Tekken 6 - 2 PS3 vs 360 comparison galleries (Blur mode on vs Blur mode off)

Gameswire has uploaded two Tekken 6 screenshot comparison galleries, comparing the PS3 and 360 versions in the Blur mode on and Blur mode off settings.

The reason being that different techniques are used in the off setting, with the PS3 version using anti-aliasing and the Xbox 360 version using a higher internal resolution downsampled to mimic anti-aliasing effects.

So which versions is better? And in which mode? The result might not be quite what you're expecting...

Nice. Good job at getting the exact same shots on this one.

So, PS3 version slightly better then.

Looks exactly the same, except for the colours. The PS3 version seems to have deeper colours, both versions seem jaggy as hell though.

They look almost exactly the same. Maybe the PS3 version looks a little bit better, but overall it should be great on both consoles.

I haven't been impressed with a Tekken game on console since Tekken 3 on PSX.

Still not impressed.

1.7 - The PS3 version has more nuanced lighting and shadows.
The 360 version doesnt have as many smooth transitions between light and dark and less definition in shadowed and lit areas. This could be for a number of reasons including the way the images were captured.

Either way it's an extremely ugly game and should not be taken as a reflection of either machine's capabilties.

Isn't that weird?

- The article states that the 360 renders at 768p, then scales this output BACK to 720p, but without AA
- The article states that the ps3 renders at 576p, but with AA.
- The author then (subjectively) states that 576p (with AA) looks better than 768p (without AA).

Personally, I can't tell the difference, graphically, however loading times are much worse on ps3, as shown in the recent LOT article:
http://www.lensoftruth.com/... but this is beside the issue at hand.

I am just reminded that this phenomenon of reduced resolution, is exactly what happened to Halo3, which was reduced from 720p to 640p to accommodate visual effects like HDR lighting and other visual game enhancing features.

At the time, fanboys jumped on the 'sub-HD' Halo3 resolution bandwagon with derision and negativity, even though the net effect was to arguably improve the game.

It's weird that the same derisive fanboys are not jumping on exactly the same situation for ps3 tekken6, which is being forced to run at a lower resolution to include AA.

They look the same but the ps3 version wins because the controller its better for this type of game.
I have both ps3 and xbox360 and i have trouble to chose the version i like to buy but i finally chose the xbox360 only because i have much more friends in live than psn.

PS3 really isn't all that much more powerful than Xbox 360, it still has to squeeze everything into 256MB of system memory. And anyway multiplatform games usually have a uniform set of specs to measure up to, and whatever can't work out on one version will be culled.

edit: XDR world's fastest? incorrect, Xenos' 10MB eDRAM "intelligent memory" provides 10x the bandwidth.

And um, RSX's 256MB is dedicated to RSX. Developer's can't bypass FlexIO to get to RSX's memory, CellBE is tied to its memory.

PS3: 256MB XDR + 256 MB GDDR3
Xbox 360: 512MB GDDR3 + 10MB eDRAM

No
PS3 = 256 DDR3 + 256 XDR (World fastest memory)
360 = Unified 512 DDR3

Also, did you ever see UC2 / KZ2 / GT5 / Heav Rain /GoW 3 / MGS4-like graphic? No!
did you ever see a game that wasn't limited to 9GB due to outdated DVD format? No!

So..
gtamike123 post is correct...

edit:

You stupid

Cell CAN use RSX's DDR3 Memory and RSX CAN use Cell's XDR Memory

Dude you have to remember that the PS3-Cynicists like Wakka don't have the kind of parents who grant them a 5-week advance on their allowance to purchase a Playstation 3. So they'll naturally degrade what they can't indulge.

@ Wakka: BTW, Wakka was probably the most annoying character in FFX. If you want to be recognized, take the avatar and account name of a cool FFX character like Auron or Kimarhri (however the hell you spell it!!!)

No dude, that's wrong.
Even when you install the game to the PS3 HDD, it still runs slower than the game running straight off the disc on the 360.

As a ps3 owner and fan, I was extremely disappointed to hear this.

5.7 - I don't know why you would be disappointed.
We're talking mere seconds difference. If they had just made the install mandatory, the difference wouldn't even be worth noting. Just install it on your harddrive.

We know why the PS3 version loads slower, because it's a better version with higher bitrate. Eurogamer pointed out that the 360 version of the game had far less bandwidth on the DVD for video compared to the PS3 version which hampered load times due to better quality. Not only did the 360 version receive lower quality visuals (according to Eurogamer) but also the framerate on the PS3 was upped to 60 fps versus the 360's 30 fps on all the video.

So the PS3 version looks better, video is higher quality, controller is better suited and at the cost of a harddrive install and at the worst 1.7 seconds difference in load times according to LOT?

This is just nitpicking, in my opinion.

Darkride66.

1. You have stated you are not cyber-stalking my posts, yet here you are, evidently cyber-stalking my posts!

2. You misquoted (Eurogamer) again when you said:
"...also the framerate on the PS3 was upped to 60 fps versus the 360's 30 fps on ALL the video."

Eurogamer actually said:
"on SOME of the videos (for example the Tekken timeline recap at the beginning of Scenario Mode), frame-rate has been upped from 30FPS on 360 up to 60FPS on PS3."

I have asked you to stop lying
I have asked you to stop misquoting
I have asked you to pay attention to detail, so I need not correct you constantly.
I have also asked you to stop cyber-stalking me.

yet, you seem incapable of doing this.
what is going wrong, darkride66?
... Did I upset you?
... is this theme a recurring pattern in your life?

I can help you, if you like, with these somewhat obsessive issues you are exhibiting.

5.9 - Wow. You're anal.
Sorry. The PS3 is 60fps SOME OF THE TIME, while the 360 is 30fps ALL OF THE TIME.

That distinction doesn't do a thing to my point. And you never even addressed the fact that we're talking about a mere 1.7 seconds difference here. In fact, you can install the 6.7 gb 360 version to the hard disk and it doesn't improve anything, at all.

Figures that again you'd try to twist the meaning of what I said to make it something it's not. My point is still valid and still stands despite your repeated attempts at name-calling and slander. Keep it up, Mr. Dam.

Answer me this, how does your anal attention to detail do anything to refute my point? From now on, should I only quote an article if I cut and past the quote? Oh wait, I've done that in the past and provided links and you've still accused me of lying because of something the same articles says later on.

I have no issue with you pointing out when you see a discrepancy in my statement. I'm only human. However I would ask you to remain civil in these forums. Need I pull out your laundry list of offences in the past again? Mr. "100% of PS3 multiplats are gimped"?

Edit: I've reported you to the mods for your continued harassment. There's a difference between disagreeing with a member and the harassment and continued name calling you're engaged in.

The only thing different is the brightness setting. This is the second Japanese fighter ported from the PS3 to 360 with no problem. May be dev's should port from PS3 to 360. If we see a significant graphical downgrade for the Arcade version, everyone will obviously know the reason...(The Arcade version is supposed to use the PS3's specs)

Anyways this game is technically older than SFIV, that's why it doesn't look spectacular as supposed to be...
