If you've got kids who like toys and play games, it's a no-brainer. If you really want to be sure, there's a tablet version that you can download the first level for free to try it out, it's EXACTLY like the full console versions. You'll need a tablet that runs it, any tablet made in the last year or so should run it just fine, but if you've got an ipad 2 or earlier, or a first gen ipad mini, it won't. You should look it up on Activision's website to see if ...

Yes and no, the figures actually have memory chips that save that characters levels/upgrades/accessories. To switch to another character, you take one character off and put a new one on this little USB Portal device.

The games themselves are Diablo-like RPGs that are more aimed at younger audiences. There's some decent platforming in the latest versions - the first 2 games in the series didn't have jumping.

Storywise is pretty generic 'stop the ...

It's a Diablo-like RPG with fun characters. Pretty sure people enjoyed playing Diablo, yes?

Tell ya what, if you've got an iPad/Android tablet that can run it, you should go download the Trap Team app and give it a shot. Play the first level. It may not be your thing, but there's no arguing that it hits their target market well.

Pretty sure the full install of all XB1 games is mandatory even off disc, so you'll be using 60-70gb regardless.

(Weird, can't reply to your 2nd comment. Heh!)

None of the follow-up games have been released in Japan. It's not only the game, it's the packaging of the toys and and obtaining shelf space that can get pretty expensive. I think they released SSA as a test and if it did well they'd port the rest, but alas.

They only released the first Skylanders game over there (late, I think it came out in Japan AFTER Giants launched elsewhere) and it failed miserably.

Odd, too, seems like it'd be right up Japan's alley.

Fair enough, in rereading my comment, I wasn't clear - the PS4 does indeed have better hardware specs. I don't think anyone doubts that. MS made several decisions that will hamper its abilities, and PS4 games will look better than XB1 games down the line.

But people shouting that the XB1 is 'incapable of HD graphics' is just silly.

I'm not saying it's as powerful as the PS4, you're right, there are clearly drawbacks to some of the choices they made. But are you really saying that the XB1 is 'incapable' of 1080p/60fps? You are going to feel silly when Wolfenstein comes out - it looks damned good, and it will be 1080p/60fps on both XB1 and PS4.

Can you please just admit that launch games don't look as good/run as well as later games? You'll look less silly a year from now th...

What are we going to talk about next year, when Devs get better SDKs that make 1080p/60fps commonplace on both systems?

1548d ago 0 agree4 disagreeView comment

My God, when are the Sony fanboys going to remember history? Remember when the multiplat games for the PS3 were clearly inferior to the X360 versions? Eventually the devs started understanding the PS3 better and the games got better looking and faster.

The same will be true for XB1. As the devs get better at squeezing every ounce of horsepower out of it, the games will run better. 1080p/60fps will be standard, if not this coming Christmas, the next.

Look, there&#...

Um. Really? So the news that Wolfenstein will be 1080P/60FPS on both XB1 and PS4? What does that mean?

Yeah, this is pretty much a spot-on writeup. They don't have a review score but I'd guess it would be a 5 or 6 out of 10.

Say what you will about Skylanders, but they do a nice job of making each character you buy change the way you play the core game, so it doesn't feel like a ripoff. Disney Infinity does just the opposite, where the characters pretty much feel the same, but you need to buy more figures in order to unlock more Toy Box content at the core of the...

..you guys get that Skylanders has made more money than EVERY OTHER SPYRO GAME EVER MADE COMBINED, right? I'm surprised that I have to point that out, but the comments here make me think I have to.

The game is selling fine, it's just slower compared to Giants at the same 3-week point, but as they say, it could be a number of issues that aren't related to the game's quality. It could be that people are saving up for a new console thus aren't buying immedi...

Or, you know, you guys MIGHT want to consider taking them at their word. They've been spot-on with their previous Skylanders predictions. There also can be no question that some people could be waiting for the next-gen consoles to drop and then buy the game for that console instead of the 'old' one. I know I'm waiting for several titles to come out on the next-gen consoles before buying.

But no, you're right, the most successful game company can't p...

I really wish N4G would split off the 3DS reviews for Swap Force. It's a totally different game from the console versions.

1667d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

I’ve played both Swap Force and Disney Infinity, and it’s not even close. DI is buggy and because every character pretty much has to have the same set of moves in order to function correctly within the Toy Box, they all feel similarly generic. Every DI character has to have the same double-jump/ledge climb mechanic and a generic set of attacks with different effects. Each Swap Force toy you buy feels like a completely different character, giving you an entirely new way to play through the cor...

Odd, the review gives 4.5 stars out of 5 but the N4G article doesn't. Can you edit it?

Is there anything to do in these Toy Boxes except walk around and occasionally do crudely-developed minigames? I played the Trench Run and it was incredibly rough, I did Disneyland and it was completely non-interactive, I did Columbia and got seasick grinding on the rails.

I really cannot figure out who their audience is. Kids are too young to navigate the menus and create content, teens and adults are too old for toys.

It's got some fun ideas, but holy crap is it unpolished. The Toy Box is the star of the show - those who put in the time and effort get rewarded with an impressive display of potential creative content. But getting there is torture. I had anticipated having a couple hours to kill this weekend, I had thought I'd pop in DI and try to play through the Monsters University to completion to unlock spins. And then when the time actually came I just didn't want to; I dreaded spending my...
