you are completely ignoring all fact and just pointing to the past, flash is getting cheaper and cheaper and disks less and less viable. this is the kind of thinking that makes companies turn into blackberry. Supply for disks will go down dramatically over the next few years, making them more expensive. There has been a couple of revisions, plus some are quieter than others even within the same revision. The newest ones are pretty quiet and use less power. I think they even use a different type of power cord now.
As less and less people buy disks they won’t be mass produced for so cheap, meanwhile flash memory is getting cheaper. It’s not about how much they cost to make, it’s about how much they can make with a factory producing disks vs flash media. If you are selling much less of a product you have to charge more for it to make money, simple math when you look at the entire picture. Flash memory games are fine in my book, probably will cost pennies to make in a few years.
I could see them using some sort of flash memory, prices are going down and as optical disks become less common it will no longer be feasible to make them. The video game industry alone isn’t enough to justify having factories making optical disks, especially when more and more gamers are going digital only. Unless of course the factories start charging much more for each disk...

There really isnt that many open world game with a ton of missions, but those tend to be the most popular games of today. Red Dead 2 is pretty long, but spider-man can be beat in what 10 hours? Of course red dead 2 is the top selling single player game this year, so its length gets more noticed than all the 12 hour games. Also some open world games are meant to be a sandbox where you can just keep playing and the game will keep giving you random things to do, like skyrim.
Still pretty easy to avoid, and outside a few notable exceptions still pretty niche. Most single player games are around 12-20 hours, even if they have bunch of optional content or rpg features. Of course there are exceptions, but that doesnt mean games keep getting longer.
See for me the best part of the game was the side quests, that’s a sign of good game design through. It satisfied different types of gamers.
I think red dead 2 in its current state would be unplayable with keyboard and mouse, there is so much input lag that it would only feel playable with a controller. Not sure what causes so much input lag, its even on the xbox one x.
Games are getting longer? RPGS have been long for decades for crying out loud.

If you look at the cards they have a huge die, which means they cost a lot to make. People might say the rtcores are a poor design choice, but that’s another topic.

Ya thats how it should be, but in this game offline and online are integrated and I dont want to lose the co op experience.
