Develop 100: PS4 named best console by devs

The PS4 was named as the top console amongst developers in the newly published Develop 100 Tech List.

Of course it did, the PS4 wins every head to head battle.

Hardware sales, software sales, average game rating, media interest, specs, games being developed, controller design, etc.

Thing is, this was based on developer perception of PS4 versus other consoles as oppose to the quality of the games. But I agree that the actual library of any console, not just PS4 is debatable when comparing it to others.

Titanfall - 86

Forza 5 - 80

kinect sports rivals - 61 (Lame)

Dead Rising 3 - 78

Ryse - 60 (Lame)

Zumba Fitness World Party - 73

Fighter Within - 23 (Utterly worthless)

Out of seven games only 2 can be labeled very good, 2 others can be labeled decent and the other 3 are definitely ready for Xbox Live Gold free games, because they SUCK!!!!

Delays happen a lot in the gaming industry.

They get delayed and they STILL come out buggy messes. Look at watch dogs with the 90% load error just as an example.

I wouldn't mind the delays as much if they came out and required NO patches (like the old PS2 days).

It sounded like Sony spent a lot of time talking to devs to find out what they wanted in a console. It's what led to their GDDR5 decision, for instance.

I would say PS4 wins every category except the ones that are of people's own opinion. Those would really be excluisves, and controller design. Ps4 still has more exclusive franchises and really a more innovative controller though, but still, people have opinions.

As a owner of both every time I play my X1 and then use my PS4 I realized how PS4 is overall the better console. (Just my opinion) Everything about it is just simple and sleek from the Dualshock 4, to the tiny design of the console, to the simple interface. I love that console and if Sony brings the top critically acclaimed exclusives like they did since PS1 then this my go down as my favor it console ever. I love my Xbox One it's a beast also , they both are but the PS4 just does everything better for me. And for you it may be the other way around, you might think the X1 is a better console and that's ok it's your opinion. Congrats to Sony all I have to say is just keep up the exclusives like you always did in pass generations.

Sony set up their current success after learning some painful lessons last generation.

Last gen, with the PS3, they had incredible hardware...that was incredibly difficult to develop for.

This gen, before even writing the specifications, they TALKED to the developers and LISTENED to what they wanted. This resulted in a console with a more powerful GPU, and 8GB of GDDR5 memory. They made their development tools easier and more intuitive to use. They also ACTIVELY reached out to "indie" developers, and put in place policies that made it FAR easier for small studios to publish their games than on the competition's console.

The end result is the most powerful console on the market, with the most games. Those two lead into them having the highest sales...since Sony focused on making the best GAME CONSOLE they could at the $399 price point rather than trying to take over your entire living room and loading the console up with expensive gimmicks.

Anyone surprised by Sony's success this generation (or the competition's abject failure) really just hasn't been paying attention. I could have told you that this would happen when both consoles first launched. It was pretty obvious Sony would have the advantage once both consoles were unveiled.

PS4 eased development environment compared to the difficult architecture of the PS3 shows a complete reversal, and a company that has both it's eyes and ears open.
