Wal-mart employee leaks secret PS3+ Blu-ray movies sale

On 11/24 at 8:00am (running through 11:59pm on 11/25), the 80GB PS3 ($499) will come with 10 FREE Blu-ray movies instantly. You choose any 10 BD titles under $30 within the store and they will override the prices to zero. For those stores that carry BD already, additional titles are being sent in for the sale. For those that do not have BD in their store (a small minority) product will be sent to each store specifically for this sale.

Oh, and you still get your 5 FREE movies by mail.

People always said that when HD DVD did something like this that it was desperation...so whats up? Both sides are trying to win, so next time HD DVD does something, dont say its desperation, because blu ray is now giving away 15 free movies.

BTW, from the looks of it at the end of this war well be getting 5 dollar high def movies, no matter who wins.

I don't have an hdtv so I'm basically one of those statistics the hddvd group love to herald with 0 attach rate... BUT futureshop in canada have crazy buy 1 get 1 free blu ray with over 50 selections, plus disney 2 for 1 blu ray for last week...

Even without an hdtv, my attachment is now 8 blurays!

I'm pretty neutral for the format war, but IT ROCKS SO FAR hehe

I've witnessed Wal-marts blu-ray movie section. I don't think I could even pick 10 out. I'd have to decline no less than all of them and ask for the blu-rays in trade on another item or items. Sorry. Good deal, though... in theory.

My Walmart kind of has a Blu-ray stand. It's about 3 ft. wide....yeah. Circuit City and Best Buy have MUCH better selections. If they have the sale, cool. But from what I've seen it would only take 2 or 3 PS3 sales to sell out the Blu-ray titles from my local Walmart store.

Until Today. it's pretty small and where they placed it, it's hard for people to take notice of it [because it's not in the movie section but near the game section] O.o

With selection of blu-ray title there, I would only select a few unless they plan to stock it more with movies. but right now? 5 movies max.

The only deal they had in the UK was for the first 500,000 to regiester their PS3 got Casino Royal, and I didn't even qualify for that deal.

*sigh* It would be so much greater if you could pick 5 games instead. Not that I don't enjoy movies but if I'm buying a PS3, its for games, not movies. I'm not saying its a bad deal, quite the opposite in fact. It's a great deal, but I wish the PS3 in general would stop trying to sell BR. If I wanted a player I would buy a player, not a player/gaming machine. But I suppose the fact that the best BR player right now is the PS3 does complicate things. Wonder how that makes the other BR players feel?

No I'm quite aware of why they did it. But it doesn't change the fact that I want games with my gaming machine not movies.

Taking into account the so far 3 disagrees I have gotten I can safely assume people or rather fanboys are siding with the movies. Which to me is just a bit odd since this is a gaming site.

So this begs the question, why the hell would you want movies instead of games. I can fully understand people loves of movies, hell I love them too. But to come to a gaming site and want 300, Fifth Element, and so on with your nifty brand new PS3 over say Ratchet and Clack, Heavenly Sword, Resistance, Warhawk, and Uncharted is just the epitome of idiocy. But I will none the less get another 4 or 5 disagrees so I'm not sure why I bother trying to exampling these kind of things.

First off - fantastic deal but really, I would much prefer 2 or 3 bundled games. It is a games console after all....isn't it???

Sony need to fix their identity crises. The PS3 is a powerhouse of a console being sold under the guise of being a cheap Blu-Ray player. The latest ads showing in New Zealand do nothing to fix this either. Some homosexual magician stuffing a dog into an oversized washing machine only for it to emerge into an ugly, puffy poodle. Then comes up the message of how blu-ray makes everything clearer. Not one word about the games?!?

However, in saying all this...if this deal was available in New Zealand with the 40GB PS3, I would probably get it. However, its not available in New Zealand...again....

Wow, I got mine at launch for £425 with Casino Royale for free & thats it!

You get such good deals in the US, there are no blu-ray or hd-dvd deals (that I know of) in the UK. No free movies or buy one get one free of amazon uk. Some actually cost £25 ($50) in HMV.

I'm a huge Sony fan and an even bigger blu-ray supporter but some of you Sony fanboys here make "Even" me look bad. Wal mart is not the go to center for blu-ray, I'm sorry. It's just not. Disagree all you want nad take bubles away and all that.. but if you're looking for good new out of this for Sony and the ps3... Well, go ahead. The best bit of news here is that Wal-mart is actually pushing ps3's over hd-dvd. That's about it. Until Wal-mart gets more than 20 movies in on blu-ray, they're still not a viable source for an outlet.

my local walmart actually has a pretty decent selection (and cheaper) though, it's not the selection i'd get at best buy or futureshop, but it isn't a bad selection... i'm sure i could pick out 10 easy at my walmart, guess stocked merchandise varies from store to store.

i look at my walmart selection before going elsewhere cause it's cheaper and it's where i buy my UMD's

Almost makes me wish I had waited to buy my 60GB PS3 for $500.00 But backwards compatability and the card ports were important to me at the time. It's been almost 5 months since I sent in my Blu-Ray registration form and I still heven't recieved my 5 free Blu-Ray movies. Has anybody else had any problems with this? Does anybody know who I can contact about this matter? I have a friend who offered to buy these movies from me for $50.00 Thank you.

This is true or not it seems like a lot of money to lose around 200-300 bucks(blue ray at around 20 to 30 bucks a pop and 10 of them). I'll soon find out though when I got to work in 2 hours and see if it did drop today cause it wasnt on our sale sheet yesterday. Usually during this time walmart sells there sale items at the price of what walmart buys them from the manufacture thats how they sell those items for cheap. Walmart makes it money on that day by people buying the non sale items(people just seem to go crazy and buy alsorts on that day sale or no sale lol). This deal seems to give to much money away on each item, but who knows I could be wrong lol I hope im wrong cause this is one of the best deals ever.

25 - the idea is to kill hd-dvd once and for all if this is true.

i'd bet it also means stand alones will have secret deals too besides ps3.doesn't matter that some of you want games.BUY games if you WANT games.pressing discs for movies is different.they already made their money at the box office.selling bluray discs is just to get that money from you AGAIN besides that movie ticket.

also,some of the games being prduced have not yet made a profit yet to give it away.only big titles like motorstorm and resistance have brought home the bacon.eventually more bundles with games will happen when they do get those profits.

sony and toshiba are good allies on other things,but this is war.the bluray group want to win.decisively and permanently so that there is no question.adding this deal to ps3 just gets more bluray players on the market sooner.won't matter if hd-dvd players are cheap.....
