User blog

It has become time that we changed everything we know about game reviews. So I need some people who want to do game reviews. ( That Means You )

Well how would it work? Well I'm glad you asked because, I think I have a really cool idea on how this could work. keep reading keep reading I'm getting to it. Keep in mind, we need to review games. (www.N4G.com users) Not someone reviewing the game for a magazine or for work, but someone reviewing because of their love for gaming.

We can actually make quality reviews because we have nothing to gain from our reviews - that way it's like a friend giving you his or her opinion and those usually are the best kind of reviews. An honest personal opinion.

www.N4G.com has some of the best users. Since most of us here are already contributors and approve and disapprove stories all the time here at the site. So we basically already share info with each other all the time. Now all we need to do is share our reviews on games.

So what's the big idea. How about if we get a lot of users together every time a new game comes out like Assassin's Creed, Uncharted Drake's fortune, Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and so on. With Users just submitting their reviews with just the basics and a short statement about the game. For example: -Here's what it would look like, I was thinking something like this -

with the review coming under a Picture, then the whole thing can be submitted as a story. The idea is if I can get enough people willing to give their review then people who visit the site can get an average based off of the reviews submitted. So then if we get like 10 reviewers, you will see a picture like the one below and the user reviews underneath, with the users name and there personal scores.. Then an average for the overall www.N4G.com users review score.

What would make it cool is that it will then be submitted as a story and when some comes to the site and types in the game or game reviews it will pop up and people can get the N4G.com users reviews.

Story 9.5
Gameplay 9.7
Funfactor 9.8
Presentation 9.9
Worth Buying 9.9

Total Score 9.76
Overall Feel A+

Overall Gamers Comment: This game was amazing I loved it and you would be a fool not to buy it, it's worth every penny. If you have a PS3 you should also have this game. Stop reading this and just go buy it already. It's that good.

Above - This was just an example of how one review will look, of course each review will have the users name and follow the same guidelines, giving just a number for each category.

Now if this whole thing just sounds crazy and you don't think it's a good idea then don't blame me, blame it on the fact that I went to bed too early and woke up at 3:00am in the morning thinking I had a bright idea.
Now if you think it's a great idea, maybe even the best thing since slice bread, then don't hold it in let me know in the comments. That's really the only way this thing is going to happen.

I mean if people don't like the idea then I sure as hell won't do it. But if you think it's cool shout it out, or if you want to be a reviewer, put down in the comments - "yeah" and count me in as a reviewer... (you don't have to review everything you can just review the games you have)

So people Let me know what you think, I'll be waiting, and thanks for the feedback either way

P L A Y B 3 Y O N D or JUMP IN 360 - either way, enjoy your gaming...

Dude,
i luv the idea bro. who better to give reviews than the gaming community - us.
i'll be a reviewer.
Skerj  +   2005d ago
I like the idea too but there'd have to be some control in it. Otherwise people without a system or a game could "review" it and totally throw the scores and credibility of the whole process out of the window. And on the opposite side people being overly zealous and throwing a 10/10 out with a Gamespot user-esque review like:

OMGZ this is teh best gaem ever, BEST GAME I EVER PLAID!! 10/10!!1one

If we can come upon the terms of self policing the whole process in a mature manner it's welcome.
Crazyglues  +   2005d ago
@rubarb23 & @Skerj - thanks for the feedback guys. Good point Skerj

I guess the reviewers would have to be people we trust, and you could look at their review and call them on it. - Like what the hell where you thinking when you wrote - OMGZ this is teh best gaem ever, BEST GAME I EVER PLAID!! 10/10!!1one ....LOL

Then if people don't like his reviews - won't use him again. -something like that maybe.

bubbles
Why not use the bubble system. Like ppl with 8+ bubbles can review games.

8 bubbles would not make a person more credible in my opinion. Too many people with multiple accounts and some may give out bubbles as a show of favoritism just because they like the same console and hate another.

Sounds like a plan mate
Definately needs a test before you can help review like the submitting news test.

