I don't understand the obsession with packing in an HDMI cable. Sony provides the proprietary composite cable in the bundle. Why do they need to provide a HDMI cable? Microsoft finally came to this conclusion and removed the HDMI from all of their skus.

The $8 HDMI cable you can buy from monoprice or newegg is much better than the much cheaper HDMI cable a console maker would provide.

So the Euro 'Bundle' that's 'revealed' is ... no bundle at all.

I intend on getting a slim and the only UK retailer to currently tip their hat towards something is HMV, who are offering either Far Cry 2, Quantum Of Solace or Assassins Creed with the console at no extra cost. Not a great choice, but better than nothing at all.

Currently nothing listed from Amazon, Play or Gamestation. I had a wander into Game and the lad behind the counter said they expected them to do something closer to the time, with something in store possibly early next week.

if I were sony I would make an advertisemnet comparing the features of both the 360 and PS3.
360 Elite: $299
PS3: $299
WIFI: 360 - none (additional $99)
PS3 - YES
Online: 360 - $50/year
PS3 - FREE
HDD: 360 - 120gb (no available higher capacity atm)
PS3 - 120gb (upgradeable to any 2.5"HDD)
BLURAY Movie Playback: 360 - NONE
PS3 - YES
etc..

And I know for myself and 3 of my friends who were looking at which Blu-Ray player to buy, spending another £100 to get a next gen console is a no-brainer.

Good touchstone re the MS/Apple battle to as an example.

If you have an edge over an opponent, you take it.
If the opponent sees that as valid, it's their move to make themselves seem *more* competitive, which in turn can only be good for the gamer. Be it price point, exclusives or whatever it may be.

Remember Bluray for the win! All the hot summer movies are gonna be out on bluray by christmas!

You can not watch transformers 2 on bluray on a Xbox 360 or Wii...not even possible.

A PS3 costs 410$ in Europe and that's without tax/VAT... Don't Sony think that's a tad bit overpriced?

A bundled slim costs ¥38,359 in Japan which is equivalent to 400$.

Once again, Sony asks non-Americanos to bend down and pay an extra hundred dollars just to get a PAL (3-pin power cable) PS3 instead of an NTSC (2-pin power cable) PS3.

Why are they talking about Europe when the prices in this article are in Pounds? It would have been better to call this the UK Launch Bundle if there is no direct info for the mainland and Euro.

I think my deal back in November 2008 was a better deal then. I got LittleBigPlanet (launching @ 65 Euro overhere) and Motorstorm 2 (55 Euro when it launched) together with the PS3 for 399 bucks. So actually I paid 279 Euro for the PS3 fat which in my opinion looks better with all the chrome and the touch buttons and Playstation 3 in chrome on top of it, and can install Linux etc etc.
