Debunking Reasons People Give To Not Have The New Consoles

The least Sony and MS could have done was strike a deal with TT Games for a x Gen season 2., seeing as PS4 isn't BC.

Its silly to bounce back and forth between systems considering TTG WD is an ever expanding series. Just port the dam episodes over.

I've been play PS4 for a month without turning on PS3 until today. And I really got use to the PS4 and it's crippling playing a PS3 it feels clunky, slow, choppy, jaggy, chuggy etc.

Some of these games on PS3 are nearly unplayable to my standards now. The comparison is almost like watching a HD video compared to 480i cable TV and then some chugging.

3rd party still support PS3 while Japanese dev ONLY support PS3. While MS and Sony are working very hard to make games for their new console... NOT!

Only sunset overdrive and Infamous look fun, while they're making crossover games SMH!

(I mean if they made TLoU, LBP or forza next gen only it would make the new consoles more worthy but no, they're making it crossover "and a port for TLoU situation". A good reason for me to NOT upgrade till early next year atleast.

Counterarguments:

Backwards compatibility allows people who SOLD they're last gen console for a new one to play old games, and people who had the opposite console last gen to play the other ones exclusives.

Many of the games people want on Current gen consoles are available on last gen consoles. When people say a console has no games, they're referring to the EXCLUSIVES, the REASON to own a current gen console!

Yes, the current gen consoles are cheaper than past ones. BUT 400 BUCKS IS STILL EXPENSIVE! You can't expect some people to be able to afford that without selling their last gen consoles, bringing us back to backwards compatibility.

I own a PS4 myself, and I can tell you all these "excuses" people come up witn are valid.

My problem with #1 is your TV only has so many ports, you can only plug in so many devices into your powerstrips before you create a hazard, and entertainment center only has so much space. You can't keep all your previous consoles running

But on the other hand, I understand that backwards compatibility with last gen wasn't really an option with the new architecture. Wii U did it, but the price they paid is a vastly underpowered console, the Power architecture simply hasn't kept up.

Love this article, I am so irrevocably sick of all these "too-cool-for-school" ; Negative Nancy's commenting their filth all over everything next-gen, trying to ruin it for us who love our awesome new consoles to death, and the reality is most of them are just butt-hurt that they don't have one themselves.

This is how gaming works, a console releases, it's "the platform" for a few years, and then either the next iteration is released, or the it's left with it's legacy. Playstation has only gotten better over the past 20 years, the PS4 is a true example of that.

Except that your reasoning is pure nonsense. I'd love a PS4, but I'm not about to invest $400 + another $50 for a PS+ sub just to play a bunch of games I can easily play on my PC. Until the heavy-hitting exclusives appear, I have no plans of picking one up. Not to mention the myriad of hardware issues people have been having with them, like my friend who has had his since around late January, he has to hit the power button a billion times just to turn the damn thing on, and even when he finally gets it on, the thing will randomly shut off sometimes.

I'm just fine waiting, using my PS3 for some older console-exclusive stuff and my PC for everything else.

The way i look at it is how much of that is exclusive content, i have a PC, Wii-U, 360 & PS3 so there really isn't much incentive to drop another $800 + subscription fee's for just a few exclusives.

It's not about finding something to play. It's about wanting to play it enough to spend $400 +.

There are several games already out that I'll buy on sale at some point, but none that I want to play badly enough to get a new console. Destiny will push me over that edge, along with Driveclub a month later. Hopefully by then there will be some news about Planetside 2, but if a Planetside 2 beta starts before Destiny releases I'll buy a PS4 just for that beta.

why SHOULD I get a PS4?
the only games coming out for it are shoddy remasters of games I'm already sick of.
Evil Within is coming out next month, but the graphics look pretty bad so I think having the 'worse' version won't make much of a difference.
Plus I suspect hackers will figure out how to get the game rendering at full screen instead of letterboxed, the way they did for Beyond Two Souls. If they do that, the PS3 version will be heaps better.

I played Beyond Two Souls in full screen last night and the graphics are fantastic, we don't need new consoles, only the developers need new consoles since it's "hard" to make high quality games for the PS3.
Without any developers taking advantage of this it's simply pointless to own the console.

I imagine I'll get one next year when the games actually come out.

I think the biggest problem is that consoles are lacking of games from certain genres; RTS, simulation, 4X, grand strategy, complex RPGs, etc.

That has got to be one of the dumbest articles i've ever read...telling us to go buy a console because it has plenty of games. Yet he didn't say that out of all those games only a handful were worth buying or playing... And i really hate when people compare past systems prices with "adjusted for inflation" as if that's supposed to make us feel better...$400 is expensive no matter how you slice it...

I didn't buy a 360 until it was $300 which at that point i felt it was worth it. He tries to justify the price by suggesting and comparing ways to save money for it. REALLY?! A cup of coffee?? But i don't drink coffee everyday!!... For me it's not about the money since i can go out and buy both systems tomorrow. I'd just rather spend $400 on my car's break job than on some game system at the moment.

You idiots act like buying a new console is a short term investment! When it's a long term one. See I jumped on the next gen ban wagon because Last Gen was old and boring and lasted way too damn long. I knew TLOU and GTAV where gonna come to the next gen consoles. And there isn't anything I want to play on PS3 and definitely not 360. So I got my PS4 and X1. And it's a long term investment after I get my Wii U I'm set for many years.

This doesn't debunk anything aside from the author's poorly constructed strawman arguments and false dichotomies.

There are so many more ways to look at the issue than the author would have us believe; his points aren't worth a thoughtful rebuttal themselves when you consider how narrow they are.

For example, on the issue of price, it isn't so much a matter of dollar amounts as it is the relative value to the individual. It doesn't particularly matter whether or not a console is $400 or $4000, if it isn't worth that much to the prospective consumer, then that speaks directly to said console's value. Comparisons to previous generations is arbitrary, as there are a whole host of relevant variables that the author fails to take into consideration.

As for games, that's a simple one; no matter how late the library, if there isn't one compelling piece of software within, then expect people to say so. Furthermore, this is also relative to the individual, so the author can't sit here and try to shoehorn his preferences onto everyone else and declare that as acceptable. Doesn't work that way.

His points on BC represent the best example of a strawman, as I can't recall anyone saying (seriously, anyway) that they would never buy the console without it. Regardless, if it's an important feature for some...who are you to tell people otherwise?

The author didn't think this through as thoroughly add he'd have us believe.

i agree; as for the backwards countability even though it's not an important feature, when making the transition to next gen and there is a small pool of (good) games to choose from it is a nice feature to have if you have a big library from last gen...i wouldn't care if it's just a handful of good titles done through emulation like they did with the 360 when it 1st came out.
