A Nintendo Theory. What Can Save The Wii U and a Huge Win Over Their Competitors

Well since the launch of the Wii U last month on Nov 18th. Thing's haven't really gone Nintendo's way has it? Some will disagree and most will agree. Yet could there really be an answer to what Nintendo has planned down the road that most of us just don't see coming? Perhaps there might just be more light at the end of this dark tunnel of disappointment after all, Maybe, just maybe. Now before i begin i just wanna make one thing clear. This is not facts, rumors. This is just a straight up Theory i have that could turn the tides for Nintendo and make there new Console a huge hit.

Over the last few years Nintendo has been getting a bit of 3rd party support that even to this day gets question as to why these developers are making there games for Nintendo and not on the other platforms. Games like Monster Hunter 4 that is coming to the 3DS, The last Story, and now with Bayonetta 2. Yet lets focus our attention on Bayonetta 2 just for a min as i believe this is just the start to what Nintendo could very well be doing and that most gamer's just don't see coming. Now many gamer's question as to why Nintendo would even supply the money to get Bayonetta 2 made and be exclusive to there very own console. Nintendo has no reason to support this game at all since the first game after all was never ever considered for there console in the first place. Now could this be just to try and get Platinum games under there belt or is there more to this aspect as to why.

I strongly believe that this is to get a great relationship with Platinum games but its also Nintendo providing proof they do indeed care about the core after all. This is where my theory starts to kick in. We already know that Microsoft and Sony will have a more powerful system on the market come time by the end of 2013/2014 if we are going based off Rumors here. Now what can Nintendo do that will result more people to go out and be proud they own a Wii U next to the gamer's choice of next gen console. Yet before we dive into that, lets go back to this gen we are still in. Show of comments, how many of you only ever use the Wii for first party games and never touch it or barely use it for 3rd party games? I'm sure most of you out there do. Yet what if this problem were to not be an issue for the Wii U. Now you may be asking yourself, how can Nintendo do this if the same problems that dazed the Wii with lack of 3rd party support were to kick in again. Ahh but there is one glaring problem that can easily overshadow this dazed effect for Nintendo. In my opinion if Nintendo doesn't want the same issues happening with the Wii U like it did for the Wii, Nintendo should indeed go out of there way and support 3rd party devs and get those 3rd party Exclusive titles. Give those gamer's out there a reason to buy a Wii U or make those who do be proud and glad they did get a Wii U and give them that upper edge and not make the Wii U not become a closet console 2 years in for most Gamer's.

Now most of you are thinking, Nintendo won't do this. If they really want to make a name for themselves and convince gamer's out there to run out and buy there console and prove that specs isn't the end of be all for consoles. Then this would be the better approach for them in the long run. Imagine if Final Fantasy V.S 13 were to come out under a different name and Nintendo supports Square and get's this game released for the Wii U only or games that tons of people are just waiting for like Timesplitters 4, Kingdom hearts 3, and many other games that were to come out yet we have not seen any news or official cancellation regarding those games. Yet remember canned games can also come back from the dead. Bayonetta 2 already supports this.

So were could this lead Nintendo in the future if this were to happen for them? Will it convince you as a gamer to run out and be more then happy to own a Wii U or will you just not care for it but at the same time give credit to them for doing this? Share your thoughts.

I didn't pick up the Wii U but that don't mean i won't. trophies are now a big part of my gameing but there not the end all of gameing. Somethings are a standard today and achievements or trophies are part of that standard. I don't understand why nintendo failed to had them but they still may one day. I don't think the Wii u is under powered and i think people are going be disappointed when the ps4 and next xbox hit. High power comes at a cost one which i can't see them doing in this economic. As for nintendo i think there going be fine and i see them investing in places we wouldn't expect.

tbh i dont think achievements/trophies are a standard they never will be i use to be a huge achievement whore playing everything and anything to get them but lately ive switched to pc gaming and couldnt care less about achievements.

they was a cheap way to make people buy games that they normally wouldn't and they have caused too many games to have sloppy mechanics just so they could put in a few extra achievements i would be happy if they went completely, we might get better games then.

I think your abit too early with this article to say it needs saving give it more time it just released.

