I wouldn't call selling a million copies a 'bomb'. Also, there wouldn't have been a sequel released last year if it bombed.
I don't like it. I don't buy it. I'm not 'inflicting' anything on anyone. Just making an observation about the quality of games being developed.
Wordpress formats weird in the article. You have to click them to see the full image.
I'm going to echo Aeon.
I'll admit it's rushed to market, which is why so many models and skins look the same. Sure, if they poured another 6-12 months into it, it'd look more unique, but to what end? Why spend 12 months on lipstick and mascara?
You seem to have drawn a false corollary. No where in the article is there any commentary about physical versus mental addiction. Your argument is that I, the author, do not understand the difference. In fact, the statements made in the article contradict that argument directly, pointing to examples of behavioral addictions which have received scientific validation and comparing them to video game addiction.
The article isn't about that, however, nor is there any citation...
Still one of the most awful video game movies ever made.
To the defense of these parents, he did pop out of his room here and there to eat and shower...
On the other hand... how do you not poke your head into his room for four days? I'm obviously more nosy than these people.
Agreed. I'm cautiously optimistic.
The article doesn't mention anywhere that other games are crap. Just that those listed are of particular interest to me.
Play your Guild Wars... I just don't plan on joining you.
I've never really been a big sci-fi guy. EVE is a great game, but... enh. Not really my thing.
I'm actually kind of happy there's not an archer based skillset. Archery has never been done well by any game I've yet seen. It's always either super overpowered or it's been nerfed into oblivion. Not using one removes the chance of failing at it.
Extra jiggle physics isn't sexy.
Slow news week. Wait til Mechwarrior Online goes to full release.
The question posed by the title is an interesting one (even if it is totally stolen from The Dark Night). The question I would ask is 'Who is We?' Is 'we' the individual gamer or the gaming community as a whole? Because that changes the response dramatically, based on who is responding... of course, it's 4am, and I have a head full of bourbon, so I might be over-analyzing... ;)
Note, most of the comments are regarding the basic foundational game design, not things that are likely to change post alpha.
The sad fact is, no matter how many beta tests a developer runs, little things will always slip through. Sometimes it's because they're overlooked, other times it's because the bug can't be reliably reproduced or the cause found.
Until the developers can comb through every line of code, and every interaction of 1's and 0's, there's just no way to put out a completely clean and bug free version.
Why THANK you! ;)
Unicorn farts. Nuff said.
Damnit... beat me to it. ;)
There's talk that it's dumbed Lara down, much like Other M made Samus into a whiny, subjugated, brat.
