good gaming Computer you would want this game at 30fps or 60fps? 30fps looks really bad on PC Games tbh.

tee_bag2423480d ago (Edited 3480d ago )

Let me guess. You're one of those people that actually believe 24fps is for the "filmic look".

Hey, I've got some snake oil to sell you!

There is no situation where 30 is better than 60. Or 60 is better than 120.

2pacalypsenow3480d ago

@tee_bag242

Well if you like watching soap operas ...

Pandamobile3480d ago

What a stupid mindset.

You could argue that framerate is an "artistic" choice for film, but for games it's merely a technical limitation. No game developer in their right mind outlines 30 FPS as a feature.

Why not just have a checkbox that you can toggle in the settings. They can even enable the 30 FPS lock by default if they're SO inclined. Don't make PC players jump through hoops just to have a basic feature like this...

Eyesoftheraven3480d ago (Edited 3480d ago )

This is a little annoying. Especially for those, like me, who have 120+Hz monitors. I have a GTX 780TI and thanks to the insanely high 6gb VRAM of Shadow of Mordor and now 4GB TEW, it feels considerably outdated. Ridiculous. There isn't even a 980 SKU you can buy with 6gb VRAM yet. WTF? These new "PC-like" consoles were supposed to help real PC games, but apparently optimizing from unified GDDR5 of PS4 to dedicated system/video RAM of PCs is out of the question for developers.

GamePeace3480d ago (Edited 3480d ago )

I am a PC gamer myself. You do not need 6GB of vram for Shadow of Mordor. A 2GB version of the gtx 600 series is more than sufficent for ultra settings. You need only 6GB of RAM and not 6GB of memory on your graphic card. This is what we call poor optimized.

xPhearR3dx3480d ago

Actually, if you want the use the texture pack supplied by the developers, which is basically worthless because it hardly looks better, you do in fact need 6GB of VRAM.

Lon3wolf3480d ago (Edited 3480d ago )

@Phear

Erm no I played Mordor with Ultra textures and ultra settings on a 4GB 970, fact.

starchild3480d ago

But it's true that the ultra textures in this case don't look significantly better than the high textures. I'm able to play the game with high textures on my 2GB GTX 770.

The game is pretty well optimized in any case.

Truehellfire3480d ago

Exactly. They are basically foregoing any optimization. At 1080p no game should be using over 2GBs of VRAM. Battlefield 3/4 has giant maps with 64 players with much better visuals and detail than this game and it only uses around 1.5Gbs of VRAM at 1080p with 4xMSAA. Crysis, though not as much going on in game but arguably the best visuals in existence uses around the same.
I would cut a fully open world game some slack but 4GBs seems excessive for 1080P.
PC games shouldn't be locked in at 30fps either (even though you can unlock it with this game, but that shouldn't be necessary). The benefit of a PC is that the framerate is up to you. Want to max out visuals and have a lower frame rate? Cool. Want to have lower visuals but better frame rate? That's cool too. That's why PC gamers are PC gamers. They have more freedom.

tee_bag2423480d ago (Edited 3480d ago )

What's happening is Developers are simply using VRAM as if it's regular RAM so that ports are easy. Very lazy practice for PC.

This practice is actually slower for CPU draw calls in the long run and even 6GB Vram isn't even enough to store decent high res textures - Think 50GB installs with half of that being textures. That's why SOM has so many repeated texture and they still look like a$$ even on ultra.

So even if you have 6GB Vram the games are still going to look like average/Console quality unless they code them to use RAM appropriately too.

Raider693480d ago (Edited 3480d ago )

Its simple, dont support this crap publishers and developers, once more talk with your wallets or this is going to get even worst!

Bioshock 1 only has the intro though, would you kindly pick up that radio? :p

Original FEAR is a goddamn masterpiece

ModsDoBetter348d ago

Was playing Alien: Isolation again a few weeks ago, still holds up and the AI is incredible.

F.E.A.R. was another amazing game, shame the series went downhill with 2 and then fell off entirely with F3AR.

Couldn’t get into Fatal Frame, bought the remaster on PS5 and just…couldn’t.

DeathTouch348d ago

Fatal Frame 2 is an underrated masterpiece.

gold_drake348d ago

omg that game freaked me out haha

Abnor_Mal347d ago