I wonder what the mart will rate 'killzone 2'!!!!!????
ukilnme  +   2005d ago
This will never work.
I like the idea but there has been to much bias on N4G. There would not be enough objectivity. Too many outspoken and undercover fanboys in my opinion. Don't let others decide for you, do your own review. Just my two cents.
Dusty  +   2005d ago
It is a good idea and that is why
we have alreay made a whole system for user reviews. You will see this and many more new features on N4G when we soon start roling out the now very delayed fall update :)
Crazyglues  +   2005d ago
oh really, that will be cool as hell then
I didn't know you guys where working on that. That will defiantly be sweet.
DiLeCtioN  +   2005d ago
hmm
so can you pm me dusty i wont tell ;). p.s we need a profile page and buddy list. crazyglue not stealing your thunder m8...you really are a true gamer, where do i sign lol. (quick reviews from me)
RadientFlux  +   2005d ago
Personally I don't think it will work... there are too many people with multiple accounts and/or fanboy agendas. Imagine the site being flooded with terrible bias reviews every week. Just so someone can feel better about their purchase.
Lex Luthor  +   2005d ago
This won't work due to too much bias.
Can you imagine shmee reviewing halo 3? ROFLMAO
toughNAME  +   2005d ago
this means
N4G will become the next Sony Defense Force
Wii60PS3DSPSP  +   2005d ago
I can already see the 1/10 score for Halo 3 and 1/10 for Mario Galaxy... Dear god I can already imagine all the low scores for games they hate or high scores just because it's on thier system...
Skerj  +   2005d ago
And Uncharted and Ratchet will get the same low scores from people without a Sony system, sheesh if you're going to bring that up at least be honest about fanboys from ALL sides doing it to each other. I'm fairly sure N4G knows this though and will put some procedures in place to stop this from becoming a travesty.
Crazyglues  +   2005d ago
I think it just comes down to picking good review people, people with both systems and who can judge with out bias..

And if you only have an Xbox 360 then you will only do reviews for your system.

As PS3 only users would only judge PS3 games for other PS3 users to have a good guideline on what games are really good for their system.

I think it can work, and would work well

Crazyglues
I would like to think otherwise but from what I have seen so far on N4G I highly doubt we would have an honest system. Some people will simply say they have a Wii, a PS3 or a 360 just so they can give a trashy review for a game on a system they don't own/support.
TruthbeTold  +   2005d ago
Sure
This would be a great idea if it weren't destined to become a biased, pop-game-miniculture thing. There are MAYBE 4 people here on this site that I would trust to give honest, unbiased reviews that are based on a lot of focused time spent on a game and a pure unemotional analysis. And among those 4, some of them I'd only want reviewing for certain systems since pre-existent hate has no place in reviews either. The last thing we need here at N4G is something to cause more hate and division amongst "cliques". Though if not for the aforementioned problems, this would be a great idea.
fopums  +   2005d ago
to many fanboys on this site, even if there was a honest review nobody would WANT to belive it becuase of this console war BS.

Not saying you shouldnt do it yet...but finding users who dont keep their heads in there asses is quite hard at n4g
d3l33t  +   2004d ago
you need the community to rate your review (1-10), that way the best, most accurate reviews float to the top.
predator  +   2004d ago
ill be willing to write a fair and balanced review, as ive only got a 360 at the moment (ps3 after crimbo) i will only do 360 reviews.

i think this is a great idea and could really grow. also great for the website for people who are not members to see actual gamers reviews of a game. also a bit of publicity for this website to.

So if your looking for people to write fair and balanced reviews for certain consoles then i would love to do it.
Snukadaman  +   2004d ago
good idea crazyglue...
people will belive who the want too belive on low scores for good games anyways...just like review sites....so it dont matter if someone ruins a review with sh1tty scores.
okcomputer  +   2004d ago
Don't most review sites (gamespot, ign etc) already have tons of user reviews already?
Crazyglues  +   2003d ago
yeah, which is even more of a reason why we should have one for the community of NG4.com users.
