Ubisoft selling over twice as many units on PS4 than Xbox One

Ubisoft is selling over twice as many units on PlayStation 4 than Xbox One, figures from the company have revealed.

Hopefully this means that not only Ubisoft, but all developers stick to next gen only much sooner.

20% is high considering there are more than just cross-gen games being made. There are games which don't even appear on new-gen consoles in those stats, and that drives the numbers down. This new-gen is starting off very well, but it will be another year before the ultimate phasing out. About a year from now, we'll probably only see sports games and a few others still being developed for last gen. After the holiday season, more people will have new consoles, and the development will shift more.

Way to ignore the context here. There's more than 140 million PS3s and Xbox 360s combined out there, as opposed to around 14 million PS4s and Xbones combined.

20% of total game sales, in that context, is quite impressive. It means the new gen consoles are having a strong and fast adoption rate in terms of games.

Massive install bases do not just go away overnight. Did you think that just because new tech came out that people would just throw away their ps3 and 360, hell there is still a decent amount of people playing PS2. Pro Evo Soccer 2014 was released on PS2 back in Feb of this year even though the PS3 has been out for about 8 years and the PS4 has been around for about 8 months.

This will be the norm this generation. Sony's gap is increasing, not slowing down. MS needs to dig deeper and find ways to make the X1 more appealing. Maybe another price drop and removing all the apps, except online gaming, from behind the pay wall (XBL) and offer better content discounted and for free.

You shouldn't crap on indies, they form a SUBSTANTIAL fraction of game sales these days, and the huge amount of money they generate with relatively low investment earns publishers a lot of the money that serves later for AAA titles.

Glad to see the PS4 staying ahead, which is good for everyone. If the XB1 was selling more consoles and games than PS4, MS would have more leverage with their parity clause, and all multiplat games would be restricted to the lowest common denominator then ported upwards. Just imagine if all next gen games had the graphical fidelity of Watch Dogs (actually it would be worse), cause that is what would happen if MS got their way.

Gamers everywhere, even those on PC, absolutely need the PS4 to stay in the lead. Because the last thing gaming needs is more of MS's dictatorship of "If we can't have it, nobody can". Those of us on the PS4 and PC's did our homework and picked out the most powerful machines available, and it isn't our fault that MS chose to use inferior hardware in their console and we certainly shouldn't be punished for it.

XB1 and PS4 both hit 3 million in December, then PS4 went on to hit 4 million in December.

If PS4 is at 9 mil now and XB1 is at 4.5 mil sold to customer, that would mean PS4 has sold around 5 million in 2014 while XB1 has sold around 1.5 million.

So far (and I'm ashamed to admit I've given ubisoft this much money) this gen I've bought the following games from Ubisoft in order of personal preference

Valiant Hearts: The Great War
Child of Light
Assassins Creed Black Flag
Watch_Dogs
Trials Fusion

I really liked previous Trials titles but I felt the latest one was lacking in both aesthetics and features.

I never got to finish Black Flag, Watch Dogs came out while I was half way through it and distracted me, I'll get back to it eventually.

Child of Light and Valiant Hearts were definitely the best offerings from Ubisoft for me this year, good value for money though I'm well aware it's not the majority's cup of tea.

Definitely have bought more Ubisoft titles in the last 3-4 months than I ever have before, so this leads me to believe I'm fully responsible for the increased ps4 figures. It was me guys... sorry. I wasn't thinking. /s

This early on there is basically few exclusives that you could be bothered to compare systems with 2 or 3 yrs from now yes.

When a vast majority of games are multiplatform, that is what the largest discussion will likely revolve around.

System specs are important to both sides regardless of who is better, because neither side(sony/ms fans) wants nintendo's model of paying premium prices for old and dated hardware.

Microsoft got LUCKY last gen, what with Sony losing their minds with pricing structure and manufacturing costs, etc..

Honestly though, the reality is that a healthy Sony is very much necessary to the gaming biz. Nintendo is irrelevant, and nobody... I mean NOBODY wants Microsoft dominating anything with their pocket book. In general people are just not very excited for Microsoft branded products, why should the gaming industry be any different?

Microsoft was never credible in the gaming space, as it was. But this generation we actually see what happens when Sony decides to COMPETE. They WIN.

I mostly agree with what you said except for the Nintendo being irrelevant part. They personally don't interest me much, but I know there's a smaller, but very passionate market for them and they would be heart broken if Nintendo went away.

I want competition, but I think Sony and Nintendo are all that's needed to keep each other in check. While MS has brought some good things to the industry, I feel their bullying tactics where greed is the only motivator has brought a lot more bad then good.

I own both consoles, and enjoy both for respective features so I don't have an allegiance one way or the other. I think you are being a bit bombastic whenever you say that Microsoft has never been credible in the gaming space. They've admittedly taken some steps backwards in that department this generation,but they've never been credible. Any objective gamer knows that since they entered the console space they've made relevant contributions, and the game industry as a whole is healthier with their presence and added competition. I love Sony, and until Halo, would've called myself strictly a PlayStation gamer. I'm glad to now be able to enjoy both.

It seems as though a vast majority of people still have absolutely no understanding of what Microsoft's parity clause actually entails.It only applies to theID@Xbox program, and it has nothing to do which graphical parity. It simply states that any game released through the ID@Xbox program must be released simultaneously or prior to competitors' platforms versions of said game. Even that I don't agree with, and I expect it to be done away in the near future. We're already seeing Chris Charla make exceptions with certain indies. One of them being Outlast. We've consistently seen third party multi-plats release with a higher resolution, and steadier framerate on the Ps4. Third party developers are almost always going to, on their own accord attempt parity across both platforms especially considering the very similar X86 base architectures that both systems are built upon this gen. We have both systems in my house, and I know that our Ps4 consistently outperforms my X-One in third party games. So whatever sinister graphical parity clause, that many of you seem to think that Microsoft has been able to convince developers to adhere to, it doesn't seem to be working.

While I own a PS4, so I guess this is good news, I think the more important factor for us gamers is that the figures for current gen are increasing (PS4 & Xbone) while last gen consoles are hopefully on the decline.

We really need devs to stop developing for last gen and focus on current gen so we can start getting games which are optimised for PS4/Xbone.

As for Wii U, I think Nintendo will take care of their own system with their usual top notch first party games (eg. MK8 & SSB).

Yeah hopefully cross gen development dies by the end of 2014 and big games like fallout 4 ect go current gen(pc, xb1, ps4) only.

Watchdogs got 2\3 of it's sales from current gen install base, going to exclude pc(no idea install size) so from a 14-16 million install + pc it sold 2\3 vs 1\3 from a 160+million ps3\360 install base.

The 1\3 that bought it on last gen will likely upgrade this holiday or by 2015, let that cross gen development die already.
