I think the UI changes the gaming experience. Do you have an xbone? While Kinect might not be integral to the UI, using it is a next-level experience.
From auto-sign-in and facial recognition to voice navigation, from skype to knowing when you're not using the controller, there's a long list of nice little touches that Kinect adds to the experience. Kinect also works as a IR blaster - I don't remember the last time I used the remote to turn on my TV and surround ...
You're spot on, 4Shot. I've been a long time xbox supporter, and I own both systems, and it's obvious the PS4 is the stronger machine when it comes to games, but the Xbone interface is silky smooth. Everything about it as a multimedia machine is better IMO. The only way MS can compete is to KEEP the Kinect AND drop the price. With both consoles at $400, this is a whole new ball game.
Is there any news when they'll update to allow for 3d playback of blurays?
Even when playing in the dark, my 55" LCD does a pretty good job of lighting up on the room on it's own. Next to that, the lightbar is barely noticable.
I agree it's appropriate for TLOS. But for every game that uses profanity maturely, there's three that are just gratuitous and using it because it makes them feel "grown up."
@r2ob
I think the relevance is when Sony boys come in here to shit on the technical aspects of an xbone game, despite the fact that it's fun as shit. Pixel counters are just so boring.
It's true. Because without the 1080p side by side, no one can tell the difference. But we do get the xbone OS, which is actually pretty sweet and innovative, once you take off the flaming fanboy glasses.
Still more fun than your simulator that will never actually simulate how it feels to drive a car.
I know I'm in the minority but I don't care so much about the resolution. There's a lot of other things graphics can improve on. Higher resolutions usually reveal how lacking things like anti-aliasing, textures, lighting, etc are.
Example: I can watch Wall-E or Avatar in 720p and they still look impressive. Not saying there's no benefit to resolution, just that it's not number 1 on my list of priorities.
Talk about off topic... lol
@wishingW3L: you're correct with everything you said except for one thing: 3D. I hate active 3D - it hurts my eyes while passive is much easier for me to watch, not to mention cheaper. Ggoing for 55", it made sense for me to go LED. With local dimming, the blacks are comparable to plasmas finally, the profile is razor thin, and it saves about $80/year over plasma on my energy bill. And at 240hz, it's super smooth when I need it to be, ...
@archangel
I disagree. When Kane was released, it was a critical and commercial flop. It wasn't until decades later that it's artistry and reinvention if cinema was appreciated. Longevity is essential to the appreciation and understanding of art.
I think the author's points are well made and thoughtful. I can think of any games that were revolutionary, but they exist now only in our collective memories. How easy is it for someone to be introduced to what ...
Welcome to your fake outrage of the day.
Who's "much bigger" than the USA?
It's unfortunate that we're mostly talking about what this MS exec didn't say rather than what Spielberg and Lucas did say.
Off-Topic: You feel ashamed to be a gamer? Because it's a business? That generates profits?
Drama queen much?
There's more to life than just DRM.
Honestly, neither one of them looks very realistic. They both look cartoony.
Pretty underwhelming. I don't want more access to TV and sports. I want games. This really turned me off and really gives me pause when thinking about what to buy next gen.
Off topic @xHeavYx: You were "nervous thinking that xbox would have a ton of stuff"? What kind of bullshit is that? Straight up fanboyism at its worst, nervous that a game company might actually have good IP's and stats. Runs completely contrary to what being a gamer is, i.e. the motherfu...
Forza absolutely has a better interface. Cleaner, sleeker, simpler and faster. You can spend an hour on GT5 and between finding the right car to qualify for the right race and such, only 10 min will actually be spent racing. With Forza, you're racing when you want to. There's always something to do and you always feel like you're making forward progress in the game.
Completely agree. Underwhelming doesn't begin to describe this. Maybe they should have provided a direct feed instead of letting some joe shoot off the screen. (Love that moray.)
Looks. Exactly. The same.
Willing to bet they're already taking a loss on these consoles, both MS and Sony. The games and services is where they make their profits. I'm sorry you didn't like Kinect. I think it's next level and where interfaces will be in 10 years.
