After picking up Infamous without knowing to expect, i was pleasantly surprised.
Like others, it wasn't a hugely anticipated game for me but once released. I looked into it more and it looked really appealing, i bought it and didn't regret it.
Start with the story, infamous is about Cole, im sure you know, he gets super powers and so on. Even though its just lightning, his powers are still not boring. There is a whole lot more to it, I wont mention any spoilers but the story is surprisingly very good, it does hint to a sequel. The karma system is a little flawed as it rewards you for being only bad and only good, not neutral. This does make you think about your choices which was good. The game actually seems to hint at a sequel but with no DLC you'll have to wait. In short, the story is kick ass, developed characters, memorable antagonist and good twists. One problem is though the story for good and evil are almost identical, the choices have the same outcome in the long run which was disappointing.
Next for sound, not big in the music scene but suffices. The voice acting is surprisingly good, Cole's voice is spot on, others are a bit 'shaky' at times but hardly see a problem. Sound effects of lightning and explosions are great and music plays when in battle which adds to the experience.
Gameplay, the big part here, lucky I can say infamous is not a let down. I would kinda say that its rather similar to a TPS but the gameplay is as expected. Powers grow when game progresses, scaling buildings grinding rails hovering the works, the gameplay elements are all solid, a few hiccups with stickiness of Cole and occasional problem when jumping on to objects you fall straight through but its a small hiccup. All controls are extremely solid, didn't encounter any stupid button placements as I have heard in prototype.
Powers were pretty solid, as you grew more heroic or infamous your powers grew, evil and good powers are different stirring things up a bit. Overall game play does not disappoint.
Other aspects, some good extras, dead drops add story elements to the fans who want to know more, blast shards for the adventurer and many side missions which involve various tasks, the game doesn't feel repetitive. A few graphical issues, pop in issues are noticeable cars sometimes pop in from nowhere, draw distance is in sight, when grinding on rails you can see uneven textures, game doesn't look magnificent but surely does suffice. Few bugs like falling through the floor, jumping through a fence or a pedestrian walking through a car but doesn't take it away from the experience. Once thing I did enjoy was the comic book cut scenes, they add to the comic book hero experiencing and does not take anything away from action scenes. A refreshing story telling device. Trophies are all very achievable, one thing I did wish for was the blast shard trophies to changed to "all shards collected in neon" or Warren and historic rather than 25% on shards, this at least is fair to gamers as i had a hard time finding my last shard, even though they did trophies like that for dead drops. AI is also solid, react to your movements and actions, use cover and generally are smart, sometimes its rewarding.
Overall games exceeded by expectations, even though I got platinum in 6 days, I still play it,I am hoping for a sequel and is recommended to all PS3 owners, they should take advantage of the game only they get. Infamous is a great addition to the PS3 exclusive library.
