Confirmed: Lair can be played on PSP (Video Included)

No, this is not a joke. Lair can be played on PSP through PS3's Remote Play functionality. As discovered by Dubbedinenglish on the PlayStation forums, this is quite possibly the first Blu-ray PS3 game to run successfully on the PSP. By reducing the visual quality and increasing the response time, the game is actually quite playable. In fact, because the game uses the PSP's analog stick instead of tilt controls, it actually controls better than the PS3 counterpart.

ed./ Jsin - do you believe this is possibly a scam? Man I hope not. This is what I was hoping RP could do all along. When I go on biz trips I could just leave my PS3 on at home and play the games that are compatible -- when I'm done playing just kick on F@H. How cool would that be? I know that there are some limitations involved, but the sheer capability adds a whole new dimension to the PS3 and the games for it. So cool.

And this is actually something Sony should advertise big time with upcoming releases. As far as Lair goes, it's a darn shame that it controls better with the PSP's fake analog thingy then the actual PS3 version with those sixaxis controls. BTW, will we ever see someone use sixaxis controlls in a fun yet integral way?

I like Folklore's sixaxis controls. They're not completely integral though. Same thing with Heavenly Sword's. Seems they only have the left/right/up/down part down pretty good. Too bad there's no (good) 3-dimensional movements yet.

If true then this just confirms that the next PSP(2) will be able to do this for sure without any major sacrifices. I'm a bit skeptical of this vid because you can always record your PS3 game play, convert the video and play it on your PSP. I will try this myself when I rent the game.

6 - Some ppl are confused

This is real and the PSP of course cannot compute all that data, the only thing that it is outputting is the button commands to the PS3, the PS3 does all the processing and outputs the graphics to the PSP only.

All the PSP doing is displaying the graphics and outputting the command, that's why this is possible, i am still amuse at how fast the PSP can grab those high res video graphics and not hitch up.

Can anyone try this on a Wifi Hotspot (other than their own home) and let me know if its laggy.

Highly doubt you would be able to play this from outside your house (atleast very well)

You would have a beter chance if you had DSL instead of cable due to its higher upload rate. If you were trying to play outside of your house the signal would have to go through alot more systems increasing the delay between your ps3 and your psp by alot.

Im pretty sure the codec they use wouldnt work so well UDP style so the psp wll constantly have to be confiming that the packets are bieng recieved, wich will increase the buffer time and make the delay betweenbutton press and responce really noticable.

Be intrested to see the actual results though.

playing right now as i type on my original psp model. freakin nice. so far i cant get the dash to work nor lock ons. anyone figure this out? i cant slow my flight either.....(usually the left2 or right2 shoulder buttons)

but i can't get the dragon to dash or do a 180, as those are sixaxis commands. the lock on gives me no problems, as those are L1 and L2 commands.

i find all the doubters humorous.

i mean, why would *WE lie about something like this?

to me, it's just not worth lying about.

i'm looking forward to seeing what Sony does with this in the future.

i have a feeling that Factor 5 left this in the code, because they knew some savvy gamer would find it. now everybody is trying it, and they can gauge the reaction of us actual gamers, to decided if it's something they (Factor 5 or Sony) want to pursue in the future.

honestly, imagine if a visually amazing PS3 game (say, Unreal Tournament or Ratchet and Clank Future), were playable on the PSP via remote play?

sales of the PSP, PS3, and the game would probably sky-rocket, if anything for people to see this at work for itself.

i was very impressed with the visual quality of Lair on the PSP screen, especially as i knew it was, basically, a video signal from my PS3, being transmitted to my PSP, and my button commands were being transmitted from the PSP, to the PS3.

there was some pixelization, but overall, it was impressive.

as if i didn't have *ENOUGH reasons to love my PSP and PS3, this remote play thing was something i had been thinking about since it was first announced, and there's already something using the technology, even if it's not 100% perfect.

Especially those PSN games. I love Super Stardust HD and wouldn't mind playing it on my PSP. I will be purchasing Super Street Fighter II HD remix so lets hope this secret remote play feature gets embraced.

This feature has encouraged me into looking into buying this game.

Although, I plan to rent it first, to see if I can get used to the controls, and if I can and I do enjoy it, I will buy it.

One question for anyone who might have this:
Does this look good on a SDTV? (does it scale to fit the 4:3 AR?) Because games like the darkness don't scale good to SDTV (they remain 16:9) and ultimately become unreadable (in terms of text) and some of the sides usually get cut off. It drives me crazy that a developer will not even take the time to set it up for 4:3 TVs. The sad part is, every first party game I have, does scale nicely... (Resistance, Motorstorm, etc.)

Maybe Gran Turismo Mobile has been scrapped.....because Sony is going to allow you to play GT5 via remote play anyway!!!!! Gran Turismo only needs a few buttons so it could easily do it.

If that happens expect PSP and PS3's sales to go through the roof!!!!

Nice!! Will have to try this out after work. Just picked up my copy of Lair and have been trying to get over the learning curve. It would of kicked a$$ if SONY gave the option to turn off the SIXAXIS and allow players to use the analog sticks, but who know's the more they tweak the SIXAXIS the better and more immersed the game play could be. So far I'm too impressed with LAIR, only the first 4 stages down and I found myself falling asleep while cruising around on my dragon trying to nail down the controls. I suppose it will take some getting use to. Maybe the PSP/PS3 game play will increase my desire to beat the game.. Who knows.... Good story..

I hope it comes to light. As much as attaching the PS3 controller to the PSP would be cool. They should make a cord(optional) long enough so it can be used like it would on the PS3 with sixaxis movement and all. While the PSP just sits on a stand of some kind. That way you'll be able to use the sixaxis movement without moving the screen.

I'm guessing Sony is allowing developers to voluntarily program for Remote Play - as the PSP doesn't have all the funcitions of a Ps3 controller.

Other games are likely to follow.

But I'm hoping that Sony develops a new PsP that has all the capabilities of the Ps3 controller. Then I'll buy a PsP for sure.

Ps. I wish they had chosen a better game. Damn, Warhawk would have been so sweet playing in bed with my Ps3 purring away in the Lounge.
