Honestly, I think she is making educated guesses disguised as privileged info.

The statements are broad enough that some of these things could easily happen, but that would only make her lucky, not right.

The Skyward Sword rumor in particular is unlikely to pan out. The game seems to be nearly finished and Nintendo has had an almost empty slate of releases for the Wii this year. It seems like a shoe-in for an October/November release (if not earlier).

No, we can't admit that, because it makes no sense.

Why would Nintendo be screwed? Honestly, I can't even begin to understand that claim. Please elaborate.

This is an interesting argument, but I think it's marred by some false ideas:

1. That the next system must either be a Wii 2 or a traditional "hardcore" console. Most likely, it will be neither. Even ignoring the fact that all of the rumors point to significant changes over the Wii, Iwata has been very clear about not wanting to simply make the next system an improved sequel. Nintendo is likely to try to launch some new control interface and/or some other featur...

This was a pretty haphazard review. Game Informer seems to struggle when it comes to reviewing Wii games.

I wish the review had spent more time discussing the bugs mentioned near the end and less time griping about story. I could care less if the story is awful. I was expecting that. I want to know if the bugs are game breaking.

Absolutely agree with this. I am so tired of the jaded, ultra-violent, hyper-masculine world of video games. The best Nintendo games remind me of the sense of wonder that I had when I started gaming. They are about cultivating glee.

Now, don't get me wrong. I still love a well executed FPS or a open-world crime simulator, but it's the pathological way that our current crop of teenage/young adult male gamers cling to these games as the only true measure of gaming quali...

That "little" corner of the market is the market. It's actually the PS3 and X360 that are catering to a niche market.

Mind you, I'm not talking about quality here. I'm talking about sales. The Wii and DS have reached a level of market penetration unrivaled by the two HD systems. That's simply the sales reality.

Hardcore gaming--ew, hate that term--is the niche market. It's a specific group with a specific history who are largely...

If it does have dual analog sticks, I hope shoots will still support Wii Remote + Nunchuck style aiming. Ideally, they'd offer both traditional (dual analog) and light gun style aiming. With PS3 shooters now integrating Move support, it'd be a step backwards for Nintendo to do anything else.

Presumably the system will still support Wii style controls, if the backwards compatibility rumors are true.

I think it's definitely possible.

Although May seems like kind of an odd time for a price cut, given that Nintendo will still be focused on early promotion of the 3DS. They're holding back new Wii software until after E3 to keep the Wii from cannibalizing 3DS demand, so it seems odd for them to try to stimulate demand with a price cut.

A price cut to $150 sometime between E3 and the holidays makes a lot of sense though.

While I agree that he could have put it more tactfully, it honestly is a stupid question.

If the NGP and 3DS were releasing during the same one or two month period, or if ads for both systems were airing simultaneously, then you might be able to make this argument. Most consumers simply don't make purchasing choices the way this question imagines.

Yes, some educated gamers are probably holding out for the NGP, but the average shopper doesn't know it e...

Actually, Nintendo usually has at least one big July/August release.

The drought is usually around January - March, with titles coming out in May, June, July, and/or August, then a break until October or November.

But the early drought this year was worse than usual, without even minor first party releases, aside from Mario Sports Mix. I think this may have more to do with 3DS promotion than the Wii's successor though.

I actually think we might hear something about Xenoblade before E3. They've already announced the European release, and the Wii's schedule is totally empty. Also, Xenoblade is a low visibility title that would just get buried by bigger announcements at E3.

I suspect it might be released quietly in May to give Nintendo of America a revenue and positive press going into E3.

I do agree that we probably won't hear about a NA localization of The Last S...

Actually, I might be tempted to buy the next Madden game if they added contract negotiations.

If Nintendo is publishing Xenoblade in the US, then I think TLS is a safe bet. The Last Story is from big name talent, has gotten more US publicity and has higher production values than Xenoblade. It is also probably cost more than Xenoblade to develop.

The only way I could see Nintendo of America failing to localize TLS would be if they had no interest in publishing JRPGs. If this rumor is true, that's clearly not the case.

Also: Woo, have been waiting ...

Hopefully all three will make it to North America.

I don't think there's any question that DQX will.

4766d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

God, I hope not.

One thing that Xenoblade has going for it is its strong critical reception in Japan. Disaster got pretty tepid reviews and weak sales, which is probably why NoA opted not to localize it.

Other than Disaster, is there any recent precedent for Nintendo localizing a game for Europe but not North America?

Uh, read the article before you comment. This is based on claims made on the product's packaging, not on 20 hours of straight play. That's why so many of the comments are skeptical.

There's a difference between voicing an unpopular opinion and being blatantly unprofessional.

Saying Oracle of Seasons/Ages is better than Ocarina of Time is voicing an unpopular opinion.

Ranking a game without playing it is blatantly unprofessional.

Would a movie reviewer rank a series of films without watching all of them? Of course not. Would a reviewer for a tech magazine rank smart phones without using them? God no. Would a music mag...

I think it's time for Nintendo to actually release their lineup for this year and some preliminary release dates, but I'm a realist, so I know that's not happening until after the 3DS's release.

4788d ago 5 agree0 disagreeView comment

Low Wii sales are a casualty of a really weak slate of early year releases, which in turn is a result of Nintendo's marketing strategy.

They don't want high profile Wii games to cannibalize 3DS sales.

4788d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

I'd be shocked if Skyward Sword didn't release this year. Sure, 3DS will take some pressure to perform off the Wii, but do you think Nintendo would honestly go a full year without a single high profile release for the system?

Plus, I think releasing Skyward Sword and Ocarina 3D in the same year is part of Nintendo's Zelda 25th anniversary plan.