At 1.8 million units and counting, I didn't know if the Wii U needed saving. Give the Wii U at least 6 months to a year and then we will see if it needs saving or not. I heard theses doom prophecies concerning the Ds, 3ds, Wii, and PS3 and they seem to be doing alright.

I do not condone the idea of them going out of their way and paying 3rd party devs to release what should have been multiplat exclusive to their system. That kind of strategy is disgusting and is only used if you have a weak 1st party offering not to mention the losers will be the gamers who own a different console.
Instead what they should be doing is making compelling new IPs that can appeal the more mature gamer which could intern expand the Nintendo fan base from just being die-hard Nintendo fans and casual newcomers.

im guessing your talking about bayoneta 2 which you clearly have you facts wrong. they didnt pay to just have the game as an exclusive, they paid the developers to actually make the game in the first place which is a big difference as there wouldnt have been a bayoneta 2 if they didnt.
DivineHand125  +   558d ago
I'm not talking about bayoneta 2 since its common knowledge that it wasn't even in development to begin with. what I'm talking about is that I don't want to repeat of what Microsoft has been doing since beginning of this generation by making third party publishers release games and DLC on timed exclusive for their console just to get the edge over the competition instead of investing into 1st party content.

The issue the WiiU is having to fight is relevance. We know Sony and MS are some big guns. There are 2 things nintendo has to do to survive.

1) like you said, they have get some 3rd party support. Without 3rd party support those 3rd party games affect nintendos market like exclusives. Having 3rd party support is defense against MS and Sony.

2) They need to make a super game. They need to make a game that is contempoary and defines them, like MS did with Halo for the XBOX and Gears for the 360, and Uncharted for the Ps3. The game needs to use all the bells and whistles the WiiU has to offer and it should be a new IP. Mario is old and can only take you so far these days same with Zelda and Metroid. Their advantage is that they are out now and have more time to work on something that can out shine MS and Sony at least up til the point that they come out. Like MS did against SOny with Gears. We all knew Ps3 was more powerful but Gears blew anything they had available out at the time. Gamers have very shallow reasoning. If something looks good they dont care about the back story or the rest of reality.

what i find ironic
is nintendo has 3rd party support. They have quite a bit of it in fact. From the numerous indie developers that make wii-ware games to the big companies like EA, Activision, Capcom....

I think what many confuse as a lack of 3rd party support is appeal. Not every game appeals the same to every gamer. This by no means is a sign of lack of support but more of a lack of interest in what is available.

People see the games available on the wii and find there isnt anything that appeals to "them" so they assume its a lack of support. In that case its a matter of taste. Perhaps a gamers taste changes over time.

When I think of 3rd party support i look at it for a consumer point of view.
As an example I like the exclusives that MS offer more than the exclusives by any other console. I also like exclusives by those other companies but MS exclusive just appeal to me more.
I also like 3rd party games like Skyrim, and Fallout Bioshock, Battlefield, Res evil, AC, Batman... If the 360 didnt have those games I would easily go over to Sony. Sure i would be missing the franchises I love but Sonys could easily satisfy me and with those other games there my gaming needs would be fulfilled.

The lie is that each console has its own audience. The real formula is that each console has a library that they build that brings them a particular audience. Any console can pull in any audience if they build a successful bridge to that gaming crowd. Nintendo has just been failing to build that bridge.

Great read. I agree Nintendo should try and get more third party devs to create third party exclusives i rather have that then multiplats tbh

Ahh crap ty man.
Digimortal  +   560d ago
I didn't mean saving in that context. Bad choice of a word on my part. I was just saying that it will greatly help them out in the long run.
ShaunCameron  +   560d ago
Nothing, because the Wii U doesn't need saving from anything. It seems that the real problem is Nintendo doesn't conform to industry rules and found a way to prosper while the industry's bankrupting itself trying to keep up with the PC spec for spec.

i just find it funny how people are saying the Wii U needs to do something to be saved yet i never heard that it was struggling sales wise, i heard that it was selling better then the Wii did on release and all companies end of the day only care about sales.
Digimortal  +   558d ago
I know it doesn't need to be saved at all. I just used the wrong word in my title and also in my blog. What i mean though is that by having 3rd party exclusives under there belt. Not many sites and gamer's out there can really bash on Nintendo from a game standpoint. Which so many people are doing now. Yet they are just games that part of the Launch Window but still. I believe this would be a huge hit for there console.
