If your rig can handle 100fps at 1920 x 1200 resolution then you might want to try upping it to 2500 x 1600 (assuming your monitor can handle that). Cost you a bit in fps but nothing noticable I would imagine.

Dawn of War II was pc only as well? But your point is taken about making cutting edge pc games, though I would point at Crytek and look at what they're doing.

Graphically, their 2007 Crysis is still unsurpassed and whilst they only made a moderate profit on the game, they are due to make a large profit on the licensing of CryEngine 3 because of their reputation made from that game. In about 2 years there's the MMO version of this game comming out, until then single player only.

It's a great game, Diablo gameplay meets Freerealms graphics basically.

A good way for me to get my rpg fix before DA:Origins gets here.

Maxis (sim... about everything, spore) is (very nearly) PC only, they haven't exactly done badly.

Blizzard (WoW, Diablo, Starcraft) I think have one or two dollars laying around from making PC games.

Crytek (Crysis) I think even managed to make money on a pc only game despite some rather high piracy rates and (at the time) stellar system requirements.

It will potentially change the market from how we recognise it now.

It will provide more competition to large online retailers who currently have the cheapest prices but it won't create a monopoly anymore than supermarkets hold a monopoly over CD or DVD sales.

It may well force cheaper prices due to economies of scale and being able to sell at a loss which in turn could force lower digital download prices.

The downside is I fear for those smaller softwar...
