The lunar new year is like christmas, new year and birthdays combined in Japan (and most other asian countries).

It makes sense that sales would drop across the board for all consoles after that week, the same way that sales drop significantly after Christmas in the US.

I was surprised at seeing the PSP ahead of the DS too. But I guess everyone in JP already has a stack of DSs.

Agree with you. I think Capcom could have implemented this better. For one thing, they should have made it optional.

I *want* developers to take advantage of the hard drive to improve my gaming experience.

I can understand why they wouldn't want to advertise that. Fodder for the fanboy wars.

Not a big deal for RPG fans who are used to switching discs but if GTAIV comes out on multiple discs, there might be a problem.

I'm in NYC and have a FIOS connection so I'm not sure why it takes 5-10 mins to download settings. I've configured port forwarding on my router and even put it into a DMZ but it doesn't seem to help. But once I get past that, getting into matches is no problem.

I assume that the first screen hits some central IW servers that are getting hammered during the times I log on. Anyone else have this problem?

If they can make the PSP2 smaller by removing the UMD drive, I'm all for it. Plus carrying around a collection of UMDs diminishes the portability of the device, just like we had to carry around a stack of CD's before iPods came out.

Perhaps they could release a UMD drive attachment so you can play your library of PSP1 games but I would prefer having games loaded on memory sticks (locked to discourage piracy of course) or downloaded on to the device.

The CELL chip was designed to be scaled up or down so it could probably be done. Would be cool if the PS3 could use external CELL chips to assist in processing, running folding@home across the PS3, PSP2 and Bravia for example. Not sure how that would work with games though.

I really like my PSP slim, especially its connectivity to the PS3 but it's still a little to big to carry around. If a new PSP2 came out that looked like the fan mock ups that have been posted recently I would get one in a second.

They are probably just staying in so their retailers can clear the remaining inventory but Toshiba should just bite the bullet and officially call it quits.

All they're doing now is pissing off anybody who unwittingly buys an HDDVD player over the next few months. The damage they are doing to their brand is probably going to cost them more in the long run than just writing everything off as a loss.

360 has the edge in multiplat games (except for Burnout) but that's expected given the install base. PS3 versions are not doing bad at all considering this is just the UK chart.

Interesting that the highest charting, non-Nintendo exclusive is Uncharted: Drakes Fortune for the PS3 at position 28.

The timing is right for PS2 owners to start moving up to the PS3. The 2007 lineup was for early adopters and to introduce new IPs, 2008 is when the major franchises move over bringing an army of PS2 fans to the next gen platform. Should help with HDTV and Bluray sales as well. Sony's strategy seems to be playing out favorably.

The BDA is doing the right thing by making features optional. Not everyone will be interested in the BD Live features so why force the manufacturers to implement them if they are targeting customers who don't care. It allows the manufacturers to differentiate based on features or cost, depending on which customer base they are targeting.

Think about it. By the end of this generation we'll all own multiple BR players. One top end player hooked up to our big 1080p display, our 7.1 ...

The PS3 will have a long tail, just like the PS2, so they'll eventually break even on the hardware. I don't think the PS2 broke even until they came out with the slim.

The real money is in the software anyway, which is why they need to drop the price as fast as they can to increase the install base early in the cycle.

Higher adoption rates increase incentives for developers who produce better games which increases the desirability of the platform which means even hig...

But it looks like it's going to pay off in both bluray and PS3 sales. Bluray won because of PS3 and now PS3 is more attractive because it includes a Bluray player. Well done!

If things don't turn out as bad as predicted then everyone will be happy.

I'm of the opinion that a recession will actually help console sales, as more people will stay in to save money then blow a few hundy every weekend going out.

Digital downloads might replace rentals for me but there are some movies that I will want in my personal collections. Those I'll buy on Bluray.
